  • Improved operations efficiency by extending current Event Search Analytics to rapidly search, visualize, and analyze not only event data but any IT operational data, such as network and application logs, metrics, and help desk tickets from the managed environment
  • Increased operations insight on Incident and Service Requests trends by leveraging Service Desk Ticket Analytics.

These enhanced capabilities contribute to reduction of costs and improved operational health through more productive diagnosis prioritization and resolution of IT and network operations problems across hybrid environments.

Netcool Operations Insight V1.4.1 now includes:

  • Agile Service Manager (ASM), a new optional component that enables operations teams to gain complete, up-to-date visibility and control over highly dynamic infrastructure and services, is only supported on Linux.

    In the face of growing consumer demands, efficiency, and responsiveness are more critical than ever. This enhancement to Netcool Operations Insight is designed to monitor and manage in real-time network fault and event information for network outages, network performance, quality of services that are delivered over the network, and service-level agreement compliance in a multi-vendor, multi network environment. This includes Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Networking (SDN). ASM include a new converged topology service and also corresponding integrations, known as observers that operation teams with critical context to resolve problems more effectively.

    Netcool Operations Insight capabilities, which are extended with ASM help clients to:

    • Maintain client and services views that are correlated to the underlying infrastructure.
    • Reduce operational costs while deploying virtualization.
    • Improve correlation for operational context and automation to enable service agility and faster service velocity.
    • Maintain a feedback loop between orchestration and service assurance to make service management more agile, effective, and trustworthy.

    In Version 1.4.1, easy-to-install observers include ASM integration with:

    • Openstack for the virtual infrastructure and hypervisor layer
    • Netcool Operations Insight Network Management and IBM Tivoli® Netcool Network Manager for the physical infrastructure
    • Netcool Operations Insight Operations Management and Netcool/Omnibus for ingestion of event data
    • Docker for the container layer
    • File observer to ingest data from any system

    ASM includes:

    • A graph-based Topology Service with easy-to-use REST APIs to store and retrieve data
    • A DASH-based UI that provides up-to-date visibility on your cross-domain topological data
    • The ability to maintain topological history to align with other management archives, for example, events
    • The ability to give accurate and up-to-date context to infrastructure and services related to events and incidents
    • Well documented and open REST APIs

  • Entitlement to the separate product, IBM Operations Analytics - Log Analysis, is now changed from limited to full entitlement to provide Extended Search Analytics capability.

    In this release:

    • The current Event Analytics extends the capability to rapidly search, visualize, and analyze not only events data but any IT operational data, such as network and application logs, metrics, and help desk tickets from the managed environment licensed with Netcool Operations Insight.
    • Includes full entitlement to Operations Analytics - Log Analysis that removes the previous license limitation. Current and new Netcool Operations Insight clients can take full advantage of Operations Analytics - Log Analysis capabilities, which include:
      • The ability to rapidly search across all kinds of operational data (log files, help desk data, event data, documentation, and so on) by using text analytics for rapid problem isolation
      • Content-specific visualization (graphs, charts, and so on) that are based on the type of infrastructure, application or middleware for faster problem and root cause determination
      • Recommendations to known issues through expert advice for quick problem resolution
      • Alerts about known errors and anomalies for reduction of mean time to resolution (MTTR)
      • IBM Big Insights Hadoop integration for long term storage and compliance
      • Role-based Access control for handling sensitive data
  • IBM Operations Analytics - Log Analysis uses Insight Packs and extensions to provide default dashboards, content ingestion and quick searches for handling specific log content. Some Insight Packs are provided with the product, some by direct download and others through the purchase of the required install license.

