ICA Enhancements
Virtual Print: End users can print to a locally-attached printer via an ICA connection, in addition to LPR/LPD.
Virtual COMM Support: Attach a serial device to the networkstation. Serial ports are used to connect to printers, scanners, and other serial devices.
Load Balancing: Create WinFrame server farms that dynamically route users to the least busy server in the farm. The end user selects an application to run and is automatically connected to the least loaded server in the farm. End users have no control over the servers to which they are routed.
Cut and Paste Between ICA and X Sessions: Currently, the ICA client only supports cut and paste across ICA sessions. A Network Station user who runs an ICA session for a word processor could not cut text from a native Web browser (running in an X session) and paste into that document. This will be fixed to allow cut and paste of text between ICA and X sessions.
National Language Support (NLS)
The following languages are now supported.
- Romanian
- Hebrew
- Arabic
Network Station Manager R3.1 for WorkSpace On-Demand 2.0
Central client management for all (or to specifically designated) Network Stations connects them to a LAN or WAN in which a PC Server running the Network Station Manager code is an addressable node.
The data and applications do not reside on the Network Station. As access to applications is required by the Network Station, the Network Station Manager for OS/2 downloads the required code from the PC Server. Supported application access software includes 5250, 3270, X-terminal, NC Navigator, and Java (TM) running either within the NC Navigator Web browser or within the Network Station Java Virtual Machine.
The Network Station retains the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of non-programmable terminals (NPTs). For instance, the configuration and administration of Network Stations are Web browser-based. A central site administrator can configure and manage all Network Stations using a single graphical interface.
The Java support previously announced as Network Station Support for Java is integrated into Network Station Manager for WorkSpace On-Demand 2.0. Now you can be assured that Java and IBM program levels are compatible.
NC Navigator integrated support for Java provides network connectivity across platforms through an easy-to-use GUI. NC Navigator for Network Station and the Java support in Network Station Manager provide a complete execution environment.
Network Station Manager for WorkSpace On-Demand 2.0 leverages WorkSpace On-Demand 2.0 systems data management, network management, and printing support functions.

TN 3270E
The 3270 client is enhanced with TN3270e functions that include persistent LU session naming, which enhances system management capabilities in a S/390 (R) environment. A system administrator can:
- Restrict application access
- Preconfigure session names to locally meaningful titles
For DBCS support for TN 3270e, refer to the Product Preview section.
Year 2000
This product is Year 2000 ready. Used in accordance with its associated documentation, it can correctly process, provide, or receive date data within and between the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. All other products (for example, software, hardware, and firmware) used with the product must properly exchange accurate date data with it.
The service end date for this Year 2000 ready product is January 31, 2001.
These enhancements position the Network Station as an improved function terminal and PC replacement desktop offered at a very competitive desktop price.
This software offering brings the Network Station to the top of the terminal and low-end PC replacement market as a premier offering in that space. With its promise to deliver high-level Internet access and its current Internet access functionality, the Network Station surpasses any existing terminal offering. It provides an excellent bridge to the future client desktop requirements brought on by the Internet and by the promise of Java.
