Description

Power Systems Private Cloud Solution with Dynamic Capacity

The Power Systems Private Cloud Solution delivers enhancements to improve its Shared Utility Capacity (Pools 2.0) environment, extending its support for multisystem resource sharing and by-the-minute consumption of on-premises compute resources to clients deploying and managing a private cloud infrastructure on POWER9™ systems. These are the core components to this offering.

Power Enterprise Pools 2.0 supports up to 2,000 VMs and 1,000 VMs per HMC

A maximum of 2,000 VMs and up to 48 systems can be supported in a pool managed by a single Cloud Management Console (CMC), with up to 1,000 VMs supported per Hardware Management Console (HMC) managing a Power Enterprise Pool 2.0. For 1,000 VMs per HMC, HMC 950 PTF MH01883 (x86_64) or MH01884 (ppc64le) is required.

A single Power Capacity Credit order may be allocated across multiple Power Enterprise Pools (2.0)

As clients have deployed multiple Power Enterprise Pools with IBM Power Systems E980 servers and as the Power Private Cloud Solution was extended to IBM Power Systems E950, S922, and S924 servers, clients have requested the ability to procure a quantity of Power Capacity Credits that may be utilized over time for more than a single pool. Now, using the IBM Entitled Systems Support (ESS) portal, you can allocate a single Power Capacity Credit order across multiple Power Enterprise Pools in your enterprise, or you may choose to partially allocate an order to one pool and leave the balance to be allocated to a specific pool at a later date.

Statement of general direction

Top rule

To provide new levels of flexibility to clients deploying hybrid cloud infrastructures, IBM currently intends to offer a Hybrid Capacity Credit for Power Systems to enable clients to allocate pay-per-use compute resources flexibly across a Power Private Cloud with Dynamic Capacity infrastructure on-premises and Power Virtual Server.

IBM currently intends to enable pay-per-use metering of Linux environments running on PowerVM as an integral part of the Power Systems Private Cloud Solution with Dynamic Capacity, expanding the breadth of applications that may leverage shared resources and instantaneous access to reserve capacity that the Power Private Cloud Solution can provide.
