Overview
Bottom rule

IBM CICS Transaction Gateway (CICS TG) V9.2 enables simple and rapid mobile integration of an enterprise's CICS Transaction Server (CICS TS) family or TXSeries® environment. A client's existing, proven, architecture can be built on quickly to provide mobile connectivity to back-end systems by using JavaScript™ Object Notation (JSON) web services. CICS TG V9.2 enables continuous integration testing for JSON web services and all remote CICS TG applications. The new CICS Intercept plug-in allows for selective connections to live CICS servers, or virtualized responses, when deploying a Gateway daemon to a client's platform of choice.

Mobile enablement with CICS TG V9.2 uses data transformations technology to deliver JSON web services that are common to IBM z/OS Connect V1, z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition V2, and CICS TS V5, and can be achieved alongside traditional CICS TG workloads without modification to existing environments. This minimizes both risk and cost, while it retains the benefits of the proven, high availability, and scalability of CICS TG.

Other functionality that is introduced in CICS TG V9.2 includes:

  • Enhancements to CICS TG request monitoring to augment full access to channel and container payload data for monitoring tools. This includes container metadata.
  • Fundamental improvements to the Gateway thread model. This provides an improvement to response times, especially for remote client applications, by using secure connections where many hundreds of remote client applications typically connect simultaneously.
  • Support for the 64-bit version of the IBM SDK for z/OS, Java Technology Edition, V8, which benefits from enhancements that exploit IBM zEnterprise® EC12 (zEC12) and IBM zEnterprise BC12 (zBC12) instructions, and also new capabilities that are made available with the z/OS V2.2 operating system.
  • Support for 32-bit version of the IBM Runtime Environment; Java Technology Edition, Version 8 Release 0 on AIX; Linux, Microsoft Windows; , and HP-UX operating systems. Description
Bottom rule

CICS TG V9.2 enables continuous integration testing for JSON web services and all types of remote CICS TG applications.

CICS TG, the premier IBM enterprise connector suite, is production proven for over 1000 clients as a high-performing, security-rich, and scalable method of service-oriented architecture (SOA) access to CICS family and TXSeries products. CICS TG provides the following capabilities:

  • Delivers access to CICS applications for multiple types of client application, while requiring minimal changes to CICS and usually no changes to existing CICS applications.
  • Provides quick and easy connector access to CICS applications from a wide variety of environments, which includes JSON web services, Java, JEE (JCA), C/C++, Microsoft .NET Framework-based applications, and COBOL runtimes.
  • Enables the rapid deployment of CICS applications as fully scalable services in an enterprise-wide SOA.
  • Allows the reuse of existing CICS applications as services in comprehensive and sophisticated JEE, and web services solutions hosted on powerful application servers, such as WebSphere® Application Server.
  • Allows CICS applications to be integrated with cloud-based infrastructure, through products such as IBM PureApplication® System (IBM Web Application pattern).

CICS TG products run on z/OS, Microsoft Windows, UNIX™, and Linux operating systems. They provide connectivity to CICS for JEE-certified application servers, and also allow a wide range of application platforms to integrate with CICS. This includes JSON web services, Java applications, servlets, applets, Microsoft .NET Framework-based applications, C, and COBOL applications.

CICS TG supports common programming frameworks to allow a wide variety of application platforms to integrate securely with CICS. The Java Enterprise Edition Connector Architecture (JCA) provides the highest qualities of service (connection pooling and transaction management) for applications deployed to a JEE application server, such as WebSphere Application Server. Furthermore, the CICS TG API for Microsoft .NET Framework-based applications, C, COBOL, and Java applications allows Microsoft Windows, UNIX, and Linux platforms to exploit the robust and scalable connectivity available through CICS TG.

In addition to CICS TG for z/OS and CICS TG for Multiplatforms, CICS TG Desktop Edition delivers low-cost, desktop connectivity for CICS for Microsoft Windows, Linux, and UNIX operating systems. CICS TG Desktop Edition provides access from a single-user workstation to the tried and trusted transactional capabilities of the entire family of CICS servers.

CICS TG, V9.2 delivers enhancements in the following areas:

  • The new CICS Intercept plug-in allows selective pass through to live CICS servers, or virtualized responses, when deploying a Gateway daemon to a client's platform of choice. This offering also enables continuous integration testing for JSON web services and all remote CICS TG applications.
  • By enabling virtualized responses, it is possible to build a continuous integration test suite using the support for CICS TG included in Rational Test Workbench, or a bespoke CICS Intercept plug-in. This allows application developers to fail fast earlier in the development and test cycle, and before promoting new code to higher level quality assurance systems.

