Description
Bottom rule

Rational Programming Patterns V9.6 offers:

  • Migration and import enhancements:
    • A new option in the automatic migration command removes unwanted COBOL files for a multisession or progressive migration: If a list of programs, screens, or servers with COBOL files that must not be migrated was specified for a multisession migration (MIBR) or a progressive migration (MIBJ), it can be recognised upon each new import of a session or journal version. The COBOL files of the new instances that are integrated in the list each time MIBR or MIBJ is run are then automatically removed from the workspace if they had been previously imported. To do so, a -noMigratedFile option can now be entered in the automatic migration command to point to the file that contains the instances list.
    • Filter on imported libraries: A filter can be applied on the extracted libraries before the automatic migration command to migrate libraries' subnetworks.
    • Modifications of zcompmap and uploadsandbox commands for Rational Team Concert™ compatibility: The zcompmap command is now an rpp.bat command. It is called by scmtools_entries.bat command, which contains two new parameters. An argument has been removed from the uploadsandbox command.
  • Design editors enhancements:
    • Instance labels displayed by default in the selection wizards that are opened with the Add buttons.
    • Enhanced Data Element display in reports: The Data Element output format is displayed in the -CE lines and -D lines. A tooltip is available in the Structure and Label columns in the --D Lines.
    • DSQC1 option can be selected in Copybooks to generate the description of Segments in an SQL format.
    • New Generation tab in the Library editor: A project and folder can be specified for all the generation products of the Library (COBOL files, but also maps, proxies, descriptions of Database Blocks, and so on).
    • Alphabetical sort of macros in -CP Lines.
    • Width of the Description column in the -G Lines limited to 60 characters.
    • Enhanced user entity: The Overview tab displays the description number and label. The checkbox Show Field Name is selected by default in the Description tab.
    • Screen address of elements (equivalent to --ADR in Pacbase): From the -CElines of a screen, you can open a view that displays the positions of all the fields in a screen.
  • PDP UI and wizard enhancements:
    • Enhanced Generated Code Structure view: A new column shows the conditions for the IT blocks. Tooltips show the function or subfunction and its level in the first column, and the condition as it is displayed in the PDP COBOL editor in the Condition column.
    • New MCI micropattern: This micropattern corresponds to the MOVE CORRESPONDING COBOL statement. It transfers the elementary data elements with identical names in two group fields.
    • New snippet for the insertion of the EVALUATE statement.
    • New colour and font preferences: A new default colour for the code lines in the PDP COBOL editor and the Generated Code Structure view is available. A new preference is also available to customize the character font, size, and style in the PDP COBOL editor.
  • Search and cross-references features enhancements:
    • Free references with content assist in Folder Composition: A free reference is set when the name of a target instance is entered in the columns of the Folder Composition tab. Content assist is available and a subreference link is created, even if the target instance is not defined. The target instance is displayed in the subreference results of the Folder instance. Its super references can be searched.
    • Enhanced macro cross-references view: The Context field filters the results; tooltip displays the entity type of the calling instances; Comment column; menu to sort, filter, and change the displayed information; contextual menu of calling instances; and specification of a linked instance (with content assist).
  • Macro-structures enhancements:
    • New contextual menu in the Macro Code Structure view: The menu contains choices to create a function or subfunction and update or delete a selected function or subfunction.
    • CASE OF Refactoring to EVALUATE: In the Generated Code Structure view, the action CASE OF refactoring to EVALUATE is added to the functions and subfunction actions menu. It is enabled on the dependent subfunctions of a subfunction with a CASE OF condition and in COBOL II, 85 only. The code of the CASE OF is reformatted into an EVALUATE statement.
    • New client/server skeletons for macros in the Macro Code Structure view: Skeletons are available for communication monitors, folders, and IT servers.
    • New custom quality rule for macro lines: The RPP custom rule No specific lines for specified macros verifies that the COBOL code of a program, screen, or server does not contain deletions, overwritings, or insertions of specific lines inside specified macros.
  • Generation Manager enhancements:
    • Filter text input field: The filter applies to the whole content of all the columns, but its scope can be explicitly narrowed.
    • CSV export is available.

    Web client

Data dictionary, treatment patterns, and generated code basic read-only views, as well as simplified search and impact analysis features are now provided through a Rational Team Concert-based web client available as a chargeable component of Rational Programming Patterns.

  • Miscellaneous enhancements:
    • e-Business 2.5 Pattern: Generation of the service manager for mono-view development.
    • Duplication of communication monitors and folders: The Duplicate choice is now available in the contextual menu of communication monitors and folders in the Design Explorer view. It duplicates the design file, COBOL file, and proxy (if applicable).
    • Removal of the Package field from the creation wizards in the Pacbase facet.

Floating User Single Install

Floating User Single Install is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A Floating User is a person who is accessing the program at any particular point in time. An install is an installed copy of the program on a physical or virtual disk made available to be executed on a computer. The program may be installed on any number of computers or servers, but if the Floating User simultaneously accesses more than one install of the program, the Floating User requires a separate entitlement for each such install. Licensee must obtain separate entitlements for each Floating User simultaneously accessing the program on each install in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, through a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means.

Note: Some programs may be licensed where devices are considered users. In that case the following applies. Any computing device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from the program or that is otherwise managed by the program is considered a separate user of the program and requires an entitlement as if that device were a person.

Authorized User

Authorized User is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An Authorized User is a unique person who is given access to the program. The program may be installed on any number of computers or servers and each Authorized User may have simultaneous access to any number of instances of the program at one time. Licensee must obtain separate, dedicated entitlements for each Authorized User given access to the program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means. An entitlement for an Authorized User is unique to that Authorized User and may not be shared, nor may it be reassigned other than for the permanent transfer of the Authorized User entitlement to another person.

Note: Some programs may be licensed where devices are considered users. In that case the following applies: Any computing device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from the program or that is otherwise managed by the program is considered a separate user of the program and requires an entitlement as if that device were a person.

Bottom rule

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Limited warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, see the IBM Software Support Handbook.

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

Money-back guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Statement of good security practices
Bottom rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through intrusion prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a regulatory compliant, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