  • Extended Search Analytics with entitlement to Operations Analytics - Log Analysis Service Desk Extension
    • Service Desk Extension helps clients who have a help desk solution to:
      • Reduce their MTTR for Incidents and Service Requests.
      • Improve first-time response service levels, and user satisfaction.
    • Provides analytics on incidents and service requests that can help determine appropriate assignment of tickets to the appropriate subject matter experts. This helps in first-time ticket resolution, fewer issues that reopen, a better rating, and feedback from users. This also, helps improve user satisfaction while ensuring higher compliance of service levels.
    • Drives insights by offering analytics on help desk tickets, such as understanding Incident or Service Request hot spots and trending issues in an IT environment at a glance. This information can help Service Desk Managers to proactively plan for optimal assignment of help desk staff, subject matter experts, and automation to address key areas to improve user satisfaction and optimize IT service availability.

Licensing metric definitions

The program has embedded high availability and is licensed solely on the basis of the environment managed. For the avoidance of doubt this means that no additional entitlements are required to entitle high availability.

Where IBM DB2® is entitled for limited use by the supporting programs of Netcool Operations Insight, licensee may leverage a common DB2 install for the supporting programs within the terms of the restricted use licenses.

Managed Virtual Server

Licensee must obtain entitlement for each Virtual Server managed by the program regardless of any intermediate consolidation application. An unpartitioned physical server counts as a single virtual server. Examples of servers include, but are not limited to, servers, logical partitions, and Integrated Facility for Linux (IFL) processors.

Managed Virtual Network Device

Licensee must obtain entitlement for each Virtual Network Device managed by the program regardless of any intermediate consolidation application. An unpartitioned physical device counts as a single virtual Network Device. Examples of Network Device include, but are not limited to, switches, routers, bridges, hubs, and firewalls.

Managed Client Device

Licensee must obtain entitlement for each Client Device managed by the program regardless of any intermediate consolidation application. Examples of Client Device include, but are not limited to, actuators, appliances, automated teller machines, automatic meter readers, cash registers, disk drives, desktop computers, kiosks, notebook computers, personal digital assistant, point-of-sale terminals, sensors, smart meters, tape drives, technical workstations printers, VoIP telephones, dsl modems, cable modems, and assets such as production equipment, facilities-related items, and transportation-related items.

Smart Meter

A Smart Meter is usually an electronic device that records consumption of electric energy, natural gas, water, and so on in intervals of time and communicates that information at least daily back to the utility for monitoring and billing.

IBM Netcool Operations Insight is priced using the above metrics applied to the following components.

250,000 Smart Meters Managed Client Device

Large quantities of Smart Meters may be entitled in units of 250,000 Smart Meters. This part applies only to Smart Meters.

Telecoms 50,000 Devices Managed Device

Large quantities of virtual network devices and client devices may be entitled as units of 50,000 virtual network devices. Examples of devices in this case exclude those defined as managed virtual servers, but include all those defined in Managed Virtual Network Device and Managed Client Device above.

IBM Netcool Operations Insight Operations Management

The IBM Netcool Operations Insight Operations Management component is entitled by Managed Virtual Server, Managed Virtual Network Device, and Managed Client Device. The licensee must obtain entitlement for each Virtual Server, Virtual Network Device and Client Device managed by the program where the Operations functionality is required. Operations functionality includes Log Analysis capability.

IBM Netcool Operations Insight Network Management

The IBM Netcool Operations Insight Network Management component. This part is entitled by Managed Virtual Server, Managed Virtual Network Device, and Managed Client Device. The licensee must obtain entitlement for each Virtual Server, Virtual Network Device and Client Device managed by the program where Network Management functionality is required. This covers discovery, polling and configuration management.

IBM Netcool Operations Insight Network Performance Management

The Netcool Operations Insight Performance Management component. This part is entitled by Managed Virtual Server, Managed Virtual Network Device, and Managed Client Device. The licensee must obtain entitlement for each Virtual Server, Virtual Network Device and Client Device managed by the program where performance management functionality is required. The use of this component requires purchase of Operations Management and Network Management

IBM Netcool Operations Insight Agile Service Manager

The Netcool Operations Insight Agile Service Manager component. This part is entitled by Managed Virtual Server, Managed Virtual Network Device, and Managed Client Device. The licensee must obtain entitlement for each Virtual Server, Virtual Network Device and Client Device managed by the program where Agile Service Manager functionality is required. The use of this component requires purchase of Operations Management component to at least the same quantity.

