Overview

Top rule

UrbanCode Deploy delivers product scalability and capabilities for enterprises that are rapidly advancing their IT transformation. With version 7.0.1, UrbanCode Deploy helps you to deploy every application in your enterprise with consistency, security, visibility, lower cost, and at the scale you need.

New in UrbanCode Deploy V7.0.1:

  • Server-agent communication mass enablement for agents. Before the release of UrbanCode Deploy V7, the managing server's acceptable performance peaked at approximately 8,000 agents. A re-write of server-agent communication enables the UrbanCode Deploy server to scale to manage tens of thousands of agents. For most organizations, this new capacity can create efficiencies where only one UrbanCode Deploy managing server is required. With version 7.0.1, it is now possible to update any number of agents quickly and easily to the new server-agent communication.
  • Mixed-mode licensing. With version 7.0.1 of UrbanCode Deploy, it is possible to use server-agent and simultaneous sessions license modes (also known as concurrent sessions) with one UrbanCode Deploy server. It is no longer necessary to have a homogeneous license model. Read about License Scenarios in the UrbanCode Deploy in IBM Knowledge Center.
  • Safe Edit Beta Phase 2. Based on Phase 1 beta feedback, this enhanced capability enables your teams to safely write new deployment processes and refinements to existing processes without interfering with deployment versions in use.
  • Resource Tree Import/Export. This capability makes it possible to import an existing UrbanCode Deploy Resource Tree for use in another UrbanCode Deploy Server.
  • UrbanCode Deploy container updates. As of version 7.0, UrbanCode Deploy container images and Helm charts are available with UrbanCode Deploy. This release adds support for scaling the number of UrbanCode Deploy server instances either up or down to meet the needs of users. In addition, this release extends support for IBM Cloud™ Private V3.1.
  • UrbanCode Blueprint Designer -- Terraform Enhancements. Version 7.0.1 brings numerous updates and enhancements for Terraform support. These include updates to the Terraform extensions to handle more complex UrbanCode Deploy deployment scenarios; several updates to Terraform design and cloud content; and improved integration with IBM Cloud Automation Manager. Additionally, an initial tech preview of Terraform provisioning support is available.
  • Updated plug-ins:
    • New IBM Application Security on Cloud plug-in.
    • New Sybase plug-in integrates with SAP ASE, originally known as Sybase SQL Server, which is a relational database server. The plug-in uses the Interactive SQL parser (sql) utility to integrate with Sybase and execute SQL commands.

Specified operating environment

Hardware requirements

Disk space: 300 MB, or more.

Memory: The server process needs a static 2 GB of available RAM. Extra memory is required for each agent. This means that the sum of 2 GB RAM and 4 MB multiplied by 800 agents is equal to approximately 5 GB RAM.

Network adapters, drivers, and protocols: 1000 GB required. Ethernet with low latency to the database.

Processor: The server needs approximately double the CPU capacity of a relay. Given the number of agents (800) and two cores per 500 agents on the relay, the recommendation is an 8-core machine available for the server.

Storage hardware: Individual requirements depend on usage, retention policies, and application types. In general, the larger the number of artifacts kept in UrbanCode Deploy's artifact repository (CodeStation), the more storage that is needed.

Note: CodeStation is installed when the deploy server is installed.

For production environments, 10 - 20 GB of database storage should be sufficient for most environments.

To calculate the CodeStation storage requirements: Use the average artifact size times the number of versions that are imported per day, times the average number of days before cleanup. Approximately 1 MB per deployment of database storage is required. It varies based on local requirements.

Statement of good security practices

Top rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through intrusion prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a regulatory compliant, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
