DESCRIPTION

BasePak for Version 4 Release 2 (5649-EP3) is enhanced with:

  • Support for Lotus Domino for AS/400
  • TCP/IP enhancements
  • Facsimile
  • Enablement for AS/400 Integration for Windows NT Server

Lotus Domino for AS/400

OS/400 (R) V4R2 provides support for Lotus Domino for AS/400 combining the AS/400's strength of integration, ease-of-use, and scalability with the world's leading collaborative groupware offering.

Domino provides the Notes (TM) client and Notes applications with direct access to the DB2/400 (R) database. Direct access to DB2/400 enables easier, more efficient access to data. You need not acquire additional drivers such as ODBC. The System Distribution Directory combined with two-way directory synchronization makes the AS/400 a universal mail server and allows users to replicate their name and address books to other servers.

Domino also leverages the new AS/400 Kernel Threads model. A Kernel Threads model helps you avoid job initiation time and reduce the amount of system resources required for each task. Kernel Threads by Domino for AS/400 can scale to thousands of mail users on the AS/400 system.

Note: Lotus Domino for AS/400 is packaged, priced, and supported by Lotus. Lotus Domino for AS/400 is purchased through an Authorized Lotus Reseller. For more information, visit:

TCP/IP Enhancements

AS/400 intranets have never been easier.

Significant new TCP/IP capabilities are offered for the AS/400 in V4R2.

The latest WAN protocol called Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) now comes with OS/400. Also, AS/400 IP routing capabilities are enhanced with RIP V2 and powerful network access security features. OS/400 now includes the TCP/IP standard name server called Domain Name Service (DNS).

These new capabilities allow multiple AS/400 systems to be networked together efficiently over both LANs and WANs without requiring other systems for routing or name services. New security and automation enablement on the AS/400 Telnet server includes exit program support, virtual device selection, and optional automated signon.

TCP/IP networking on the AS/400 is now simpler than ever to administer. First, the AS/400 TCP/IP configuration is now managed through all new GUIs. A new service to centrally administer all workstation configuration data for IP networks is included with OS/400. This service is based on an Internet standard called Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).

TCP/IP options have been extended to include Twinax connectivity to workstations.

Facsimile Support

Includes enhancements in three major areas:

  • Windows NT client support
  • Inbound fax routing capability
  • Improved ANYMAIL integration
Print-to-fax through the Client Access (TM) AFP (TM) print driver is supported in Windows NT using Window 95/NT Client Access V3R1M3. You can now browse the Facsimile Support/400 (TM) phonebook databases.

Inbound routing based on DTMF and DID codes sent by GAMMAFAX adapters is available in enhanced services.

Enhancements to Outbound Anymail integration include integration with the AnyImage APIs to support level-one PostScript GIF, TIFF, and BMP mail attachments. Also, faxes are now sent using the sending user ID fax profile, allowing customized cover pages, and all the status checking features of enhanced services.

AS/400 Integration for Windows NT Server

AS/400 Integration for Windows NT Server enables Microsoft (R) Windows NT Server Version 4.0 on the AS/400 Integrated PC Server. In a single combination server, you can run mission-critical business applications on the AS/400, while running Windows NT Server for file, print, personal productivity, and other applications.

You must purchase a copy of Windows NT Server V4.0 from a Microsoft Reseller.

AS/400 Support for Windows Network Neighborhood (AS/400 NetServer)

Personal computers running Windows 95, Windows NT, and Windows for Workgroups software can seamlessly access data and printers managed by the AS/400 system.

Simply put, the AS/400 system will appear in the "Network Neighborhood" provided with the Windows 95 and Windows NT software.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Specified Operating Environment

Hardware Requirements: AS/400e server 150

Refer to Hardware Announcement 198-024 dated February 10, 1998.

If you have a new V4R2 system, ensure the free DASD space is large enough to install all your application programs and data files and run your programs.

The preloaded functions of BasePak take 2.3 GB of DASD space. You can load the optional items of BasePak using the licensed program installation menu. These will require 0.4 GB of DASD space if all functions are loaded. When you do this, you must add the size of the added functions to the amount of DASD space occupied by BasePak so that you can calculate the remaining DASD space available for your applications and data.

At least 500 MB of free DASD space is required to upgrade AS/400 Licensed Internal Code and OS/400 from V3R7 or V4R1 to V4R2. To upgrade to V4R2, check the amount of free space available using the Work with System Status command (WRKSYSSTS). If you have less than 500 MB of free space available, increase your free space to 500 MB by deleting unneeded programs and files (after saving them on tape) or by adding more DASD to your system, before upgrading.

For V4R2 sizing information, visit the Internet at:

Software Requirements
  • V4R2 products require V4R2 BasePak (5649-EP3).

  • V4R2 BasePak (5649-EP3) will be preloaded and shipped when hardware feature #0291, #0292, #0293, or #0294 is ordered.

  • 5649-EP3 is not ordered with a preloaded system unless a DBCS NLV is selected.

  • For assistance in installing and using 5649-FW2 (Firewall for AS/400), access the Internet at:
Compatibility: Users upgrading from V3R7 BasePak and requiring a DOS or OS/2 client of Client Access must order 5649-XY1. These clients are not included in BasePak for V4R2.
