Overview
Bottom rule

IBM® MQ V8.0 is a messaging and middleware product offering that is available on multiple platforms, such as Windows™, Linux™, and z/OS®. With the release of MQ for HPE NonStop V8.0, MQ V8 functionality is now offered on the HPE Integrity NonStop platform for both the NonStop X servers and NonStop i servers. The previous release of MQ for the NonStop platform, IBM WebSphere® MQ for HP NonStop Server V5.3, is only available on NonStop i servers.

There are some key differences between MQ for HPE NonStop V8 and MQ V8 on other platforms. The product design takes advantage of key features of the HPE NonStop server architecture and includes the following specific features:

  • Support for both the NSX and NSI platform
  • Support for both 32-bit and 64-bit native applications
  • Support for OSS and Guardian applications
  • Data storage in Transaction Management Facility (TMF) protected Enscribe files
  • Transactional support provided by TMF
  • MQ non-native TNS language support with greater memory headroom than in the WebSphere MQ for HP NonStop Server V5.3
  • Support for all the WebSpher MQ for HP NonStop Server V5.3 native languages with additional support for the native pTAL language
  • Support for modern PUT multi-threading
  • Default Fault Tolerant Mode for high availability
  • Bundled MQ client feature with TMF integration
  • Richer Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS) event handling
  • TCP/IP transport configurable by channel and listener

MQ for HPE NonStop V8 is packaged with both MQ Server and MQ Client for the HPE NonStop platform. The licensing cost is the same whether you deploy the MQ Client or the MQ Server on a system.

Applications that are written for WebSphere MQ for HP NonStop Server V5.3 will run on IBM MQ for HPE NonStop V8.0.

Initially, support for MQ for HPE NonStop V8.0 is only available through the IBM continuous delivery support model. Once IBM MQ for HPE NonStop V8.0 has achieved functional parity with WebSphere MQ for HP Server V5.3, IBM intends that support will move to the long term support model.

Unlike MQ V8 on other platforms, MQ V8 on HPE NonStop does not come packaged with product extensions, such as MQ Advanced Message Security, MQ Managed File Transfer, and MQ Telemetry.

Description
Bottom rule

MQ for HPE NonStop V8 builds on the value and capabilities that were provided by previous versions of MQ on the NonStop platform. Native applications that use WebSphere MQ for HP NonStop Server V5.3 will continue to run on this latest version with one change to an environment variable. For the first time, there is support for the HPE NonStop X platform and also the HPE NonStop i platform. Many of the features of MQ V8 on other platforms are available, but there are differences specific to the implementation of MQ for HPE NonStop V8.

HPE NonStop features

  • High availability and failover. One key feature for MQ on HPE NonStop is high availability and failover with the Version 8 offering active-passive failover. Automatic failover is supported for client connections and channels from other queue managers. To recover from failover, the passive queue manager restarts automatically in a different CPU on the same system or in a different CPU on an expand node.
  • Multi-CPU support. MQ Queue Managers run in a single CPU with most internal queue manager processes that are assigned to run in that CPU. However, applications and most MQ tooling can run in any CPU. The application bindings use Guardian interprocess messages for communication (IPC).
  • Bindings support. MQ for HPE NonStop V8 supports three different types of application bindings:
    • Shared bindings are only available when the applications run on the same CPU as the MQ Queue Manager and internally use shared memory.
    • Isolated bindings use socket-based communications between the applications and queue manager.
    • Guardian bindings use the HPE NonStop Guardian-based interprocess messages for communication between applications and Queue Manager.
  • Data storage. MQ for HPE NonStop V8.0 stores all dynamic data in audited Enscribe files. This ensures integrity and availability for this file data.
  • MQ Client. The MQ client feature allows application programs to connect to remote queue managers that use the MQ client MQI and configuration. This feature is similar to that provided by the previous, stand-alone NonStop MQ Client. Deployment of the MQ Client on the HPE NonStop platform requires the same licensing as the MQ Server. The MQ client feature only supports native application programs. There is no support for making MQ client connections in the non-native TNS environment.
  • MQGET MQGMO_SET_SIGNAL API feature. The MQGMO_SET_SIGNAL option allows an MQ application program to request a notification when a message is available to be read from a queue. MQ for HPE NonStop V8.0 supports the MQGET SET_SIGNAL feature in the same way as WebSphere MQ for HP NonStop Server V5.3.
  • Queue Manager events mapped to Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS). MQ for HPE NonStop V8.0 can optionally issue more detailed EMS messages than were available in WebSphere MQ for HP NonStop Server V5.3.
  • User name mapping. MQ V8 on other platforms defines user names to be up to 12 characters long. MQ for HPE NonStop V8 defines user names to be of the form GRP.USER, where the maximum length can be 32 characters.

