Overview

Top rule

SUSE Linux® Enterprise Server (SLES) is a highly reliable, scalable, and secure server operating system available for IBM® Power Systems™. It is built to power mission-critical workloads in physical, virtual, and cloud environments.

With this announcement, IBM is making five-year subscription options available for both IBM SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 for Power® and IBM SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications for Power.

For more information on SLES 12 for Power, see Software Announcement ZP17-0131, dated March 14, 2017.

Program delivery

When you order SUSE Linux Enterprise Server from IBM, you get an entitlement card with a registration code shipped from IBM Software Manufacturing. You will use this code to download and configure the software.

Note: This entitlement card ships separately from the Power System.

Support requirement

If you purchase or renew SUSE subscriptions, you can also purchase support directly from IBM or SUSE. Selecting IBM Support allows for a unified support strategy for all Power Systems products. Linux operating system support can be purchased in the following ways:

  • Clients who select IBM Support should not select the SUSE combined Subscription and Support features that IBM offers.
  • Clients who want SUSE support should select one of the SUSE combined Subscription and Support features that IBM offers.
  • Five-year subscription options are now offered with support from either IBM or SUSE.

Every SUSE subscription-only offering includes IBM Support access to SUSE technical resources in the event that IBM needs SUSE's assistance in problem determination and resolution. In order to ensure that SUSE resources are available to assist IBM throughout the hours of support, IBM is providing clients with the appropriate subscription-only offering. If clients are purchasing IBM Support with IBM support coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, they must purchase a SUSE Priority Subscription offering. Clients who are purchasing IBM Support without 24-hour access to IBM may purchase a SUSE Standard Subscription offering.

Statement of good security practices

Top rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through intrusion prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a regulatory compliant, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
