    • IBM Cloud Private utilization enables clients to significantly improve deployment and upgrade times of Netcool Operations Insight - Operations Management and Netcool Operations Insight - Agile Service Manager, components of Netcool Operations Insight
  • Enhanced event grouping analytics for greater noise and incident reduction
    • Automatically detect and group events based on linguistic proximity
    • Combine machine learning and analytics with domain knowledge driven scope-based event groups for even greater incident reductions and context for problem resolution
  • Improved event analytics time to value and user experience through user interface driven analytics, configuration, and setup
  • Extended hybrid management support
    • Apache Kafka event integration for both consumption and publishing into a Kafka message bus.
    • IBM Cloud Private and Kubernetes probe integration.
    • WebHook and WebSocket integration, using the IBM Tivoli® Netcool/OMNIbus Probe for Message Bus. The Probe for Message Bus can acquire XML and JSON events from various sources using Java™ Message Service (JMS), HTTP/s, Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT), Web Socket or data files. It then converts these events into Netcool/OMNIbus events and sends them to the ObjectServer.
  • Improved visibility and control for operations teams that manage highly dynamic infrastructure and services

Netcool Operations Insight - Agile Service Manager

  • Includes new layouts for topology views that provide a topological foundation of the environment
  • Improved management of customizations
    • Supports the ability to define topology icons, including support for loading custom icons (as scalable vector graphics)
    • Includes the ability to change the presentation of a topology based on dynamic data presented to the system
    • Can configure simple JavaScript™ functions to control relationship labels and styling based on the properties available

  • Includes redesign of the time slider and history timeline panel
    • Provides better control of the history timeline time slider, including the ability to slide forward or backward through the timeline to see how topology changes
    • Includes analytics showcase key points in history timeline based on relationships, properties, or status change
    • Is able to select any combination of changes to depict on the timeline (relationships, properties, status)
    • Delivers new visual guides to assist first-time users of the UI as well as online help improvements

Netcool Operations Insight - Operations Management

  • Enables organizations to deploy Netcool Operations Insight - Operations Management through Container based deployment running on IBM Cloud Private
  • Improved machine learning and event grouping capabilities
    • Related Event Groping Analytics pattern is enhanced to drive further event and incident reduction by automatically detecting and grouping events based resources with similar names, also known as linguistic proximity.
    • Ability to apply machine learning on top of the knowledge driven Scope Based event grouping.
  • Simplified Event Analytics set up through a UI driven analytics setup guide
  • Continuous integration updates, including standard support for levering Webhook integration, Publishing and Consumption of events through Kafka

Netcool Operations Insight - Network Management

An optional component that is comprised of IBM Tivoli Network Manager and IBM Tivoli Netcool Configuration Manager. With the adopted agile approach in delivery, Netcool Operations Insight - Network Management is continuously updated with new capabilities to help drive further network management efficiencies in a multivendor, multiple network environment.

Highlights of updated capabilities of Netcool Operation Insight - Network Management:

  • Monitors internet protocol (IP) service level agreement (SLA) configurations for efficient compliancy management, with its support of Cisco IP SLA, Juniper real-time performance monitoring (RPM), and Huawei Network Quality Analysis (NQA)
  • Improves visualization for operations efficiency:
    • View detailed device information through the composite device view GUI
    • Ability to export a network view to a comma-separated values file, enabling flexibility in its usage as required by the user
    • Contains geographical maps updates where available base mapping layers and custom mapping layers are in the geographical views
    • Ability to change the default layer connectivity in network hop view
  • Can edit Tivoli Netcool Configuration Manager ideal configuration if it does not contain regular expression
    • Update in Tivoli Netcool Configuration Manager now returns the actual Model field.

