Overview

IBM TS7770 is the seventh generation of IBM virtual tape system technology, delivering next-level cybersecurity while maintaining the reliability and availability of the mainframe enterprise storage platform to support business across hybrid multicloud deployments. TS7770 optimizes data protection and business continuance for IBM Z data while improving storage economics, system resiliency, and data stability for mission-critical workloads.

TS7770 is built on the IBM POWER9 platform and includes the following:

  • Two 10 core, 3.8 GHz processors
  • 64 GB DDR4 Memory
  • 16 Gb FICON (up to 4 adapters, 2 ports per adapter, 512 paths per port)
  • 1 Gb Copper and 10 Gb LW grid network (up to 4 ports total)
  • 4 x 16 Gb FC attachment to disk cache and tape drives (up to 16 ports)
  • SSD or SAS for pSeries storage

Product Preview

In the first half of 2020, IBM intends to release a second expansion frame for the TS7770. This second expansion frame will deliver a maximum capacity of 3.9 PB for one base frame with two fully populated expansion frames.

In the first half 2020, IBM also intends to release an iRPQ for the clients to install a TS7770 into their own customer-supplied 19-inch rack. This iRPQ-8B3721 will enable clients to order one TS7770 Server 3957 Model VED, one Cache Controller 3956 Model CSB, and one Cache Module Model XSB, as well as all other associated features to be installed in their own customer supplied rack.

Overview

Cloudera Edge Management (CEM) is an edge management solution made up of edge agents and an edge management hub. It manages, controls, and monitors edge agents to collect data from edge devices and push intelligence back to the edge.

Cloudera Edge Management consists of two components:

  • Apache MiNiFi is a lightweight edge agent that implements the core features of Apache NiFi, focusing on data collection and processing at the edge.
  • Edge Flow Manager (EFM) is an agent management hub that supports a graphical flow-based programming model to develop, deploy, and monitor edge flows on thousands of MiNiFi agents.

Cloudera Edge Management provides three main capabilities to the edge flow lifecycle:

  • Flow Authorship: Edge Flow Manager addresses the challenge of developing IoT applications by offering a code free drag and drop development environment. This development environment offers a NiFi like experience for capturing, filtering, transforming, and transferring data from edge agents to upstream enterprise systems like CDH.
  • Flow Deployment: Managing the deployment of IoT applications has been an industry challenge. Edge Flow Manager alleviates this challenge by offering a simple, yet powerful, model for deploying flows to agents. Agents registered with Edge Flow Manager are notified when a new or modified flow is available. The agents will access the flow and apply it locally.
  • Flow Monitoring: Agents in Cloudera Edge Management send periodic heartbeats to their Edge Flow Manager instance. The heartbeat contains information about the deployment and runtime metrics. Edge Flow Manager stores, analyzes, and renders these heartbeats to end users. The heartbeats allows operators to visualize details such as flow throughput, connection depths, processors running, and overall agent health.

Hortonworks Data Lifecycle Manager (DLM) is a DataPlane application that protects your data and the security policies associated with it through replication. This application empowers system administrators to replicate HDFS and Hive data from on-premises cluster to cloud storage. Replication of the Hive database from a cluster with underlying HDFS to another cluster with cloud storage is supported. Data Lifecycle Manager protects Data-at-Rest (TDE) and Data-in-Motion (TLS) and provides support for multiple key management service (KMS) and encryption keys.

Version 1.5 provides the following new features:

  • External table replication
  • Acid table replication
  • Trusted proxy
  • Statistics replication
  • Command line interface support
  • Replication progress status

Hortonworks Data Steward Studio (DSS) is a DataPlane Service that empowers users to understand, secure, and govern data across enterprise data lakes. Data Steward Studio empowers enterprises to identify and evaluate the integrity of their data in order to securely collaborate and confidently democratize it across the enterprise. Data Steward Studio enables enterprises to contextualize knowledge about the data located across hybrid data lakes which empowers them to generate actionable insights and take meaningful actions about their business operations.

Version 1.5 provides the following new features:

  • Ability to search and filter asset collections based on column tags.
  • Ability to enable or disable Cluster Sensitivity Profiler - system sensitivity detection rules.
  • Ability to view match percentage of top five matching tags for each column of an asset.

