IBM Cloud™ Pak for Automation delivers a robust, end-to-end solution for business automation needs within the clients' enterprise. In the current competitive marketplace, digital companies use software automation to achieve higher revenue per employee than their traditional counterparts. Automation can maximize revenue per employee by reinventing the client experience while reducing costs.

Cloud Pak for Automation delivers an integrated and managed collection of on-premises or containerized IBM® Automation Platform for Digital Business services that enable rapid deployment and reduce operational costs. Cloud Pak for Automation also digitizes all aspects of business operations and can extend the workforce with digital labor that enable businesses to scale.

Cloud Pak for Automation V19.0.3 delivers the following enhanced capabilities:

  • Simplified installation, updating, and upgrading of the Cloud Pak for Automation, which is based on Kubernetes operator pattern
  • A new integrated designer, Digital Worker designer, in IBM Business Automation Studio
  • Two, new ready-to-use platform toolkits, in the new Application Designer Component:
    • Content services
    • Decision services
  • Improved user application designer experience to make it easier to configure custom UI views that are provided by the platform toolkits and custom toolkits
  • A new Content Analyzer Application Designer, in Business Automation Studio

Cloud Pak for Automation V19.0.3 also delivers two new components:

  • IBM Automation Digital Worker. Transforms classical workforces into hybrid workforces composed of human workers and digital workers. This frees employees to do higher valued work. This augments them to help do their jobs better.
  • IBM Automation Workstream Services. Helps businesses to complete work efficiently and collaborate effectively by enabling them to easily configure productivity services at runtime without a dependency on IT.

Cloud Pak for Automation V19.0.3 is also optimized to operate on Red Hat OpenShift container platform.

IBM introduced a new license type, committed term license, for Cloud Pak for Automation. Like monthly licenses, committed term licenses enable clients to purchase IBM software in a cloud-centric model. This new purchasing model aligns to cloud-centered consumption models. Cloud Pak for Automation V19.0.3 delivers:

  • Two, new ready-to-use platform toolkits:
    • Content services

      Clients can enrich their low-code applications with content. The content services toolkit for Business Automation Studio Application Designer provides the following capabilities:

      • A list view for showing documents and folders that includes configuration settings, a toolbar, context menus, navigation breadcrumb, and paging controls
      • A viewer to view documents
      • A properties view for viewing and updating properties, and to add and edit document

    • Decision services

      Clients can enrich their low-code applications with flexible decisions. Through an optional decisions toolkit for Business Automation Studio Application Designer, developers can consume decisions that are deployed in IBM Operational Decision Manager (ODM). It enables them to manage the lifecycle of important decisions separately from their applications. The toolkit provides the following capabilities:

      • List decisions that are deployed in ODM to select a decision for subscribing.
      • Map inputs and outputs of the decision to variables of the application.
      • Package custom actions that can be used to consume such remote decisions in runtime applications.

  • Improved user Application Designer experience that makes it easier to configure custom UI views that is provided by the platform toolkits and custom toolkits.
  • Automation Digital Worker

    Automation Digital Worker delivers a new perspective to artificial intelligence (AI) and automation by focusing on human workers (employees) to help them do their job better and to increase their added value. Their job is assessed by determining the activities that:

    • Are critical.
    • Require AI support.
    • Determine when the employee is wasting time.

    This capability defines the concept of a digital worker who is assigned to a job. The job is made up of activities that reflect what humans do in that job. When a digital worker is assigned to a job, it empowers employees in the same role by:

    • Providing recommendations
    • Preparing documents and information to streamline decisions (an AI-augmented employee)
    • Helping to decrease the time spent on low-value activities by automating whenever it is appropriate

    Digital workers orchestrate skills to augment employees or automate activities. The offering comes with skill templates that can be configured and shared. For example, skills are defined by:

    • Making sense of information
      • Classify and extract information from documents with Business Automation Content Analyzer.
      • Send text classification with IBM Watson® Natural Language Classifier.
      • Send text translation with IBM Watson Language Translation.
    • Making decisions
      • Make decisions with ODM.
      • Make predictions with IBM Watson Machine Learning.
    • Taking specific actions.
      • Send and receive emails.
      • Automate screen actions with IBM Robotic Process Automation (RPA) with Automation Anywhere.
      • Start a workflow with Business Automation Workflow.

