Description
Bottom rule

IBM WebSphere Business Monitor V7.0 enables you to improve your business results by providing the ability to predict anomalous business situations and react pre-emptively rather than reactively.

Track progress and achievement of strategic goals

WebSphere Business Monitor enables you to link strategic goals of the organization to operational metrics. This enables business leaders to identify the operational metrics which impact the business strategy and which need to be captured by WebSphere Business Monitor. Business leaders use the business leader widgets to map out their strategy and their strategic goals. These strategic goals can then be linked to operational metrics, which are captured in real-time by WebSphere Business Monitor. For example, a business leader identifies a strategic goal as "improving customer satisfaction levels" and plans to implement this strategy by reducing loan processing time. This important key performance indicators (KPIs) can be captured by WebSphere Business Monitor. This KPI is exported from business leader widgets to WebSphere Business Monitor tooling to capture this key metric as part of the process improvement effort. Business leaders can track how well these operational metrics are performing and take corrective action if necessary.

Accelerate development of monitoring solutions

Advances in V7 make it easy to rapidly develop solutions to monitor processes executing on WebSphere Process Server. Enhancements:

  • WebSphere Business Modeler and WebSphere Business Monitor enhancements provide support for multi-user deployments in interactive process design allowing multiple users to test processes and monitoring using the same sandbox environment, increasing business analyst productivity, and helping accelerate line-of-business and IT collaboration and development of BPM solutions.
  • Enhancements to WebSphere Business Monitor provide WebSphere Business Monitor developers an out-of-the-box view of all executing processes and available process metrics for capture. This enables developers to quickly capture end-user requirements, and customize this quick start model to satisfy those requirements.

Increase business flexibility through flexible processes

WebSphere Process Server V7 increases business flexibility enabling users to react to changing business requirements by deploying new versions of existing processes. This enables you to migrate existing in-flight process instances to newer process versions for continued execution, either individually or universally. Enhancements in WebSphere Business Monitor provide business users a real-time view into these flexible processes enabling them to make informed decisions on managing these processes.

Accelerate and enhance delivery of monitoring solutions through WebSphere Industry Content Packs

WebSphere Industry Content Packs provide a rich set of prebuilt, industry-specific assets across the WebSphere Business Process Management offering to accelerate and enhance delivery of BPM industry solutions. These assets include industry standards based business processes, business measures, KPI templates, and dashboard templates, providing prebuilt assets for the WebSphere Business Monitor platform. WebSphere Industry Content Packs are available for insurance, banking, telecommunications, healthcare, and industrial product lifecycle management and serve as a great jumpstart for WebSphere Business Process Management solutions. For information, refer to Software Announcement 209-322, dated October 02, 2009.

Improved end-to-end process monitoring

Enhancements help IT develop end-to-end monitoring solutions to aggregate real-time information on performance of critical processes with real-time information from other parts of their business. Organizations usually have heterogeneous software environments, with many different applications handling part of the processes. WebSphere Business Monitor captures events from all these applications and provides an integrated view of the end-to-end process. This enables business users to more effectively tackle problems, increase efficiencies, and increase revenue. Enhancements to WebSphere Business Monitor V7.0 make it easier to capture events from other IBM middleware or applications. WebSphere Business Monitor can process events from the following programs:

  • CICS V4.1 -- Enables you to obtain real-time business level visibility into processes running on WebSphere Process Server with steps of the processes being executed on CICS servers. This view can also be extended to provide business level real-time visibility into critical applications running entirely on CICS.
  • WebSphere Sensor Events -- Provides business users with real-time business level visibility into critical supply chain processes and inventory levels using a combination of WebSphere Sensor Event and WebSphere Business Monitor.
  • Enhancements to WebSphere Business Monitor and WebSphere Application Adapters make it simpler and less expensive to develop monitoring applications by sending events from third-party applications, such as SAP using the WebSphere Adapter for SAP, directly to WebSphere Business Monitor. This new function reduces the solution total cost of ownership (TCO) and makes it easy to develop monitoring applications. Using this new function, developers spend less time on converting events from one format to another, enabling rapid monitoring application development.
  • IMS -- Provides real-time business level visibility into applications running on IMS, allowing leveraging existing IMS assets to develop monitoring solutions to identify business problems, correct exceptions, and optimize processes. Business competitiveness is improved with more efficient processes.
  • WebSphere Business Monitor -- Enhanced to process XML-based events over JMS queues making it simpler to instrument other applications sending events to WebSphere Business Monitor. This enables the application programmer to rapidly develop monitoring solutions without needing knowledge of WebSphere Business Monitor event formats.