Foundation

CICS TG V9.2 delivers significant improvements in response time, from the perspective of a remote client application that establishes a secure (TLS) connection, when many such remote clients simultaneously establish secure connections, or a large connection pool is established. This can be of assistance in start-of-business scenarios, or when entire connection pools are cycled for a planned or unplanned outage.

CICS TG V9.2 provides support for Microsoft Windows 10, both as a supported operating system for the Multiplatforms and Desktop Edition products, and as a platform for application deployment. For Microsoft Windows application developers, support for Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 compilers is also included.

Request monitoring is enhanced to provide access to character encoding information (CCSID) for channels and individual containers of type "CHAR". Access to this request meta-data enables meaningful interpretation of request-level monitoring data, especially when application requests exploit a range of character encodings.

CICS TG for z/OS, V9.2 requires z/OS V1.13 (5694-A01) with APAR OA38409 or z/OS V2.1, or later, and works with the 64-bit version of the IBM SDK for z/OS, Java Technology Edition, Version 8 Release 0. CICS TG for z/OS, V9.2, automatically benefits from this level of the IBM SDK for z/OS, which offers:

  • A comprehensive Java SDK at the SE 8 level for the z/OS platform.
  • Enhancements to z/OS Java unique security and JZOS functionality.
  • Exploitation of new capabilities available with z/OS V2.1 and V2.2. For more information on z/OS V2.2, refer to Software Announcement 215-006, dated January 14, 2015.
  • Exploitation of new capabilities delivered by IBM z13™. For more information on IBM z13, refer to Hardware Announcement 115-001, dated January 14, 2015.
  • Exploitation of capabilities that are delivered by zEC12 and zBC12.
  • Improved performance using the Data Access Accelerator API for processing native data records and types directly from Java code.
  • Enhanced monitoring and diagnostics.
  • JZOS and z/OS unique security enhancements of previous z/OS Java SDK products.

CICS TG for Multiplatforms, V9.2, and CICS TG Desktop Edition, V9.2, include the IBM Runtime Environment, Java Technology Edition, Version 8 Release 0 for AIX, Linux, Microsoft Windows, and HP-UX operating systems. This release of Java benefits from fundamental improvements to the JVM and JIT compiler, and exploits the capabilities of new POWER 8 hardware with AIX and Linux operating systems. For details, go to the IBM SDK, Java Technology Edition, Version 8 web page.

CICS TG SDK

The SDK for CICS TG contains all of the CICS TG JARs, RARs, shared libraries, headers, libs, and schemas required to write, compile, and ship a CICS TG application for any edition of CICS TG V9.2. To ensure that the latest release of the SDK is always readily available, it is only available online at the IBM developerWorks CICSdev page.

CICS Explorer

CICS Explorer, the strategic management interface for CICS TS, is upgraded to CICS Explorer V5.3. This is a major update to support the latest CICS TS and CICS Tools capabilities.

The CICS TG plug-in for CICS Explorer is updated to support CICS Explorer V5.3 and IBM Explorer for z/OS, V3.0 Aqua.

Value Unit-based pricing

Value Unit pricing for eligible IBM z Systems™ IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) programs enables a lower cost of incremental growth and enterprise aggregation. Each z Systems IPLA product with Value Unit pricing has a single price per Value Unit and a conversion matrix, called Value Unit Exhibit, for converting from some designated measurement to Value Units. Most commonly, Millions of Service Units (MSUs) is the measurement designated by IBM to be converted to Value Units. Some other measurements are engines or messages. Since MSUs are the most common measurement, that measurement will be used for the remainder of this description.

Value Unit pricing offers price benefits for you. For each z Systems IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Each of the various Value Unit Exhibits stipulate that the larger your required license capacity, the fewer Value Units per MSU you will need. Value Unit Exhibits are uniquely identified by a three digit code and referred to using the nomenclature VUExxx, where xxx is the three digit code.

Subsequent acquisitions of Value Unit priced programs offer additional price benefits. The quantity of each z Systems IPLA program that you have acquired is referred to as entitled license capacity. If you wish to grow your entitled license capacity for a z Systems IPLA program, the calculation to determine additional needed Value Units is based upon the number of Value Units already acquired.

For each z Systems IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, you should:

  • Determine the required license capacity, in MSUs.
  • Aggregate the MSUs across the enterprise.
  • Convert the total MSUs to Value Units, using the applicable Value Unit Exhibit.
  • Multiply the price per Value Unit by the total number of Value Units to determine the total cost.

To simplify conversion from the designated measurement to Value Units or vice-versa, use the Value Unit Converter Tool. For additional information or to obtain a copy of the Value Unit Converter Tool, visit the Value Unit Converter Tool, go to the IBM z Systems Software Pricing website.

Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with Value Units of another product.

