Overview

IBM is making a series of software pricing announcements that change the Terms & Conditions of your IBM Customer Agreement (ICA) or an equivalent IBM License Agreement. Today's announcements further improve the price competitiveness of IBM's S/390 (R) software offerings for you as you grow your S/390 workloads. These announcements also focus on providing a S/390 software pricing model that is easy to understand and implement.

S/390 Usage Pricing: Provides a cost effective sub-system environment (DB2 (R), IMS (TM), CICS (R), MQSeries (R) and utility products) for start-up or low utilization environments. This offering allows you to host stable and growing applications on the same S/390 server without impacting the charge for the usage-based products for the stable application. As the server size increases to handle the needs of the growing application portfolio, the costs associated with the stable application's usage-based products remain constant. Additional benefits are a consistent PSLC-like (MSU-based) structure and an aggressive entry point for application pilot environments. Refer to Software Announcement 298-357 dated September 29, 1998.

S/390 New Application Growth Environment: Provides an attractive new software price to customers dedicating a standalone S/390 processor to qualifying new applications, or to customers consolidating print and/or file server workloads in a S/390 environment. Refer to Software Announcement 298-371 dated September 29, 1998.

Parallel Sysplex (R) Level C Pricing Extension: Extends Parallel Sysplex License Charge's (PSLC) most aggressive pricing level (Level-C) to the most current versions of IBM's PSLC-priced middleware and utility products on qualifying sysplexes and standalone PSLC-eligible systems. This action provides a consistently aggressive pricing curve for large S/390-based organizations. Refer to Software Announcement 298-355 dated September 29, 1998.

Pricing Model Simplification: IBM is withdrawing some OS/390 (R)-based pricing models. Parallel Sysplex and Usage Pricing remain. Refer to Description for details.