IBM Netcool Operations Insight Connection

Each instance of an application or system integrated with the program for purposes other than event collection is considered to be a connection. Examples include, but are not limited to, use of the program's gateways, data source adapters, or API for the purposes for event archive, integration with trouble ticketing, and other operational support systems.

Integration of third-party data solely for the purpose of display requires a single connection entitlement per 10 data sources. This applies only to data that is not processed other than for display.


Pricing examples

Example 1

Customer wants to carry out fault, and enrichment management on 100 physical servers each running 6 virtual servers and 50 network devices none of which are virtualized. The Netcool Operations Insight management system is running in a highly available configuration.

The customer requires a quantity of:

  • 600 IBM Netcool Operations Insight Operations Management Managed Virtual Servers
  • 50 IBM Netcool Operations Insight Operations Management Managed Virtual Network Devices.

There is no volume reduction calculation to take place and the high availability configuration does not require any additional entitlements.

Example 2

Customer wants to fault manage and network manage to 10,000 automated meter readers and enrich the event information from data held in an IBM DB2 ® database, which has been populated by a third-party configuration system and from a billings system.

The customer requires a quantity of:

  • 10,000 IBM Netcool Operations Insight Operations Management Managed Client Devices
  • 10,000 IBM Netcool Operations Insight Network Management Managed Client Devices
  • 2 IBM Netcool Operations Insight Connections.

There are two applications being connected to configuration and billing even though a single database is being used. There are no separate parts required for ObjectServer or Impact installs.

Example 3

Customer wants all of IBM Netcool Operations Insight functionality on 30,000 routers and switches, 10,000 cable modems, 10,000 point-of-sale terminals, and 5,000 virtual servers.

The customer requires a quantity of:

  • 1 IBM Netcool Operations Insight Operations Management 50,000 Telecom Devices
  • 5000 IBM Netcool Operations Insight Operations Management Managed Virtual Servers
  • 1 IBM Netcool Operations Insight Network Management 50,000 Telecom Devices
  • 5000 IBM Netcool Operations Insight Network Management Managed Virtual Servers
  • 1 IBM Netcool Operations Insight Performance Management 50,000 Telecom Devices

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

This product is only available through Passport Advantage.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

For the optional component, Agile Service Manager:

Agile Service Manager is designed and developed using a micro service-based architecture and container-based deployment to allow customers to install, deploy and upgrade to receive function and service more rapidly with the added safeguard of a simple rollback. Therefore, IBM requires customers to stay as current on product software as possible and upgrade to the most recent Agile Service Manager mod and fixpack levels (the "M" and "F" in V.R.M.F) to ensure maximum protection and availability of the latest functions, security updates and defect fixes.

Technical support for Agile Service Manager applies only to the IBM licensed product and its components. If the product runs on an operating system that is no longer supported, or with a non IBM co-requisite or non-IBM prerequisite product that is no longer supported by the provider, IBM technical support may be limited to defects that can be replicated on currently supported environments.

Limited warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, see the IBM Software Support Handbook.

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

Money-back guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Software Subscription and Support applies

Yes. Software Subscription and Support, also referred to as Software Maintenance, is included with licenses purchased through Passport Advantage and Passport Advantage Express. Product upgrades and Technical Support are provided by the Software Subscription and Support offering as described in the Agreements. Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software, and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.

IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.

While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance by telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For additional details, see the IBM Software Support Handbook. Software Subscription and Support does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under the applicable agreements.

Unless specified otherwise in a written agreement with you, IBM does not provide support for third party products that were not provided by IBM. Ensure that when contacting IBM for covered support, you follow problem determination and other instructions that IBM provides, including in the IBM Software Support Handbook.
