Description

The IBM 9348 Magnetic Tape Unit is a 1/2-inch reel intermediate performance streaming tape drive that reads or records data at 6250 bpi or 1600 bpi. The 9348 has a nominal tape speed of 125 inches per second (ips). This allows a data rate of 781KB per second (maximum) at 6250 bpi or 200KB per second (maximum) at 1600 bpi. A 1Mb buffer is used to optimize drive performance and overlap tape repositioning actions. The 9348 is provided for program distribution, save/restore and 1/2-inch tape interchange.