To determine the required license capacity for the z Systems IPLA program you selected, refer to the Terms and conditions section.

The following program in this announcement has Value Unit-based pricing.

Program number Program name Value Unit Exhibit
5655-Y20 CICS TG for z/OS V9.2 VUE007

For each z Systems IPLA program with Value Unit pricing, the quantity of that program needed to satisfy applicable IBM terms and conditions is referred to as the required license capacity. Your required license capacity is based upon the following factors:

  • The z Systems IPLA program you select
  • The applicable Value Unit Exhibit
  • The applicable terms
  • Whether your current mainframes are full capacity or sub-capacity

Value Unit exhibit VUE007

MSUs minimum MSUs maximum Value Units/MSU
Base 1 3 1
Tier A 4 45 0.45
Tier B 46 175 0.36
Tier C 176 315 0.27
Tier D 316 + 0.20

Ordering example

The total number of Value Units is calculated according to the following example.

If your required license capacity is 1,500 MSUs for your selected z Systems IPLA product, the applicable Value Units would be:

Tier MSUs Multiplied by Value Units per MSU Equal Value Units
Base 3 1.00 3.00
Tier A 42 .45 18.90
Tier B 130 .36 46.80
Tier C 140 .27 37.80
Tier D 1,185 .20 237.00
Total 1,500   343.50

When calculating the total number of Value Units, the sum is to be rounded up to the next integer.

Authorized User

Authorized User is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An Authorized User is a unique person who is given access to the program. The program may be installed on any number of computers or servers and each Authorized User may have simultaneous access to any number of instances of the program at one time. Licensee must obtain separate, dedicated entitlements for each Authorized User given access to the program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, through a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means. An entitlement for an Authorized User is unique to that Authorized User and may not be shared, nor may it be reassigned other than for the permanent transfer of the Authorized User entitlement to another person.

Note: Some programs may be licensed where devices are considered users. In that case, the following applies. Any computing device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from the program or that is otherwise managed by the program is considered a separate user of the program and requires an entitlement as if that device were a person.

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at the website below) and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip (socket). A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores. The PVU table can be found > on the PVU licensing for Distributed Software page. Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage® Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms found on the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules page. If using full capacity licensing, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using virtualization capacity licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules that can be found on the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules page.

* An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Notes

  • Some programs may require licenses for the program and what is being managed. In that case, the following applies. In addition to the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only. In that case, the following applies. Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • A few programs on an exception basis may be licensed on a referenced basis. In that case, the following applies. Rather than obtaining entitlements for the activated processor cores available to the program, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the environment made available to the referenced program as if the program itself were executing everywhere the referenced program was executing, independent of the basis on which the referenced program is licensed.

Subscription and Support: CICS TG for z/OS

To receive voice technical support via telephone and future releases and versions at no additional charge, Subscription and Support must be ordered. The capacity of Subscription and Support (Value Units) must be the same as the capacity ordered for the product licenses.

To order, specify the Subscription and Support program number (PID) referenced above and the appropriate license or charge option.

IBM is also providing Subscription and Support for these products via a separately purchased offering under the terms of the IBM International Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance. This offering:

  • Includes and extends the support services provided in the base support to include technical support via telephone.
  • Entitles you to future releases and versions, at no additional charge. Note that you are not entitled to new products.

When Subscription and Support is ordered, the charges will automatically renew annually unless cancelled by you.

The combined effect of the IPLA license and the Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance gives you rights and support services comparable to those under the traditional ICA S/390® and z Systems license or its equivalent. To ensure that you continue to enjoy the level of support you are used to in the ICA business model, you must order both the license for the program and the support for the selected programs at the same Value Unit quantities.

Processor Value Unit (PVU) sub-capacity licensing

This software product is eligible for sub-capacity licensing. Customers must accept the terms of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement Attachment for Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (Attachment), and must obtain PVU Proofs of Entitlement (PoEs) for the maximum processor core capacity available to an eligible sub-capacity product when deployed in an eligible virtualization environment. This is also referred to as sub-capacity or virtualization capacity licensing.

Customers must use the IBM License Metric Tool unless they meet the exceptions described in the Attachment.

For information regarding PVU sub-capacity licensing, including terms and IBM License Metric Tool ordering information, go to the Passport Advantage Virtualization Capacity (Sub-capacity) Licensing website.

Customized Offerings

Product deliverables are shipped only through CBPDO and ServerPac. These customized offerings are offered for Internet delivery in countries where Shopz product ordering is available. Internet delivery reduces software delivery time and allows you to install software without the need to handle tapes. For more details on Internet delivery, go to the Help section on the Shopz website.

