Overview
Bottom rule

The WebSphere Application Server family is an innovative, performance-based application foundation for building, deploying, and managing all types of applications, to help ensure that your applications deliver on business objectives regardless of the situation. The WebSphere Application Server family provides a highly-effective performance foundation for creating and implementing agile and re-useable SOA2 applications and services.

This Smart Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) Application Foundation can help you to deliver on business objectives and contain or even reduce cost across mainframe and distributed applications and all interaction modes (for example, Web 2.0 or voice).

Only WebSphere Application Server has the three foundational attributes to enable robust and agile business applications:

  • Efficient development and management
  • Highly effective performance
  • Application innovation

The new and updated features for WebSphere Application Server V7 are intended to promote the efficient development, management, and application innovation foundational attributes.

Highlights of the new and updated V7 capabilities include:

  • Updated SCA capabilities benefit both operations and development personnel in building and managing composite applications based on SOA. SCA simplifies development and management of composite applications by moving service details out of the application and into the middleware. The developer can focus on the business logic, allowing more flexible management of composite applications that can respond to changes in the environment. Updated SCA programming model capabilities are delivered through a WebSphere Application Server V7 Feature Pack for SCA V1.0.1 Refresh.
  • XML programming model support for the W3C XML standards (XSLT 2.0, XPath 2.0, and XQuery 1.0) provides developers with innovative capabilities for simplified development of XML-based and document-centric applications. XML programming model support is delivered through a WebSphere Application Server V7 Feature Pack for XML.
  • SAML Token support for Web Services Security provides for secure, interoperable Web services. Support for OASIS SAML Token Security Profile 1.1 for Web Services Security is delivered through the WebSphere Application Server V7 Fix Pack 7 (7.0.0.7).
