Description
Bottom rule

IBM PowerVC V1.3.1, part of the AIX Enterprise Edition V7 bundle, has added IBM Cloud PowerVC Manager for IBM Power® private cloud deployments.

IBM Cloud PowerVC Manager includes all the functions of the PowerVC Standard Edition plus the following new features:

  • Self-service portal that allows the provisioning of new VMs without direct system administrator intervention. An option is included for policy approvals for the requests received from the self-service portal.
  • Deployment templates that simplify cloud deployments.
  • Cloud management policies that simplify the management of cloud deployments.
  • Metering data for chargeback.

PowerVC Standard Edition has been enhanced with the following new features and functions:

  • Enhanced security isolation by project with integrated role-based security controls
  • Improvements to Dynamic Resource Optimizer that allow schedules for monitoring policies, NovaLink based mobile core CoD optimization, and improved DRO policy controls
  • Enhanced storage support that improves data deletion policies
  • VM deployment with Active Memory™ Expansion (AME) enabled

PowerVC Standard Edition and IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack are removed from the bundle, and IBM Cloud PowerVC Manager is being added. This change provides generally equivalent but simplified systems management for Power Virtualization and cloud management.

AIX 7.1 Standard Edition now includes server-side flash caching. Workloads can take advantage of a read-only cache, stored in near-line flash for data frequently accessed from storage. Flash can be directly assigned to AIX partitions, or a virtual flash device can be provisioned from the VIOS. AIX partitions with virtual flash devices may be migrated to another server.
