Product positioning
Bottom rule

Cloud Manager with OpenStack for Power is an ideal choice for clients who need to get started with a private cloud solution that can scale as they expand the number of cloud users and workloads. More importantly, IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack spans multiple hardware platforms and virtualization technologies. This makes it a unique solution for enterprises with heterogeneous IT infrastructure with a diverse range of applications. IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack provides clients with comprehensive infrastructure as a service (IaaS) capabilities.

For enterprise clients who need advanced cloud benefits, such as deployment of multiworkload patterns and platform as a service (PaaS) capabilities, IBM offers a range of advanced cloud solutions. Because the IBM cloud portfolio is built on a common foundation, clients may initially purchase IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack and then migrate to an advanced cloud solution in the future.

IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack, together with Platform Resource Scheduler, helps to reduce the total cost of ownership of the cloud by using infrastructure more efficiently, sharing resources between tenants, and automating tedious cloud management tasks. By continuously monitoring the cloud and taking actions as necessary to ensure that configurable policy objectives are being achieved, performance and availability remain optimal even as the topology of the cloud infrastructure and workloads inevitably change with time.

Customer responsibilities

Client's that have any one of the following offerings are encouraged to upgrade the license only at no charge to the 5765-CMO offering. The upgrades will be setup in eConfig to simplify the migration to IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack V4.2.

Trade up to 5765-CMO from 5765-SC3/OSP/SF3/OSF/SB3/SKC/SCP (License only upgrade)

Clients on the existing SWMA for 5765-SC3/OSP/SF3/OSF/SB3/SKC/SCP need to get with their IBM TSS/CHIS representative within 90 days after upgrade, and let IBM TSS know you have moved to the new 5765-CMO offering and need to renew SWMA to the new CMO SWMA. This upgrade will produce a 5665-CMO 90 day no charge SMWA contract that will migrate clients to the IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack V4.2 SWMA offering.

IBM is withdrawing IBM SmartCloud® Entry V3 and IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack, V4.1 products and replacing them with IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack V4.2. Clients that have acquired licenses to the withdrawn products may upgrade to the new product and convert from their entitlements to per socket entitlements.

For IBM SmartCloud Entry for Power, IBM SmartCloud Entry for Power bundle, and IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack for Power, this process will involve converting entitlements from per processor core to per socket, based on the number of populated sockets in the server. For IBM SmartCloud Entry for IBM Flex Systems and IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack for IBM Flex Systems, this process will involve an upgrade to convert entitlements from per managed server to per socket, based on the number of sockets in each ITE (i.e. server). For clients that acquired IBM SmartCloud Entry for IBM Flex System, based on a per managed chassis entitlement, an upgrade to IBM Cloud Manager with OpenStack, V4.2 will be based on the total number of sockets in the compute ITE, in each chassis.

Socket

Socket is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. A socket is electronic circuitry that accepts a processor chip. A server is a physical computer that is comprised of processing units, memory, and input/output capabilities that executes requested procedures, commands, or applications for one or more users or client devices. Where racks, blade enclosures, or other similar equipment is being employed, each separable physical device (for example, a blade or a rack-mounted device) that has the required components is considered itself a separate server. A virtual server is either a virtual computer created by partitioning the resources available to a physical server or the unpartitioned physical server. Licensee must obtain entitlements for each socket on the servers made available to the program.

Statement of good security practices
Bottom rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective. IBM does not warrant that systems and products are immune from the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.

To access the tool main menu, simply type smitty esa_main, and select Configure Electronic Service Agent. In addition, ESA now includes a powerful web user interface, giving the administrator easy access to status, tool settings, problem information, and filters. For more information and documentation on how to configure and use Electronic Service Agent, refer to

The IBM Electronic Support portal is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. This portal enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The My Systems and Premium Search functions make it even easier for Electronic Service Agent tool-enabled customers to track system inventory and find pertinent fixes.

Benefits

Increased uptime: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to enhance the Warranty or Maintenance Agreement by providing faster hardware error reporting and uploading system information to IBM Support. This can translate to less wasted time monitoring the symptoms, diagnosing the error, and manually calling IBM Support to open a problem record. Its 24x7 monitoring and reporting mean no more dependence on human intervention or off-hours customer personnel when errors are encountered in the middle of the night.

Security: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to be secure in monitoring, reporting, and storing the data at IBM. The Electronic Service Agent tool securely transmits via either the Internet (HTTPS or VPN) or modem, and can be configured to communicate securely through gateways to provide you a single point of exit from your site. Communication is one way. Activating Electronic Service Agent does not enable IBM to call into your system. System inventory information is stored in a secure database, which is protected behind IBM firewalls. It is viewable only by you and IBM. Your business applications or business data is never transmitted to IBM.

More accurate reporting: Because system information and error logs are automatically uploaded to the IBM Support center in conjunction with the service request, you are not required to find and send system information, decreasing the risk of misreported or misdiagnosed errors. Once inside IBM, problem error data is run through a data knowledge management system and knowledge articles are appended to the problem record.

Customized support: Using the IBM ID entered during activation, you can view system and support information in the My Systems and Premium Search sections of the Electronic Support website at

http://www.ibm.com/support/electronic

My Systems provides valuable reports of installed hardware and software using information collected from the systems by Electronic Service Agent. Reports are available for any system associated with your IBM ID. Premium Search combines the function of search and the value of Electronic Service Agent information, providing advanced search of the technical support knowledgebase. Using Premium Search and the Electronic Service Agent information that has been collected from your system, you are able to see search results that apply specifically to your systems.
