IBM Spectrum Virtualize Software V8.1.2 delivers powerful storage virtualization

PDF versionPDF

At a glance

IBM Spectrum Virtualize™ V8.1.2 delivers support for the latest platforms in the IBM Storwize® product family, and adds the following functions and improvements:

  • Data reduction pools (DRP) for increased capacity efficiency
  • Thin-provisioning deallocation and space reclamation (SCSI UNMAP)
  • Thin Provisioned MDisk: Utilizes UNMAP to alert when extents are freed or a host writes zeroes, providing more efficient use of physical space (Available in IBM Spectrum Virtualize V8.1.1)
  • Increased number of compress volumes, up to the vDisk limits
  • Improved performance consistency with compression
  • iSCSI port scalability and grouping (Available in IBM Spectrum Virtualize V8.1.1)

Overview

IBM Spectrum Virtualize software delivers a powerful solution for storage virtualization, offering advanced storage capabilities.

IBM Spectrum Virtualize V8.1.2 adds the following benefits:

  • Data reduction pools increase existing infrastructure capacity utilization by leveraging new efficiency functions. The pools enable you to automatically de-allocate and reclaim capacity of thin-provisioned volumes containing deleted data and, for the first time, enable this reclaimed capacity to be reused by other volumes. With a new log-structured pool implementation, data reduction pools help deliver more consistent performance from compressed volumes. Data reduction pools also support compressing all volumes in a system, potentially extending the benefits of compression to all data in a system.
  • Thin Provisioned MDisk utilizes UNMAP to alert when extents are freed or a host writes zeroes, providing more efficient use of physical space. (Available in IBM Spectrum Virtualize V8.1.1)
  • iSCSI port scalability and grouping will enable new host grouping of ports of similar speeds together and deliver future increases in ports per node and speed. The host can attach to port groups with the right speeds for optimized performance. (Available in IBM Spectrum Virtualize V8.1.1)

IBM Watson Assistant for Industry delivers cloud service tools and solutions that helps businesses build voice, text, and interaction-enabled personal assistants

PDF versionPDF

Overview

IBM Watson® Assistant helps organizations personalize the customer experience while maintaining control of customer data. Watson Assistant is personal because it knows a user's preferences. Watson Assistant is portable because it is not tied to a single application or device and remembers context as the user moves across devices and locations. Watson Assistant is proactive because it automates routine tasks.

Watson Assistant Solutions can be purchased as:

  • Watson Assistant for Industry for building a personal assistant for any industry
  • Watson Assistant for Automotive for automotive industry applications
  • Watson Assistant for Hospitality for hotels, hospitals, and conference room applications

By providing customers with their own branded personal digital assistant experience, users can interact in new engaging ways with a business's products and services. With Watson Assistant for Hospitality, for example, a smart speaker in a hotel room can let guests request services, such as housekeeping, room service, reservations, obtain information about the hotel venues, as well as control in-room technology, such as smart lighting, television, and air conditioning. With Watson Assistant for Automotive, similar intelligent and personal assistants that know their drivers and passengers can be built into automobiles. With these tools, businesses can improve customer satisfaction by better understanding their customer's needs, upselling services (for example, entertainment and dining), and reducing personnel costs.

With Watson services at its core, a Watson Assistant built personal digital assistant can welcome users, introduce itself, and teach users about available capabilities. By integrating Watson Assistance with a business's existing user data and preferences, Watson Assistant can proactively address context-specific requests when using a business's products or services. With Watson Assistant Solutions, business staff can be freed up to deliver more relevant and higher value services that increase loyalty and brand engagement.
