The Application Integration Suite provides a unified, integration capability that allows business and IT to align their objectives and deliver enhanced client experiences together in their digital transformation initiatives. It offers a broad and deep set of tooling that combines four rich capabilities to help enterprises facilitate their digital transformation:

  • Cloud integration
  • Enterprise integration
  • API management
  • Citizen integration

Application Integration Suite can be deployed on-premise or in the cloud and is now available to purchase with a Hybrid Entitlement license. This new license offers the flexibility for organizations to deploy entitlements in whatever way the business requires, either on-premise, in the cloud, or both, all with just one, single purchase.

Synchronize systems of record and Cloud Service applications

Businesses need to connect their applications and systems together in an efficient way. Different teams across an organization are likely to contribute and use the resulting data. To eliminate the duplication of work and costly errors, users need to ensure this data is kept synchronized. Businesses need a way to capture and distribute changes to ensure that data is consistent across their applications, wherever the applications reside, on-premise or in the cloud.

Application Integration Suite includes a market-leading integration capability that enables real-time and event-driven integration for keeping data across applications synchronized. It includes:

  • Ready-to-use connectors
  • Pre-built integration templates
  • Patterns that accelerate and simplify the creation of integrations.

This integration solution identifies events that occur in a wide range of enterprise systems and Cloud Service applications. It transforms and routes them to their intended destination systems or applications. This improves visibility of business data, events, and messages that flow through the integration layer to allow for faster responses to changing business needs and to improve the ability to make smarter business decisions.

Organizations always need new ways to generate new revenue opportunities. APIs:

  • Present a significant revenue opportunity by allowing organizations to monetize their data and functions in the API economy.
  • Can also be used to accelerate innovation.
  • Accelerate innovation by allowing developers outside of an enterprise to explore an organizations' APIs so that new business models can evolve in ways that may never have emerged internally.
  • Are a key part of hybrid integration as the business initiative falls almost entirely into the integration domain.

Unlock data and accelerate innovation through APIs

Organizations need to embrace an API-driven approach to drive business growth by using APIs to:

  • Accelerate innovation. Allow developers inside and outside of an enterprise to explore any relevant APIs that meet a business requirement for information.
  • Present new revenue opportunities. Allow organizations to monetize their data and functions in the API economy.

Application Integration Suite allows clients to take the integration flows that securely expose the data in their systems and easily publish those as APIs. These APIs can be easily pushed into the API management capability where they can then be securely exposed to a broad audience of internal and external developers. This solution is flexible and accommodates differing levels of complexity and requirements. The integration engine helps to simplify the unlocking of data out of systems of record. It comes with a vast array of pre-built, configurable connectivity to common systems. This enables organizations to integrate to any system within an enterprise whether modern or legacy, with support for a huge range of easy-to-install protocols and transports.

Increase productivity by empowering front-line business users

Teams within the line of business should focus on innovation rather than on day-to-day processes. In the digital economy, an organizations' day-to-day tasks and processes should be as efficient and automated as possible. Few business processes occur only with a single system. Some process needs to move data from one system to another for the next step in the process to occur. It is essential that business teams do not spend significant time manually moving data from one system to another. The ability of a business to streamline its processes is a key differentiator in the digital economy.

Application Integration Suite allows business users to perform their own integration automation within their line of business. Simple, yet powerful, tooling enables them to integrate on-premise and Cloud Service applications for workflow automation. Control remains with IT and business users can create all the integrations they want to these systems without needing to disrupt IT.

Restructure for innovation

Giving users the tools and data to innovate quickly and in response to client needs is one of the hallmarks of a successful digital business. The first step is to move, all or in part, to a completely online, self-service model. Moving a business online is one challenge, but standing out from competitors is another. For businesses to successfully achieve differentiation through the pace and creativity of their innovation in their online platform and products, they must be able to rapidly compose new applications from what they already have and embrace partner capabilities to incorporate in their solutions.

Application Integration Suite enables businesses to leverage the composable application infrastructure to innovate and bring new products to market. The integration capabilities within this solution make it easy to expose capabilities as secure, yet easily configurable APIs, to synchronize data with systems of record. This allows businesses access to external sources of data to enrich their functionality.

Modernize applications

When businesses modernize their applications by introducing new application architectures, such as microservices, they benefit from the enhanced agility, scalability, and resilience of new solutions. A microservice architecture enables the creation of more composable applications, by breaking down complex applications into self-contained components, which are each focused on doing just one thing well. This enables new ideas to be implemented in isolation and provides greater agility. These components can then be joined together into solutions with more elastic scalability, and more flexible resilience models. Businesses can innovate faster, scale the ideas that are successful, and ensure they meet the levels of service their reputation depends upon.

