Overview

IBM® Aspera® transfer platform is an advanced software solution for file transfer, synchronization, and streaming of digital assets, enabling secure, high-speed movement of data, regardless of distance or network condition. IBM Aspera High-Speed Transfer Server (previously known as Enterprise Server and Connect Server) is a versatile software application that enables an unlimited number of concurrent users to transfer files of any size at top speed using an Aspera client.

IBM Aspera High-Speed Transfer Endpoint (previously known as Point-to-Point Client) enables users to transfer files directly between locations.

Aspera High-Speed Transfer Server V3.9 and Aspera High-Speed Transfer Endpoint V3.9 are currently available only on Linux® x86_64 platform and deliver the following key features and capabilities:

  • A new AES-GCM encryption mode (AES-128-GCM, AES-192-GCM, and AES-256-GCM) offers significantly faster encryption, decryption, and transfer compared to the legacy AES encryption mode, as well as built-in data authentication and FIPS 140-2 compliance. These encryption ciphers can be configured on the server, set in access keys, and requested by the client, including transfers started with ascp, the GUI, Hot Folders (for Windows™), Aspera Sync, Watch Folders, and the Node API. Ciphers are reported to management without the suffix.
  • Upgraded JRE to 8u181 for support of strong ciphers.
  • Linux HST server applications that enable it to be deployed in a cluster with a highly-available Redis backend. This helps enable you to leverage the high-speed transfer capabilities of Aspera with continuous availability and automatic failover if one node goes down.
  • IBM Spectrum Scale™ (previously known as IBM General Parallel File System) NFSv4 ACLs are able to be preserved.

IBM Aspera Faspex Application provides an intuitive, efficient way for individuals and groups to collaborate and exchange files and directories of any size, over any distance. IBM Aspera Faspex V4.2 is currently available only on Linux x86_64 platform and has the following enhanced features:

  • Support for HTTP-native transfers in highly secure and locked down environments that do not permit the installation of Aspera Connect.
  • New option to perform file validation out-of-transfer, which enables post-transfer processing to begin immediately after a file transfer, parallel to file validation by reporting the files status as validating, and then complete once the validation completes
  • Upgraded licensing model enables access to an unlimited number of Faspex users.

IBM Aspera Console is a centralized web-based application that enables users to manage, monitor, and control multiple Aspera nodes and clusters. Effective September 1, 2018, the licensing model for Aspera Console has been upgraded to remove the restriction on the number of nodes and clusters the application can manage. The limitation on the number of concurrent users was also removed. This enables additional concurrent users and the ability to manage additional Aspera nodes and clusters without having to purchase additional licenses. Aspera Console can also be used in a high-availability configuration for which additional clustered licenses need to be purchased. Aspera Console has a new price point as the parts for additional nodes and users are no longer sold.

The products are completely converted to new names; Enterprise Server and Connect Server are now IBM Aspera High-Speed Transfer Server, Point-to-Point Client is now IBM Aspera High-Speed Transfer Endpoint, and Desktop Client is now IBM Aspera Desktop Client. These changes affect installer package names, the GUI, and the display names and descriptions of Aspera services, but not the default paths to Aspera application files.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage®, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

This software license includes Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance).

Software Maintenance

Licenses under the IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. Two charges apply: a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Limited warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, see the IBM Software Support Handbook.

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

Program support

Subscription and Support includes telephone assistance, as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect. You will be notified of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice.

Money-back guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Software Subscription and Support applies

Yes. Software Subscription and Support, also referred to as Software Maintenance, is included with licenses purchased through Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express. Product upgrades and Technical Support are provided by the Software Subscription and Support offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software, and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.

IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.

While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance by telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For additional details, see the IBM Software Support Handbook. Software Subscription and Support does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under the applicable agreements.

Unless specified otherwise in a written agreement with you, IBM does not provide support for third-party products that were not provided by IBM. Ensure that when contacting IBM for covered support, you follow problem determination and other instructions that IBM provides, including in the IBM Software Support Handbook.
