Overview
Bottom rule

WebSphere Business Services Fabric, an extension to IBM WebSphere Process Server, builds and manages modular, dynamically-assembled, extensible processes. There are many benefits to taking complex processes, modularizing them into intelligent Business Services, then assembling these modules at run time.

WebSphere Business Services Fabric:

  • Extricates and makes accessible to business users formerly hard-coded process variability for easy, fast, and governed change
  • Enables new functionality to be added to a process without changing or redeploying the process
  • Separates the life cycle of individual modules and intelligent Business Services, making the manageability of complex BPM projects much easier by keeping small changes small
  • Organizes service-oriented architecture (SOA) and BPM infrastructure into shareable, reusable intelligent Business Services, for a fully-realized SOA vision of architectural agility and reuse

In general, it has been shown that WebSphere Business Services Fabric can help reduce the total cost of ownership of a complex BPM project by up to 50%, and help enable much faster reaction to change.

Note: Any performance data contained herein was determined in a controlled environment. Therefore, the results obtained in other operating environments may vary significantly. Some measurements may have been made on development-level systems and there is no guarantee that these measurements will be the same on generally available systems. Furthermore, some measurements may have been estimated through extrapolation. Actual results may vary. Users of this document should verify the applicable data for their specific environment.

WebSphere Business Services Fabric can help businesses to:

  • Quickly implement innovative new products and services without changing or redeploying core processes
  • React rapidly to new market conditions by enabling business users to make governed changes in their own processes
  • Help save costs by enabling reuse of major business capabilities across a corporation

WebSphere Industry Content Packs V7.0, packaged as part of WebSphere Business Services Fabric in prior releases, is now available as a separate product on the Windows® platform. This offering consists of prebuilt, industry-specific packs that are available for banking, insurance, healthcare, telecommunications, and industrial product life cycle management. For more information about the WebSphere Industry Content Packs, refer to Software Announcement 209-336, dated October 02, 2009.

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which this software product can be licensed. PVU entitlements are based on processor technology (defined within the PVU table1 by processor vendor, brand, type and model number). IBM continues to define a processor, for purposes of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. Each software product has a unique price per PVU. To determine the total cost of deploying an individual software product in a specific hardware environment, you must take the following steps:

  1. For each processor core in the hardware environment on which the software product is to be licensed, determine the PVU requirement based on its processor technology per the PVU table1.
  2. The PVU requirements for all processor cores in the hardware environment.
  3. Multiply the software product's price per PVU by the total number of PVUs required as determined in step 2 above.

PVU entitlements are specific to a software product and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with PVU entitlements of another software product.

Unless you have deployed eligible sub-capacity products according to the sub-capacity1 terms, you must obtain PVU Proof of Entitlements (PoEs) for the maximum number of activated2 physical processor cores in the hardware environment made available to, or managed by, the software product. This is also referred to as full capacity licensing.

1 information regarding PVU and sub-capacity licensing, including the latest PVU table, visit

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/ pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

2 processor cores are physical processor cores that are available for use in a server. They include processor cores:

  • That are activated (available for use) when the server is shipped by the manufacturer
  • That are activated subsequently through activation codes purchased from the server manufacturer by the customer
  • Whose capacity can be limited by the customer through virtualization technologies, operating system commands and BIOS settings.

Authorized user

Authorized user is the unit of measure by which this program is licensed. An authorized user is an individual (named or unnamed) within or outside of your enterprise. The program may be installed on one or more computers or servers and accessed by the number of users authorized by the Proof of Entitlement (PoE). You must have an entitlement for each authorized user accessing the program or any program component in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means.

IBM Electronic Services
Bottom rule

IBM has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to help you achieve higher system availability. Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that offers an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support available for IBM servers. These services are designed to provide the opportunity for greater system availability with faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. Electronic Services comprises two separate, but complementary, elements: Electronic Services news page and Electronic Services Agent.

The Electronic Services news page is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. The news page enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.

The Electronic Service Agent™ is no-additional-charge software that resides on your server. It monitors events and transmits system inventory information to IBM on a periodic, client-defined timetable. The Electronic Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to deliver proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent is made available to IBM service support representatives when they help answer your questions or diagnose problems. Installation and use of IBM Electronic Service Agent for problem reporting enables IBM to provide better support and service for your IBM server.
