IBM ODM 8.10

IBM Operational Decision Manager (ODM) is a full-featured decision automation solution that can help you manage the entire lifecycle of rules-based business decisions. Line-of-business users can capture, manage, automate, and monitor business decisions.

With ODM, business users can automate a wide range of decisions, including loan and claims processing, fraud identification, and customer onboarding.

ODM offerings include a full edition and an Express edition. They can address the incremental requirements from basic rules to full- decision management:

  • ODM Server is a single offering that includes all available features and supported platforms.
    • Clients can adapt the decision logic of applications at the speed of business. Its dedicated rule authoring and validation environments for business stakeholders gives visibility into, control over, and automation of point-in-time business decisions.
    • Includes support and specific deliverables to run Decision Center and Decision Server Rules within IBM Cloud Private.
    • Includes Decision Server Insights capabilities that help capture events, build context, and apply them to operational decisions in near real time. Clients can detect situations as they occur to present risks or opportunities so they can enable the appropriate action.
  • ODM Server Express is the entry-point offering that is designed for initial business rules projects as it is licensed for a limited quality of service and a limited number of deployments. ODM Server Express only includes Decision Server Rules and Decision Center components and cannot be used with IBM Cloud Private.

For further information about the components included in each edition, see the ODM Licenses web page in IBM Knowledge Center.

ODM 8.10.5 is delivered as a long-term support release (LTSR), and clients receive product defect fixes and security updates for a minimum period of two years from its general availability date. Clients with the previous LTSR, ODM 8.10.2, no longer will receive product defect fixes and security updates after April 30, 2022.

ODM 8.10.5 facilitates version upgrades through enhanced guidance and scripts to ensure migration is complete.

Decision models created in the Decision Center Business console can now be exported to IBM Automation Decision Services (ADS), a next- generation intelligent automation service delivered as part of IBM Cloud Pak for Automation. ADS provides a low-code environment in which business experts can initiate decision automation projects that combine prescriptive business rules and predictive models to make intelligent operational decisions

ODM 8.10.4

Decision Center

  • Session timeout settings

Set the parameters for timing out work sessions in the Business console. You tell the console how long to wait before it times out automatically, and when to warn the user before a timeout.

  • Creating branches from snapshots

Create an editable branch from a snapshot in the Business console. You can edit decision artifacts in the new branch, and deploy to an execution server.

Operational Decision Manager on Certified Kubernetes

  • Optimizing the Decision Server execution unit (XU)

It is now possible to optimize the execution unit (XU) in existing ODM instances.

  • Configuring user access with OpenID Connect (OIDC)

Operational Decision Manager on Certified Kubernetes now integrates with OpenID Connect, the authentication framework that is built on top of the OAuth 2.0 protocol.

  • Customizing roles at the container level

It is now possible to map ODM roles to groups in the basic or LDAP registry even if their names are different.

  • Configuring external access

There are three mechanisms by which you can define external access to your ODM instances in a Certified Kubernetes cluster: OpenShift routes, Ingress, or NodePort.

  • Upgrading ODM releases

If you installed the first release 8.10.3 of Operational Decision Manager on Certified Kubernetes, learn how to upgrade to the new version 8.10.4.

  • Removed: Deployment toIBM Cloud Private

Operational Decision Manager on IBM Cloud Private is not available in 8.10.4. Alternatives include Operational Decision Manager on Certified Kubernetes or Operational Decision Manager in IBM Cloud Pak for Aut omation.

Operational Decision Manager on IBM Cloud Private is still available in 8.10.3.

For monitoring your Operational Decision Manager software, IBM License Metric Tool is an alternative to the metering service in IBM Cloud Private. It shows detailed licensing and usage information about IBM software installations. If you subscribe to a consumption- based service, you can use the tool to check your billable resources directly.

ODM 8.10.3

Rule Execution Server

  • Execution statistics from REST API

A new service in the Decision Server REST API gets statistics on execution units. It identifies execution units and retrieves their execution statistics

Decision Center

  • Better performance from improved database schema

Improvements to the Decision Center database schema deliver better performance, especially during merge operations. To benefit from these improvements, upgrade your current database to the new 8.10.3 schema by applying the SQL script for your database vender. Note that you must apply this database upgrade to use the OpenID Connect authentication feature.

  • Using parallel processing to improve performance for building rulesets

Building a ruleset can draw heavily on machine resources because, for example, every rule artifact must be retrieved and compiled. Although the compiled rules are cached, this compilation process is CPU intensive, and archiving all the rule artifacts is done in memory. Use the testSuite thread pool to manage parallel processing to improve your performance.

  • Additions to the REST API

There are two new entry points in the REST API. They enable you to create a snapshot of a given decision service, and delete a test report of a given test report ID. They are in the Build section of the Swagger user interface.

  • User defined methods for decision tables

Calls to user defined methods are supported when you export and import the decision table.

  • Viewing billable artifacts

If you're on a subscription service, you can now see your billable artifacts in the new Billable Artifact Counts section in the Diagnostics subtab of the Administration tab. It shows the artifacts that are counted for billing information, and does not include artifacts in the recycle bin or the smart views in the Enterprise console. The new section is not shown by default. You must enable it to display it.

With the IBM ODM 8.10 family of products, IBM ODM uses the CD support model. Following the initial release of Version 8.10, new function and enhancements will be made available by incremental updates within the same version and release.

The new support model is implemented as follows:

  • The CD support model allows IBM products to make new function available more frequently. The model also recognizes that frequent releases may not be suitable for all client application environments. Therefore, some products may offer a Long Term Support Release (LTSR) option.
  • An LTSR can be supported for a longer period time, thereby assisting clients where frequent functional updates may not be practical and a longer term deployment is desirable.
  • Clients should stay up to date with the installation of updates and LTSR packages to obtain the latest maintenance and new function. Product defect fixes and security updates are only available for the two, most current CD updates and all active LTSRs. If required, individual product fixes can be made available between update packages for resolution of problems.
  • Update packages are delivered on the latest product release stream when the new release becomes available.
  • New functional updates are not available to previously released update packages and LTSRs.
  • Support is available for all IBM components of a product until the product is withdrawn from support.
  • Support extensions are available, for a minimum period of two years for an additional fee, following effective support discontinuance date of the product.