Hortonworks Data Analytics Studio (DAS) enables IT teams to scale to business requirements by providing diagnostic tools and intelligent recommendations to make business analysts become self-sufficient and productive. Data Analytics Studio helps users perform operations on Hive tables and provides recommendations for optimizing the performance of their queries. With DAS, business analysts can search for queries, compose and execute queries, manage databases to create and edit tables, view reports and recommendations to optimize the query performance.

Cloudera Enterprise Data Hub is a modern platform for machine learning and analytics and capable of scaling to the needs of the enterprise. This offering is purpose-built for unifying data resources and data workloads, and optimizing on-premises, cloud, or hybrid environments. Cloudera HDP Search is a full-text search server, designed for enterprise-level performance, flexibility, scalability, and fault-tolerance. HDP Search exposes REST-like HTTP/XML and JSON APIs for use with a wide range of programming languages. Version 5.0 provides support for Apache Solr 7.4.

This release also introduces a new licensing model called Committed Term License.

Committed term licenses are a new license type for IBM® clients. Like monthly licenses, committed term licenses enable clients to purchase licenses to IBM software in a cloud-centric model. This new licensing method aligns to cloud-centered consumption models and is currently available for:

  • Cloudera Edge Management
  • Cloudera HDP Search
  • Hortonworks Data Analytics Studio
  • Hortonworks Data Lifecycle Manager
  • Hortonworks Data Steward Studio
  • Hortonworks DataFlow Enterprise
  • Hortonworks Data Platform
  • IBM Data Management Platform for Open Source Databases

As organizations adopt multicloud architectures for their most critical applications, an alignment of pricing and consumption models becomes of utmost importance.

Committed term licenses provide a new model to procure IBM software, designed and priced to:

  • Make it easier for organizations to acquire IBM software
  • Align consumption models and spend to those clients accustomed to cloud-based solutions
  • Align with the Red Hat subscription model to deliver a consistent buying experience across both product portfolios

Committed term licenses will be available for new license sales and as an upgrade from existing investments in IBM software, referred to as committed term license upgrades. For new license sales or expansion of existing IBM software licenses, committed term licenses can be procured for a minimum of 12 months. Both offerings can be billed upfront, annually, quarterly, or monthly, depending upon client preferences.

For committed term upgrades, clients can leverage their qualifying active Subscription and Support to convert to a committed term license upgrade. Clients will be required to suspend the prior license during the term of the committed term license upgrade. Clients can cancel at the end of the term or renew the committed term license upgrade. If clients choose to cancel at the end of the committed term, they have the option to reinstate the applicable suspended licenses and resume IBM Software Subscription and Support at then current prices.

IBM and H2O.ai collaborate to enable you to order Driverless AI, the automated machine learning platform from H20.ai, directly from IBM . IBM offers you Driverless AI from H2O.ai with a new pricing option for licensing Driverless AI based on the number of GPUs on your IBM Power Systems server. Program number 5639-DA1 provides a license option based on the number of GPUs in the server. This option can only be ordered on Power Systems servers with GPUs.

Driverless AI V1.8 provides the following capabilities:

  • Automated feature engineering, model selection, tuning, and deployment
  • Easy on-ramp for deploying machine learning on Power Systems
  • Machine learning interpretability to create easy-to-follow visualization and explanations of models
  • NVLink that is GPU-optimized on Power Systems for accelerated data ingest, feature engineering, and training times for rapid development and deployment
  • Currently targets common regression algorithms and binomial and multinomial classification applications

In addition, a set of three-year and five-year subscription options are added for a single authorized user, three authorized users, and GPU-based servers.

  • Access REST APIs in CICS® environments using EGL applications.
  • Explore IBM Rational Business Developer V9.6 to convert data into JSON format using COBOL V6 APIs in EGL generated COBOL programs.

The functions in Version 9.6 are derived from an iterative Design Thinking collaboration. The requirements represent the real and relevant capabilities of rapid business application development, using EGL for novice to expert programmers. Overview

Organizations need container technology and associated orchestration and management platforms to build and then deploy modern cloud-native applications. To enable organizations to help protect and integrate their IT investments into their cloud-native development strategies, IBM delivered z/OS® Cloud Broker V1.0 so they can access and deploy z/OS services onto a Kubernetes-based cloud platform.
