Compatibility: TME 10 Information/Management Version 1 Release 1 is upward compatible at the database level with Version 6 Release 3.

Information/Management Version 6 Release 3 is upward compatible at the database level with Version 6 Release 2 and prior with the following exceptions:

  • To take advantage of a performance enhancement that allows for SDIDS records to be greater than 32,760 bytes in length, without being spanned:
    • The SDIDS VSAM cluster must be redefined with a key length of either 18 or 34, and a maximum record size of not more than 32,760, not spanned.

    • The VSAM resource definition module must be updated to reflect the above changes.

    • The BLGUT1 utility must be run to rebuild the SDIDS.
  • To take advantage of SDSS sizes greater than 20 gigabytes:
    • A new set of SDDS clusters must be defined (from 1 to 100 clusters, where each cluster contains up to 4 gigabytes of data).

    • The BLGUT7 utility must be run to copy the current SDDS data to the new SDDS clusters.

    • Appropriate BLG session parameters members must be updated to include the new SDDS cluster definitions.
Information/Management Version 6 Release 3 is upward compatible at the database level with Version 6 Release 1 with the following exception:
  • Enabling four-digit years in the SDIDS requires an SDIDS rebuild using the BLGUT1 utility.
Information/Management Version 6 Release 3 is upward compatible at the database level with Version 5 Release 1, with the following exceptions:
  • Enabling 32-byte keys requires a database rebuild using the BLGUT1 utility.

  • Enabling the new data compression technique for the Structured Description Indexed Datasets (SDIDS) for performance improvements requires a database rebuild via the BLGUT1 utility.

  • Customers wishing to use Information/MVS (5665-955) with Information/Management Version 6 must order the Direct Load Facility.
Information/Management Version 6 Release 3 is upward compatible at the database level with Version 4 Release 2.2, with the following exceptions:
  • Information/MVS and Information/Access product databases (databases 0 and 6) are not supported; user databases in Information/MVS format (databases 1, 2, and 3) continue to be supported. You must order the Direct Load Facility of Information/MVS.

  • A report that is running cannot lock the database for longer than the time it takes to process a single record.

  • A new VSAM definition member must be defined, assembled, and link-edited to specify VSAM options for Information/Management, including LSR pool definitions and lists of data sets for which LSR should be used (which were in the users' session parameters members in Version 4 Release 2.2), all users' session parameters members must be reassembled and re-link-edited, a started task procedure must be defined, some MVS system parameters must be modified, and a system IPL must be done prior to accessing databases through Version 6 for the first time.

  • Should the customer choose to make use of the capability to support SDDSs larger than 4 gigabytes (either during initial installation of the product or at later date), a database migration utility (BLGUT7) must be run against the customer's current databases to create new databases. User session parameters members (BLGSESxx) and VSAM definition members must be modified, reassembled, and re-link-edited at the time of this migration.

One-Time Charge: Customers who pay a one-time charge for a licensed program receive enhancements and future releases, if any, at no additional charge. Significant new function may be offered as an optional feature and charged for separately. If a replacement program is announced and the customer elects to license the replacement program, a time-based upgrade credit may apply.

Variable Charges: The applicable graduated one-time charge, if applicable, or graduated monthly license charge will be based on the group of the designated machine on which the licensed program is licensed for use. If the program is designated to a processor in a group for which no charge is listed above, the charge of the next higher group listed applies.

For upgrades of one-time charge licenses to a machine in a higher group, the upgrade charge will be the difference in the then current charges between the two groups. For downgrades of one-time charge licenses to a machine in a lower group, there will be no adjustment or refund of one-time charges paid.

For upgrades or downgrades of monthly license charge licenses, the monthly license charge applicable to the higher or lower group will apply.

Entry Support License One-Time Charge: One-time charge authorizes use only on IBM Entry End User/390 Machines.
