Alongside the launch of Linear Tape-Open™ (LTO™) Ultrium™ Generation 8 tape drives, IBM® plans to introduce multiple options for initializing M8 media to enable new LTO 7 cartridge capacity to be increased by up to 50% on LTO Gen 8 drives. Customers who purchase new LTO Gen 7 cartridges initialized as M8 media will be able to store up to 22.5 TB* of data.

*Assumes a 2.5 to 1 compression achieved with larger compression history buffer available beginning with LTO Gen 6 drives.