Netcool Operations Insight - Agile Service Manager

Netcool Operations Insight - Agile Service Manager is a new optional component that enables operations teams to gain complete, up-to-date visibility and control over highly dynamic infrastructure and services (only supported on Linux). A dynamic topology is a resource topology that undergoes constant change. (Virtual resources, modularized components, cloud-based infrastructure components are some resources that undergo constant change.) Netcool Operations Insight - Agile Service Manager is a powerful dynamic topology management solution for your increasingly virtualized and unpredictable IT, network, and storage environment. Dynamic Topology management solutions present a topological foundation of your resources and their relationships as the environment changes. Dynamic Topology solutions provide near real-time visibility of current behavior and, crucially, the ability to view historical topology. You need to see more than just the current conditions of the environment; you need a way to go back in time and understand how the environment behaved up to and during an incident as part of your postmortem activities.

Capabilities:

  • Reduces the load on operators, improves the mean time to know (MTTK), and helps event and performance management tools with context necessary to help determine probable cause.
  • Understands that a quality topological foundation requires data from multiple domains of information. One key benefit is facilitating the correlations between data ingestion from other management systems as well as directly from the environment. The REST interfaces and Observers in Netcool Operations Insight - Agile Service Manager helps present data from multiple sources, to achieve a consistent (current and historical) perspective.
  • Helps teams gain a normalized representation of resources, resource relationships, and resource status in order to achieve a foundational topological understanding of the environment. Operators can see one representation of a resource instead of multiple distinct, disjoint representations of the same resource. The merge microservice is a very powerful solution that builds composite resource representations from the source data.
  • Lets any resource and any property in your business model and resource taxonomy to be presented to Netcool Operations Insight - Agile Service Manager. You are able to begin with the business model and resource taxonomy practices in use immediately without any declaration of advance metadata or setup required to develop the metadata.
  • Includes a UI experience that is fully customizable to your business. In addition to total resource model type flexibility, Netcool Operations Insight - Agile Service Manager also includes the following support:
    • Custom iconography for resources
    • Dynamic relationship decoration based on any data presented to Netcool Operations Insight - Agile Service Manager
    • Visualization filtering to adjust topology content views to match selected relationship types or resource types
    • Direct URL access to a given topology (facilitating information exchange between operators)
  • Supports right-click action definitions. Facilitating a loose coupling to other systems, you can create specific topology launch actions, which users can access from within a topology's context menu (for example, right-click action). These context menu launch actions include conditional support (for example, show specific menu actions for a specific set of resource types, or relationship types, or both).
  • It is this set of key capabilities in Netcool Operations Insight - Agile Service Manager that represent a solution unique across the industry.

Netcool Operations Insight - Performance Management

The wide scale adoption of cloud services in corporate IT has forced IT teams to evaluate how they operate. For cloud services scenarios, the IT team has to ensure adequate internet connectivity to the cloud service provider (on public cloud) and within the intranet. These business relevant cloud service applications are given higher priority in the network compared to typical internet browsing traffic. This is where Network Performance Insight - Performance Management fits into the picture. Network Performance Insight - Performance Management is the network performance management component of Netcool Operations Insight. Network Performance Insight - Performance Management brings in three major performance data sources: SNMP, Flow, and Active Test Operations (Cisco IP SLA, Juniper RPM and Huawei NQA).

Network Performance Insight - Performance Management capabilities:

  • Identifies bottlenecks and high utilization areas in network for faster root cause analysis (reduces mean time to repair)
  • Exposes use of bandwidth consuming applications and users
  • Assesses impact of network traffic load on overall quality latency sensitive service
  • Validates effectiveness of network quality of service policy
  • Detects performance anomalies through threshold violation and deviations

Highlights of updated capabilities:

  • UI: Introduces new performance dashboards for the network SME based on persistent responsive dashboard, including Network Performance Overview, Network Traffic Overview, Extensive Flow-related Reports and On-Demand Device Performance Report
  • Analytics: Delivers dynamic deviation analytics that highlight devices that are not performing well compared to past performance (historical)
  • Integration: Standard integration with Cacti and Netcool Operations Analytics - Predictive Insights
  • Scalability: Introduces a new Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) High Scale Collector to meet the needs of enterprises with thousands of devices to monitor
  • Flow: Contains advanced flow analytics supporting Cisco Application Visibility and Control, such as NBAR2 for application recognition, Application Response Time (ART) and Queue Drop for quality of service, monitoring through IP Groups and PR-SCTP transport protocol in addition to User Data Protocol for reliable transmission of flow
  • SNMP: Introduces Rapid Device Onboarding capability so users can configure the collection of performance metrics of new SNMP device types plus Performance Metric OOTB Device Support for Cisco, Juniper, and Huawei devices
  • IP SLA: Supports Juniper RPM and Huawei NQA
  • Deployment flexibility: Includes option to install NPI for Flow only, without a prerequisite deployment of Netcool Operations Insights - Network Management
  • Platform support: Includes Network Performance Insights Hadoop stack, which is now based on Hortonworks Data Platform

Performance considerations

Netcool Operations Insight V1.5 utilizes IBM Db2® technology, designed to manage data more effectively and efficiently. Db2 technology offers significantly increased data protection, scalability, and performance for all its database intensive operations. It is designed to manage data more effectively and efficiently. Greater availability is delivered through enhancements, such as online, automated database reorganization. In addition, the increased scalability and the ability to leverage the latest in server technology helps deliver increased performance of backup and recovery processes.

IBM Electronic Support

The IBM Support Portal is your gateway to technical support. This includes IBM Electronic Support tools and resources, for software and hardware, to help save time and simplify support. The Electronic Support tools can help you find answers to questions, download fixes, troubleshoot, automate data collection, submit and track problems through the Service Request online tool, and build skills. Licensing metric definitions

The program has high availability and is licensed solely on the basis of the environment managed. For the avoidance of doubt, this means that no additional entitlements are required to entitle high availability.

Where Db2 is entitled for limited use by the supporting programs of Netcool Operations Insight, licensee may leverage a common Db2 install for the supporting programs within the terms of the restricted use licenses.

Managed Virtual Server

Licensee must obtain entitlement for each Virtual Server managed by the program regardless of any intermediate consolidation application. An unpartitioned physical server counts as a single virtual server. Examples of servers include, but are not limited to, servers, logical partitions, and Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) processors.

Managed Virtual Network Device

Licensee must obtain entitlement for each Virtual Network Device managed by the program regardless of any intermediate consolidation application. An unpartitioned physical device counts as a single virtual Network Device. Examples of Network Device include, but are not limited to, switches, routers, bridges, hubs, and firewalls.

Managed Client Device

Licensee must obtain entitlement for each Client Device managed by the program regardless of any intermediate consolidation application. Examples of Client Device include, but are not limited to, actuators, appliances, automated teller machines, automatic meter readers, cash registers, disk drives, desktop computers, kiosks, notebook computers, personal digital assistant, point-of-sale terminals, sensors, smart meters, tape drives, technical workstations printers, VoIP telephones, DSL modems, cable modems, and assets, such as production equipment, facilities-related items, and transportation-related items.

Monthly Events

Monthly Events is a unit of measure by which the Program can be licensed. An Event is an occurrence of a specific event that is processed by or related to the use of the Program. Sufficient entitlements must be obtained to cover every Event in any calendar month. Operations management may also be entitled by 10,000 Monthly Events only in the case where the underlying infrastructure is unknowable.

Smart Meter

A Smart Meter is usually an electronic device that records consumption of electric energy, natural gas, water, and so on in intervals of time and communicates that information at least daily back to the utility for monitoring and billing.

Netcool Operations Insight is priced using the above metrics applied to the following components.

250,000 Smart Meters Managed Client Device

Large quantities of Smart Meters may be entitled in units of 250,000 Smart Meters. This part applies only to Smart Meters.

Telecoms 50,000 Devices Managed Device

Large quantities of virtual network devices and client devices may be entitled as units of 50,000 virtual network devices. Examples of devices in this case exclude those defined as managed virtual servers, but include all those defined in Managed Virtual Network Device and Managed Client Device above.