Delivery and support model

This release of MQ for HPE NonStop V8.0 uses the IBM continuous delivery support model to ensure that all key function that is provided in WebSphere MQ for HP NonStop Server V5.3.1 will also be made available in Version 8.0.x. A long term support model for the initial Version 8.0 offering is not available. Clients who adopt MQ for HPE NonStop V8.0 must follow the continuous delivery support model, which includes the installation of subsequent Version 8.0.x modification level updates to keep their MQ environment current. Once Version 8.0.x achieves functional parity with Version 5.3.1, IBM intends that long term support with defect fixes provided via fixpacks will then be made available.

Accessibility by people with disabilities

A US Section 508 Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT), containing details about accessibility compliance, can be found on the IBM Accessibility website.

Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act

IBM MQ V8.0 for HPE NonStop is capable as of June 23, 2017, when used in accordance with associated IBM documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it.

U.S. Section 508 Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) contains details on accessibility compliance.

IBM MQ for HPE NonStop 5724-A39 Processor Value Unit

Processor Value Unit

Processor Value Unit (PVU) is a unit of measure by which the Program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the Processor Value Unit (PVU) licensing for Distributed Software website) and the number of processors made available to the Program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.

Notes

  • Some programs may require licenses for the Program and what is being managed. In that case, the following applies. In addition to the entitlements required for the Program directly, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this Program sufficient to cover the processor cores for the systems on which the resources managed or processed by the Program reside.
  • Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only. In that case, the following applies. Instead of the entitlements required for the Program directly, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this Program sufficient to cover the processor cores for the systems on which the resources managed or processed by the Program reside.
  • A few programs on an exception basis may be licensed on a referenced basis. In that case, the following applies. Rather than obtaining entitlements for the activated processor cores available to the Program, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this Program sufficient to cover the environment made available to the Referenced Program as if the Program itself were executing everywhere the Referenced Program was executing, independent of the basis on which the Referenced Program is licensed.

Terms and conditions
Bottom rule

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

This product is only available through Passport Advantage.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Support lifecycle policy updates

MQ for HPE NonStop V8.0 uses a continuous delivery (CD) support model. Following the initial release of Version 8.0, new function and enhancements will be made available by incremental updates within the same Version 8.0 and release.

The new support model is implemented as follows:

  • The CD support model allows MQ products to make new function available more frequently.
  • Clients must stay up to date with the installation of updates to obtain the latest maintenance and new function. Product defect fixes, security updates, and new function are only available for the two most current CD updates. If required, individual product fixes can be made available between update packages for resolution of problems.
  • Both new function and service will be made available in a single, easy-to-install update package as modification level updates.
  • Update packages are delivered on the latest product release stream when the new release becomes available.
  • Support is available for all IBM components of a product until the product is withdrawn from support.
  • Support extensions are available, for a minimum period of one year for an additional fee, following effective support discontinuance date of the product.

For support of MQ for HPE NonStop V8.0:

  • New functionality, security updates, and defect fixes will be made available through CD releases. Additional support will be made available, as necessary, through iFixes on only the two most recent CD releases. IBM expects that customers will upgrade to the latest CD release in order to receive on-going security updates and defect fixes.
  • Predictable support is provided through CD releases and iFixes for a minimum period of two years from the general availability date of this initial Version 8.0 release, with the option of a minimum one-year extension of support available for an additional fee. This follows the IBM standard CD support model. Once the Version 8.0.x CD release achieves functional parity with Version 5.3.1, then IBM intends that the product will move to a long term support model.

Statement of good security practices
Bottom rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through intrusion prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a regulatory compliant, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