Application Integration Suite enables businesses to move to a microservices architecture and to deliver on the following integration requirements:

  • Surface the APIs in a rich and highly-consumable way. This decentralization of the administration of APIs is critical for agility both from the perspective of the microservices implementers and the business partners who want to use those APIs.
  • Allow discrete policy management. Establish usage policies for any group or individual to align to the business requirement for the consumption of that microservice.

Work with integrated tooling

With the flexibility to deploy as a service on the IBM Cloud or as software on custom, virtualized or physical, infrastructure on premise, Application Integration Suite on Cloud delivers a solution for hybrid application integration that combines the capabilities of:

  • IBM Integration Bus
  • IBM API Connect™
  • IBM App Connect

Make use of new enhancements

  • Hybrid Entitlements option and Virtual Processor Cores (VPC) metrics

    More and more businesses deploy application integration within a mixed hybrid environment of on-premise and cloud deployments. The goal is to provide the freedom to respond quickly to the needs of the business through a flexible licensing model that embraces any type of software deployment. Often, businesses want to take advantage of the cloud for quick innovation development and deploying new integrations in the cloud, while keeping the option to consolidate solutions into their existing on-premise infrastructure. This can enable them to quickly enhance existing applications by connecting and integrating new, cloud-based capabilities.

    Hybrid Entitlement is a new option that provides the flexibility to shift or span entitlements between cloud and on-premise deployments. Clients can evolve the deployment as their business needs change, by moving either to the cloud or back to on-premise, or changing the distribution of the licensing across the two environments.

    Hybrid Entitlement is made available under the VPC metric, which counts the number of processor cores that are available in the environment of the client's choosing, regardless of the hardware platform type. With VPC monthly pricing, clients pay for what they need on a term and subscription basis.

    The new Hybrid Entitlement option and the new VPC monthly metric are supported by the following offerings:

    • Application Integration Suite and Application Integration Suite on Cloud
    • App Connect Professional and App Connect Professional on Cloud
    • Integration Bus and Integration Bus on Cloud

    The pricing metrics, which are available for the perpetual licensing options of Integration Bus and Application Integration Suite, remain unchanged by this announcement.

  • Expanded Service Level Agreement (SLA) support

    Integration Bus on Cloud and Application Integration Suite on Cloud now have SLA support. The SLA for App Connect Professional on Cloud is updated to provide similar support. The introduction of these SLAs allow these cloud-based services to be used in production with greater confidence.

  • Privacy Shield coverage

    Integration Bus on Cloud and App Connect Professional on Cloud are now included in the IBM Privacy Shield certification. For more information, see the IBM Privacy Shield Privacy Policy for Certified IBM Cloud Services website.

  • High availability for on-premise Application Integration Suite

    On-premise use of Application Integration Suite includes IBM Integration Bus Idle Standby entitlements, by allowing Integration Bus high-availability configurations in idle standby mode without requiring any additional product. The updated Application Integration Suite license that includes Integration Bus Idle Standby as a supporting program is L-DFOX-AJECCP. See the License Information documents page on the IBM Software License Agreement website for more information.

    New and existing clients can use Integration Bus Idle Standby as part of Application Integration Suite.

  • Integration Bus in IBM Bluemix® Containers

    Integration Bus for Developers is available for evaluation in a Bluemix Container Service. Integration Bus for Developers contains everything that clients need to start developing, deploying, and unit testing integration solutions. Clients can also use the image to explore the product, learn from tutorials, and evaluate the contribution that Integration Bus can make to their organization. Virtual Processor Core

Virtual Processor Core is a unit of measure by which the Cloud Service can be obtained.

A Physical Server is a physical computer that is comprised of processing units, memory, and input/output capabilities, and that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications for one or more users or client devices. Where racks, blade enclosures or other similar equipment is being employed, each separable physical device (for example, a blade or a rack-mounted device) that has the required components is considered itself a separate Physical Server.

A Virtual Server is either a virtual computer created by partitioning the resources available to a Physical Server or an unpartitioned Physical Server.

A Processor Core (commonly called a processor or CPU) is a functional unit within a computing device that interprets and executes instructions. A Processor Core consists of at least an instruction control unit, and one or more arithmetic or logic unit.

A Virtual Processor Core is a Processor Core in an unpartitioned Physical Server, or a virtual core assigned to a Virtual Server. Sufficient entitlements must be obtained for each Virtual Processor Core made available to the Cloud Service during the measurement period specified in Client's Proof of Entitlement or Transaction Document.