Netcool Operations Insight - Operations Management

The Netcool Operations Insight - Operations Management component is entitled by Managed Virtual Server, Managed Virtual Network Device, and Managed Client Device. The licensee must obtain entitlement for each Virtual Server, Virtual Network Device and Client Device managed by the program where the Operations functionality is required. Operations functionality includes Log Analysis capability.

Netcool Operations Insight - Network Management

Netcool Operations Insight - Network Management is entitled by Managed Virtual Server, Managed Virtual Network Device, and Managed Client Device. The licensee must obtain entitlement for each Virtual Server, Virtual Network Device, and Client Device managed by the program where Network Management functionality is required. This covers discovery, polling, and configuration management.

Netcool Operations Insight - Network Performance Management

Netcool Operations Insight - Performance Management component is entitled by Managed Virtual Server, Managed Virtual Network Device, and Managed Client Device. The licensee must obtain entitlement for each Virtual Server, Virtual Network Device, and Client Device managed by the program where performance management functionality is required.

Netcool Operations Insight - Agile Service Manager

Netcool Operations Insight - Agile Service Manager is entitled by Managed Virtual Server, Managed Virtual Network Device, and Managed Client Device. The licensee must obtain entitlement for each Virtual Server, Virtual Network Device, and Client Device managed by the program where Agile Service Manager functionality is required.

Netcool Operations Insight - Connection

Each instance of an application or system integrated with the program for purposes other than event collection is considered to be a connection. Examples include, but are not limited to, use of the program's gateways, data source adapters, or API for the purposes for event archive, integration with trouble ticketing, and other operational support systems.

Integration of third-party data solely for the purpose of display requires a single connection entitlement per 10 data sources. This applies only to data that is not processed other than for display.


Pricing examples

Example 1

The client wants to carry out fault and enrichment management on 100 physical servers each running 6 virtual servers and 50 network devices none of which are virtualized. The Netcool Operations Insight management system is running in a highly available configuration.

The client requires a quantity of:

  • 600 Netcool Operations Insight Operations - Management Managed Virtual Servers
  • 50 Netcool Operations Insight Operations - Management Managed Virtual Network Devices

There is no volume reduction calculation to take place and the high availability configuration does not require any additional entitlements.

Example 2

Client wants to fault manage and network manage to 10,000 automated meter readers and enrich the event information from data held in an Db2 database, which has been populated by a third-party configuration system and from a billings system.

The client requires a quantity of:

  • 10,000 Netcool Operations Insight - Operations Management Managed Client Devices
  • 10,000 Netcool Operations Insight - Network Management Managed Client Devices
  • 2 Netcool Operations Insight - Connections.

There are two applications being connected to configuration and billing even though a single database is being used. There are no separate parts required for ObjectServer or Impact installs.

Example 3

Client wants all of Netcool Operations Insight functionality on 30,000 routers and switches, 10,000 cable modems, 10,000 point-of-sale terminals, and 5,000 virtual servers.

The client requires a quantity of:

  • 1 Netcool Operations Insight - Operations Management 50,000 Telecom Devices

  • Some programs may require licenses for the resources available to and the resources being managed by the program. In that case, the following applies. The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

This product is only available through Passport Advantage.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

This software license includes Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance).

Software Maintenance

Licenses under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. Two charges apply: a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

For Netcool Operations Insight On Prem

Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of five years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (by telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to updates (modifications or fixes), releases, and versions of the program. You will be notified, through an announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

For the optional component, Agile Service Manager

Agile Service Manager is designed and developed using a micro service-based architecture and container-based deployment to allow customers to install, deploy and upgrade to receive function and service more rapidly with the added safeguard of a simple rollback. Therefore, IBM requires clients to stay as current on product software as possible and upgrade to the most recent Agile Service Manager mod and fixpack levels (the "M" and "F" in V.R.M.F) to ensure maximum protection and availability of the latest functions, security updates and defect fixes.

