Overview
Are you looking for a unified solution for managing the large, cross-platform business applications that run your company and keep it competitive? Would you like an easier way to deploy, operate and maintain your Business-critical applications? Here's a tool that can do all that and positively affect profitability by keeping your applications up and running: TME 10 Global Enterprise Manager (TM) (TME (TM) 10 GEM).
Note: If you already have TME 10 (TM) GEM (5697-B83) installed, this delivery (5697-GEM) should not be ordered.
TME 10 GEM has introduced a new paradigm for application management. It provides the solution to the challenges of managing applications running in a variety of environments, including client/server, workgroup, and the Internet. TME 10 GEM provides a simplified management view showing the relationship, data flow and interdependencies among the application components of your business system. It also delivers high-level management information about your IT resources based on their performance in a business context.
This delivery of TME 10 GEM provides the same Application Policy Manager function found in TME 10 GEM (5697-B83), but eliminates the bi-directional exchange of management data between host and distributed environments for those customers whose enterprise does not span to the S/390 (R) environment. Existing customers of TME 10 GEM (5697-B83) should not order this delivery of TME 10 Global Enterprise Manager 2.0.
Intended Customers
The ideal customers for TME 10 GEM are IT executives at Global 1000 companies who are in charge of enterprise-wide systems management. The benefits increase exponentially if these same customers support critical business functions and are measured and compensated based on business system service levels.
Key Prerequisites
TME 10 GEM supports customer environments that run both high-end management and client/server management. It includes solutions supporting a broad range of environments. Your current install base and future Network Computing Management needs will determine the necessary prerequisite products and/or systems.

TME 10 GEM provides a unified, end-to-end management solution, not only addressing your networks and systems information technology needs, but also integrating your business systems and processes. By creating a new, business focused approach to applications management, TME 10 GEM enables you to manage your strategic business systems seamlessly, and to view and control all application components -- and the underlying platforms -- in a unified manner.
TME 10 GEM allows you to view the overall health of your business applications wherever they reside within your enterprise network. It works with other TME 10 management applications enabling you to manage the dependencies between applications and their underlying infrastructure. In addition, you can understand the relationships and data flow among interconnected applications more easily, as well as control all components in your strategic business system.
Designed for simplicity and ease of use, TME 10 GEM gives you a logical view of your computing environment. It speeds implementation time and improves productivity by automatically discovering application components as they are installed in your environment. Views of applications and relationships are automatically updated when configurations change. In this way, your business system views are always up-to-date.
TME 10 GEM lets you view your enterprise applications as a cohesive business system, and at the same time, enables you to manage these applications consistently using a common set of commands with Single Action Management. Through common-command, pull-down menus, TME 10 GEM greatly simplifies administration and enables IT staff to access the information they need quickly to take immediate action. TME 10 GEM includes a base set of tasks and a toolkit that allow you to create additional application-specific operations easily.
TME 10 GEM is based on Tivoli's Application Management Specification (AMS), which provides an industry-standard mechanism to control and collect application management information. With this open approach, TME 10 GEM can automatically manage AMS-instrumented applications. Customers can manage their proprietary applications, as well as business applications and management tools instrumented by IBM and Tivoli (R) partners.
Year 2000
This product is Year 2000 ready. When used in accordance with its associated documentation, it is capable of correctly processing, providing, and/or receiving date data within and between the 20th and 21st centuries, provided all other products (for example, software, hardware, and firmware) used with the product properly exchange accurate date data with it.
TME 10 GEM provides a solution for managing groups of related applications that underpins and enables critical business functions, such as catalog and reservation systems, Internet-based banking, or Internet-based securities trading. These mission-critical IT systems present a unique management challenge. They are highly complex business systems that typically span both host and distributed environments. They are comprised of many interconnected application components, both commercial and custom, and rely on multi-protocol communications networks.
Tivoli addresses these problems through TME 10 GEM, an application-centric user interface for managing mission-critical enterprise-wide business systems.
TIVOLI PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
Tivoli Professional Services (TPS) provides a variety of fee-based TME 10 GEM services. These services include both design and installation activities focussed on helping customers manage their applications. These services can help introduce the TME 10 GEM technology rapidly into a customer's business and dramatically reduce the time needed to implement a business-system solution. TME 10 GEM uses the security and auditability features of the UNIX (R) and non-UNIX operating systems on which the TME 10 Framework operates.
The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.
New Licensees: Orders for new licenses will be accepted now.
Shipment will begin on the planned availability date.
New users of TME 10 Global Enterprise Manager 2.0 should specify:
Type Model
5697 GEM
Basic License: To order a basic license, specify the program number, feature number 9001 for asset registration, and feature number 0001 for the Tivoli 10/Flex charge.
Specify the feature number of the desired distribution medium shown below under basic machine-readable material.
TME 10 Support: Support must be ordered through program number 5697-SPT. During the first year of a license, even though support is included in the base program fee, a no charge order must be placed under 5697-SPT. Orders under 5697-SPT generate entitlement records worldwide. If an order under 5697-SPT is not placed, a customer will not be entitled to support in the first year of a license. Support is optional after the first year.
TME 10 pricing offers easy Support. The following Support options are available:
- Standard -- provides customer support during normal business hours
- Extended -- provides customer support 24 hours per day, 7 days per week
- Corrections (PTFs) that fix substantial deviations of unmodified
TME 10 products from the then-current code, publications, and/or
informal documentation (that is, release notes and memos)
- Software product updates that are improvements, extensions, and
other changes which IBM, at its discretion, deems to be reasonable
- Technical support that provides support via telephone, fax, e-mail during normal IBM business hours in the customer's locality from Monday through Friday, except local holidays, and supplies work-arounds for problems (where known), answers questions, and provides patches where they exist, and supplies to the customer a reasonable amount of assistance by mail or telephone in the event of difficulties in the use of, or the interpretation of, results from a TME 10 product.
Extended Annual Support Option: The Extended Annual Support Option includes and extends the support services provided in the Standard Annual Support Option to include technical support via telephone 7 days per week, 24 hours per day. When a customer is notified about the upcoming termination of the initial no-charge support period, the customer may choose to acquire this option for subsequent years. An MES order must be entered for the TME 10 product charges using the applicable feature numbers from the table below. After an MES order is entered, the charges will automatically renew annually unless this option is cancelled by the customer.
Extended Support Upgrade: During the first year of a license, the customer can upgrade to the Extended Support Option by ordering the applicable one-time charge (OTC) feature numbers from the table below. The OTC feature numbers may be specified on the initial order or later via MES during the first year only. Ordering the OTC feature number will not result in an extension of the initial annual support period.
In subsequent years, if a customer has acquired the Standard Annual Support Option and then wants to upgrade to the Extended Annual Support Option, an MES order must be entered to discontinue the Standard Annual Support Option feature numbers and to add the Extended Annual Support Option feature numbers. This will start a new annual support period under the Extended Annual Support Option.
