Overview

The Power System LC922 server is designed to deliver superior performance and meet the open source workload data requirements being driven by the AI era. It is the server of choice for clients that want compute capabilities enabled by POWER9, scaling efficiency with the POWER9 advanced I/O, and ample storage capacity to contain the AI data volumes. Additionally, the server is simple to order and cost-optimized, and can scale from single racks to large clusters with a simple deployment.

The Power LC922 server supports one or two processor sockets, offering 16-core (2.91 GHz) or 20-core (2.70 GHz) or 22-core (2.6 GHz) POWER9 configurations in a 19-inch rack-mount, 2U (EIA units) drawer configuration. No mixing of processors is allowed.

The Power LC922 server provides two hot-swap and redundant power supplies and two, four, six, eight, twelve, or sixteen DIMM memory slots. Supported memory features are 8 GB (#EKMA), 16 GB (#EKMF), 32 GB (#EKMG), 64 GB (#EKMD), and 128 GB (#EKME). No mixing of memory is allowed.

The Power LC922 server also offers:

Overview

Elastic Storage Server Hybrid models place spinning disks and flash storage in a single Elastic Storage Server (ESS) node, giving better storage density and a smaller footprint at a lower cost.

The new IBM® ESS Hybrid models combine the speed and low latency of flash storage with the density and affordability of spinning disk. One ESS can provide the storage for a wide diversity of workloads, including genomics, high-speed burst buffer, video streaming, machine learning, metadata services, and AI. The new models, known as GH14 and GH24, provide up to 3.3 PB of raw spinning disk combined with up to 720 TB of flash storage.

In addition, the Enterprise Slim Rack is made available as on option on all ESS orders. This rack provides an excellent 19-inch enclosure for your data center. Its 600 mm (23.6 in.) width enables it to be easily located on standard 24-inch floor tiles and provides thermal and cable management capabilities.

Overview

Storage Insights, a new application in the Storage Insights family, is a no-cost support tool that delivers a common monitoring platform to all organizations that have IBM block storage devices. These IBM block-based devices can include IBM FlashSystem®, IBM Storwize®, and IBM System Storage® DS8000® models as well IBM SAN Volume Controller and IBM XIV® Storage System, including current and legacy devices.

Now, you can easily monitor the health, performance, and capacity of these IBM devices from a single place in the IBM secure ISO 27K certified cloud. With the collection of over 100 metrics from IBM devices, you can see the performance of the storage resources for your critical applications and storage systems, which helps you to investigate, detect, and resolve performance issues. IBM Support can grab diagnostic log packages by themselves so the administrator no longer needs to find, collect, and transmit the logs during a support call.

IBM Storage Insights Pro, formerly known as IBM Spectrum Control™ Storage Insights, provides capabilities to help optimize your infrastructure. Storage Insights Pro includes everything in Storage Insights. In addition, it permits you to customize alert notifications to help you focus on storage infrastructures issues that require immediate attention. Advanced capabilities in Storage Insights Pro also include planning tools to help reclaim unused storage and to optimize data placement on the right storage tier with tier planning insights.

IBM AIX® now runs fully virtualized on the Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor, including networking and storage.

AIX 7.2 TL 2, or later, will be the minimum required version for the IBM Hyperconverged Systems powered by Nutanix (CS series). AIX on IBM Hyperconverged Systems is binary compatible with AIX on IBM PowerVM®.

Overview

With recent enhancements, it is now possible to run AIX 7.2 TL 2 SP2, or later, on IBM Hyperconverged Systems powered by Nutanix IBM CS821 and IBM CS822 server nodes. AIX can be ordered with CS821 or CS822 servers using the AIX monthly subscription model provided through IBM Passport Advantage® (PA: D1S5GLL). For ease of deployment, AIX "cloud ready," raw disk images are available. These images can be used directly for VM deployments on CS series nodes.

AIX runs fully virtualized on the Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor, including storage and networking. Its VM lifecycle is managed with Prism. IBM Hyperconverged Systems support is integrated into the same AIX 7.2 distribution that also runs on PowerVM platforms, and it is binary compatible with AIX running on PowerVM.