Technical support for Agile Service Manager applies only to the IBM licensed product and its components. If the product runs on an operating system that is no longer supported, or with a non IBM co-requisite or non-IBM prerequisite product that is no longer supported by the provider, IBM technical support may be limited to defects that can be replicated on currently supported environments.

For the container-based version of Netcool Operations Insight running on IBM Cloud Private

Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of two years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect.

This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (by telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to versions, releases, and updates (CD releases, Long Term Support Releases, or fixes) of the program. You will be notified, through an announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with six months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

Limited warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, see the IBM Software Support Handbook.

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

Money-back guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Yes. Software Subscription and Support, also referred to as Software Maintenance, is included with licenses purchased through Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express. Product upgrades and Technical Support are provided by the Software Subscription and Support offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software, and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.

IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.

While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance by telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For additional details, see the IBM Software Support Handbook. Software Subscription and Support does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under the applicable agreements.

Unless specified otherwise in a written agreement with you, IBM does not provide support for third-party products that were not provided by IBM. Ensure that when contacting IBM for covered support, you follow problem determination and other instructions that IBM provides, including in the IBM Software Support Handbook.

Electronic Service Agent™ and the IBM Electronic Support web portal are dedicated to providing fast, exceptional support to organizations that have IBM Systems. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tool is a no-additional-charge tool that proactively monitors and reports hardware events, such as system errors, performance issues, and inventory. The Electronic Service Agent tool can help you stay focused on your company's strategic business initiatives, save time, and spend less effort managing day-to-day IT maintenance issues. Servers enabled with this tool can be monitored remotely around the clock by IBM Support, all at no additional cost to you.

Now integrated into the base operating system of AIX V5.3, AIX V6.1, and AIX V7.1, Electronic Service Agent is designed to automatically and electronically report system failures and utilization issues to IBM, which can result in faster problem resolution and increased availability. System configuration and inventory information collected by the Electronic Service Agent tool also can be viewed on the secure Electronic Support web portal, and used to improve problem determination and resolution by you and the IBM support team. To access the tool main menu, simply type smitty esa_main, and select Configure Electronic Service Agent. In addition, ESA now includes a powerful web user interface, giving the administrator easy access to status, tool settings, problem information, and filters. The IBM Electronic Support portal is a single internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM internet services and support. This portal enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The My Systems and Premium Search functions make it even easier for organizations that are Electronic Service Agent tool-enabled to track system inventory and find pertinent fixes.

Benefits

Increased uptime: The Electronic Service Agent™ tool is designed to enhance the Warranty or Maintenance Agreement by providing faster hardware error reporting and uploading system information to IBM Support. This can translate to less wasted time monitoring the symptoms, diagnosing the error, and manually calling IBM Support to open a problem record. Its 24 x 7 monitoring and reporting mean human intervention is not required to report errors.

Security: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to be secure in monitoring, reporting, and storing the data at IBM. The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to securely transmit either through the internet (HTTPS or VPN) or modem to provide organizations a single point of exit from their site. Communication is one way. Activating Electronic Service Agent does not enable IBM to call into an organization's system.

More accurate reporting: Because system information and error logs are automatically uploaded to the IBM Support Center in conjunction with the service request, you are not required to find and send system information, decreasing the risk of misreported or misdiagnosed errors. Once inside IBM, problem error data is run through a data knowledge management system and knowledge articles are appended to the problem record.

Customized support: Using the IBMid entered during activation, you can view system and support information in the My Systems and Premium Search sections of the IBM Electronic Support page.

My Systems provides valuable reports of installed hardware and software using information collected from the systems by Electronic Service Agent. Reports are available for any system associated with your IBMid. Premium Search combines the function of search and the value of Electronic Service Agent information, providing advanced search of the technical support knowledgebase. Using Premium Search and the Electronic Service Agent information that has been collected from your system, you are able to see search results that apply specifically to your systems.