Increased developer productivity for developing end-to-end process monitoring solutions using WebSphere Message Broker V7 tooling

Enhancements to WebSphere Message Broker tooling enables automated model generation for starting development of your WebSphere Business Monitor solution. Significant monitor development time is saved avoiding manual and repetitive steps, such as identifying triggers and correlating events. Additional templates provide guidance to developers for developing monitor models for events from WebSphere Message Broker.

Easier management and configuration of WebSphere Business Monitor for System z® users

  • You can federate WebSphere Business Monitor running in a Linux cell on System z into a z/OS® cell, enabling you to manage other BPM middleware running on System z and WebSphere Business Monitor running in a Linux on System z cell as a single unit. This eliminates error prone configuration steps, simplifying deployment of monitoring solutions.
  • WebSphere Business Monitor performance is improved when the database resides on System z, reducing database access time.

Rapid time to value through streamlined installation and deployment

WebSphere Business Monitor V7 delivers enhancements for easier installation and configuration, consistent across the other BPM products such as WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Business Services Fabric.

  • Wizard-driven configuration of WebSphere Business Monitor topologies help reduce errors and effort to configure monitor topologies. Templates for selected topologies help administrators optimize topologies (for example, a single cluster topology template helps administrators set up small test environments, whereas a template for a four cluster topology helps administrators set up robust production environments). Wizards can also be used to set up custom topologies. Finally, tests for installation validation can be carried to quickly identify and fix any problems with the configuration. This helps you to install and configure WebSphere Business Monitor rapidly to reduce the total cost of ownership and achieve quick return on investment.
  • Improved support for configuring user registries, streamlined data security, and validation wizards help administrators configure and maintain WebSphere Business Monitor.

                                                 (PVU)

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which this software product can be licensed. PVU entitlements are based on processor technology (defined within the PVU table* by processor vendor, brand, type and model number). IBM continues to define a processor, for purposes of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. Each software product has a unique price per PVU. To determine the total cost of deploying an individual software product in a specific hardware environment, you must take the following steps:

  1. For each processor core in the hardware environment on which the software product is to be licensed, determine the PVU requirement based on its processor technology per the PVU table*.
  2. The PVU requirements for all processor cores in the hardware environment.
  3. Multiply the software product's price per PVU by the total number of PVUs required as determined in step 2 above.

PVU entitlements are specific to a software product and may not be exchanged, interchanged, or aggregated with PVU entitlements of another software product.

Unless you have deployed eligible sub-capacity products according to the sub-capacity* terms, you must obtain PVU Proof of Entitlements (PoEs) for the maximum number of activated** physical processor cores in the hardware environment made available to, or managed by, the software product. This is also referred to as full capacity licensing.

*For information regarding PVU and sub-capacity licensing, including the latest PVU table, visit

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html

**Activated processor cores are physical processor cores that are available for use in a server. They include processor cores:

  • That are activated (available for use) when the server is shipped by the manufacturer.
  • That are activated subsequently through activation codes purchased from the server manufacturer by the customer.
  • Whose capacity can be limited by the customer through virtualization technologies, operating system commands and BIOS settings.

IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Sub-capacity pricing terms and conditions

To be eligible for sub-capacity pricing, the machine on which the eligible products are installed and running must be eligible for sub-capacity pricing terms and conditions. Software pricing, at less than full machine capacity for eligible products, apply when running:

  • AIX 5L™ V5.1, or later, on an IBM System p® 690 or equivalent partition-capable operating system and machine
  • OS/400® V5R1, or later, running on an IBM System i®
  • Linux running in an LPAR under AIX 5L V5.1, OS/400 V5R1, or in a partition on an equivalent partition-capable operating system and server

Sub-capacity pricing for eligible products is based on the current program pricing methodology, but the number of processors will be determined based on the sum of processors for all partitions where the program is defined (used). To obtain pricing at less than full machine capacity for eligible products, you are required to:

  • Install and use, when available, IBM's license use management program, which installs with eligible IBM programs.
  • Install available updates to the operating system and eligible products such that license use can be accurately managed.
  • Determine if the use of sub-capacity pricing terms results in a reduced requirement for entitlements; you can reallocate the entitlement difference by distributing entitlements across a larger or different set of systems, or reserve them for future growth. There will be no refunds for these freed up entitlements. Subscription, Software Maintenance and support volumes, and entitlements for existing contracts will continue at the same levels as the acquired licenses.