You choose the delivery method when you order the software. IBM recommends Internet delivery. In addition to Internet and DVD, the supported tape delivery options include:

  • 3590
  • 3592

Most products can be ordered in ServerPac the month following their availability in CBPDO. z/OS can be ordered through CBPDO and ServerPac at general availability. Many products will also be orderable in a Product ServerPac without also having to order the z/OS operating system or subsystem.

Shopz and CFSW will determine the eligibility based on product requisite checking. For more details on the product ServerPac, go to the Help section on the Shopz website.

For additional information about the Product ServerPac option, refer to Software Announcement 212-272, dated July 31, 2012.

Production of software product orders will begin on the planned general availability date.

  • CBPDO shipments will begin one week after general availability.
  • ServerPac shipments will begin two weeks after general availability.

For more information on the Value Unit Exhibit for the z Systems IPLA program you selected, refer to the Ordering information section.

Program number Program name Terms Parent, if applicable
5655-Y20 CICS TG for z/OS V9.2 Reference-based 5655-S97
      5655-Y04

Full-capacity mainframes

In cases where full capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.

Execution-based, z/OS-based, full-machine-based: The required capacity of a z Systems IPLA program with these terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where the z Systems IPLA program executes.

For more information on mainframe MSU-rated capacities, visit the IBM z Systems software pricing website.

Reference-based: The required license capacity of a z Systems IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Sub-capacity mainframes

In cases where sub-capacity is applicable, the following terms apply.

Execution-based: The required capacity of a z Systems IPLA sub-capacity program with these terms equals the capacity of the LPARs where the z Systems IPLA program executes.

z/OS-based: The required license capacity of a z Systems IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of z/OS on the machines where the z Systems IPLA program executes.

Reference-based: The required license capacity of a z Systems IPLA program with these terms equals the license capacity of the applicable monthly license charge (MLC) program. This MLC program is called the parent program.

Full machine based: The required license capacity of a z Systems IPLA program with full machine based terms equals the MSU-rated capacity of the machines where the z Systems IPLA program executes.

For more information on mainframe MSU-rated capacities, refer to The IBM z Systems Machines Exhibit, (Z125-3901), or visit the Mainframes section of the z Systems Exhibits website.

For additional information for products with reference-based terms, z Systems IPLA sub-capacity programs with reference-based terms adds value to the parent program across the environment, regardless of where in the environment the z Systems IPLA program executes.

An environment is defined as either a single or stand-alone machine or a qualified Parallel Sysplex®. You may have one or more different environments across the enterprise. To determine the required license capacity for each z Systems IPLA program with referenced-based terms, each environment should be assessed separately.

When a z Systems IPLA sub-capacity program with reference-based terms is used in a qualified Parallel Sysplex environment, the required license capacity of the z Systems IPLA program must equal with the license capacity of the parent program across the Parallel Sysplex. Qualified Parallel Sysplex refers to one where MLC pricing is aggregated across the sysplex.

Sub-capacity eligibility

To be eligible for sub-capacity charging on select z Systems IPLA programs, you must first implement and comply with all terms of either sub-capacity Workload License Charges (WLC) or sub-capacity Entry Workload License Charges (EWLC). To implement sub-capacity WLC or EWLC, a machine must be z Systems (or equivalent). On that machine:

  • All instances of the OS/390® operating system must be migrated to the z/OS operating systems.
  • Any licenses for the OS/390 operating system must be discontinued.
  • All instances of the z/OS operating systems must be running in z/Architecture® (64-bit) mode.

For that machine, you must create and submit a Sub-Capacity Report to IBM each month. Sub-Capacity Reports must be generated using the Sub-Capacity Reporting Tool (SCRT). For additional information or to obtain a copy of SCRT, visit the z Systems Software Pricing website.

You must comply with all of the terms of the WLC or EWLC offering, whichever is applicable:

  • The complete terms and conditions of sub-capacity WLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for z Systems Workload License Charges (Z125-6516).
  • The complete terms and conditions for sub-capacity EWLC are defined in the IBM Customer Agreement - Attachment for IBM z Systems 890 and 800 License Charges (Z125-6587).

Additionally, you must sign and comply with the terms and conditions specified in the amendment to the IPLA contract - Amendment for IBM System z9® and z Systems Programs Sub-Capacity Pricing (Z125-6929). Once the amendment is signed, the terms in the amendment replace any and all previous z Systems IPLA sub-capacity terms and conditions.

Sub-capacity utilization determination

Sub-capacity utilization is determined based on the utilization of a sub-capacity eligible reference product and machine.

On/Off CoD

To be eligible for On/Off CoD pricing, you must be enabled for temporary capacity on the corresponding hardware, and the required contract, Attachment for IBM z Systems On/Off Capacity on Demand (Z125-7883) must be signed prior to use.

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a lawful, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.