    Clients and partners can add skills by using the Skill SDK, and then take advantage of other intelligent services and interact with their enterprise applications. With these skills, digital workers can take full advantage of the Digital Business Automation and the Watson™ capabilities to support clerical, expert, and management jobs.

    When a digital worker is used by team of employees to share job activities, it is critical that the line of business (LOB):

    • Can monitor its activity, its performance, its business impact.
    • Can control some behaviors to prevent drifts.

    Automation Digital Worker provides the ability to:

    • Monitor views.
    • Schedule capabilities, such as regularly doing an activity, and reading email every 10 minutes.
    • Set up guardrails to define clear limits on the digital worker's scope.

      Guardrails keep digital workers on track, within their business scope, within accepted confidence levels, and can check historical data to detect potential drifts. For example, a guardrail can be defined by verifying the percentage of rejected loans for the last 24 hours does not exceed 40%. The LOB knows that is typically 20% and when 40% is reached, it signals that there is an issue somewhere. If such a limit is reached, the digital worker should route all the loan requests to a manual process until the LOB and IT have verified and fixed the issues that led to the drift. As business changes, these guardrails can be adapted and their value can be changed at runtime by the LOB.

    • Send events with technical and business data to the Business Automation Insights data lake. The data can then be used to monitor the digital worker and to learn and improve business activities.
    • Provide technical dashboards and access to business dashboards that can display trends and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor the business impact with the introduction of a digital worker into a workforce.

  • Automation Workstream Services
    • Enables business users to use productivity services to help them complete their activities efficiently and collaborate effectively to optimize their time against the growing work demand.
    • Productivity services can be configured, saved, and shared without either a dependency on IT or rigorous development lifecycle. This provides the business with greater agility to define and perform work. Productivity services can either be used independently or to augment work being performed when using a workflow solution.
    • With this release, a set of pre-defined productivity services are provided to enable business users to:
      • Manage approvals.
      • Ensure required actions are complete.
      • Coordinate activities with their co-workers.

  • Business Automation Content Analyzer
    • Content Analyzer Application Designer for Business Automation Studio Application Designer provides the following capabilities:
      • Open Content Analyzer design tool where clients can train the ontology to classify documents and identify key values
      • Call Content Analyzer actions that can be used to compose applications to classify documents and extract data

Revised technical information for Datacap available with Cloud Pak for Automation

The following text revises the capabilities for Datacap in Cloud Pak for Automation V19.0.2 and V19.0.3

Datacap streamlines the capture of business documents and accurately classifies and extracts important data for use by business users and applications. Cloud Pak for Automation includes the Datacap with Insight® Edition add-on, email, electronic documents, and fax connectors.

Datacap includes:

  • Multi-channel input from scanners, email servers, file systems, fax servers, and content systems that include FileNet® Content Manager and Content Manager (CM8)
  • Web user interface in IBM Content Navigator that scans, indexes, classifies, and verifies documents
  • Adaptable rules-based workflow for sequencing document input, processing, output, and exception processing step
  • REST API that allows applications and RPA robots to call Datacap to process documents
  • Mobile application and SDK for capturing photos of documents, on-device data extraction, and uploading to Datacap servers
  • Input and output file format conversions
  • Image and PDF text extraction using multiple recognition engines
  • Classification of documents and pages
  • Business data extraction from documents

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage , where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

Software Maintenance

This program is licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

  • You will be notified, through an announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with six months' notice.

The end of support dates as previously announced for each individual program included within this offering will be honored by IBM .

Product upgrades provide the latest versions and releases to entitled software, and Technical Support provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations, worldwide.

IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support with each program license acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.

While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance by telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For additional details, see the IBM Support Guide . Software Subscription and Support does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under the applicable agreements.
