Overview

Top rule

IBM® Digital Business Automation (DBA) is a flexible platform that automates:

  • Repetitive human tasks
  • Content management
  • Process workflows
  • Data capture
  • Business decisions:
    • Improves responsiveness and consistency while reducing costs.
    • Allows businesses to make the right decisions at the right time by capturing, automating, and managing repeatable business rules.

IBM Operational Decision Manager (ODM) is an advanced business rules management system. As part of the DBA platform that helps clients capture, automate, and govern frequent, repeatable business decisions, ODM adds real-time decision making to clients' day-to-day operations. It can help ensure their applications remain current and well aligned with their changing business objectives.

New capabilities in ODM V8.10 include:

  • New decision modeling in Decision Center, with a focus on ease of use and speed for the early stage of a decision automation project:
    • Decisions can now be defined through a visual and logical decomposition model that makes them easier to author, maintain, and understand. This new capability is derived from the Decision Model and Notation (DMN) standard. As a key benefit, decision models can be authored by business users, without any involvement from IT or programming skills.
    • The decision model editor also features an intuitive way for users to specify the data model that their decisions consume or produce.
    • Decision models are entirely defined from the Decision Center Business Console and managed as any other decision service.
    • Decision projects that are created with IBM Decision Composer (Cloud Service) can be reused as decision model services in ODM.
  • Additional features integrated in Decision Center Business Console
  • Upgrade of components, with Rule Designer and Insight® Designer that is now based on Eclipse 4.7.3
  • Updates to the list of supported platforms

In addition, Processor Value Unit (PVU) Monthly License part numbers that were previously withdrawn are reinstated.

The ODM offerings include a full edition and also an Express® edition. They can address the incremental requirements from basic rules to full decision management:

  • ODM Server is a single offering that includes all available features and supported platforms.
    • Allows clients to adapt the decision logic of applications at the speed of business. Its dedicated rule authoring and validation environments for business stakeholders gives visibility into, control over, and automation of point-in-time business decisions.
    • Includes support and specific deliverables to run Decision Center and Decision Server Rules within IBM Cloud™ Private.
    • Includes Decision Server Insights capabilities that help capture events, build context, and apply them to operational decisions in real time. Clients can detect situations as they occur to present risks or opportunities, and to enable the appropriate action.
  • ODM Server Express is the entry-point offering that is designed for initial business rules projects as it is licensed for a limited quality of service and a limited number of deployments. ODM Server Express only includes Decision Server Rules and Decision Center components and cannot be used with IBM Cloud Private.

IBM ODM V8.10 uses the IBM Continuous Delivery (CD) support model. For additional information how ODM V8.10 uses CD, see the Terms and conditions section.

For additional benefits of ODM, see IBM Knowledge Center.

For additional capabilities of ODM, see the announcements in the Reference information section.

Description

Top rule

New capabilities in ODM V8.10 include:

  • New decision modeling in Decision Center, with a focus on ease of use and speed for the early stage of a decision automation project. Business stakeholders get increasing pressure to isolate, scope, and define business decisions that can be later automated:
    • Decisions can now be defined through a visual and logical decomposition model that makes them easier to author, maintain and understand. This new capability is derived from the Decision Model and Notation (DMN) standard. As a key benefit, decision models can be authored by business users, without any involvement from IT or programming skills.
    • The decision model editor also features an intuitive way for users to specify the data model that their decisions will consume or produce.
    • Decision models are entirely defined from Decision Center's Business Console. They can also be tested, simulated, governed and deployed like any other Decision Service.
    • In 2017, IBM introduced Decision Composer, which exposes the decision modeling capability as a free experimental offering, that operates on the IBM Cloud. Decision Composer enables a general audience become familiar with decision automation. Decision projects created with IBM Decision Composer (Cloud Service) can be reused as decision model services in ODM.
  • Additional features integrated in Decision Center Business Console:
    • Support for custom, key performance indicators (KPIs) for decision service simulation
    • More execution details from a decision service test
    • Notification of Decision Center governance and deployment events
    • A new diagnostic page in Business Console to check Decision Center parameters
  • Upgrade of components, with Rule Designer and Insight Designer that are now based on Eclipse 4.7.3
  • Updates to the list of supported platforms, which include the addition of support for IBM WebSphere® Application Server V9, support for IBM MQ V9 for Decision Server Insights, and the removal of ODM pattern for IBM PureApplication® System.

IBM ODM V8.10 uses the Continuous Delivery support model and is available for a minimum of three years from the general availability.

In addition, Processor Value Unit (PVU) Monthly License part numbers that were previously withdrawn are reinstated

ODM V8.10 is available from Passport Advantage® for full installation .

Terms and conditions

Top rule

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use. Part number products only, offered outside of Passport Advantage, where applicable, are license only and do not include Software Maintenance.

Software Maintenance

Licenses under the IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. Two charges apply: a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

License Information number

The following License Information documents apply to the offering in this announcement:

Program identifier License Information document title License Information document number
5725-B69 IBM Operational Decision Manager Server V8.10 L-ASAY-B2XBWG
5725-B69 IBM Operational Decision Manager Server Limited Use Edition V8.10 L-ASAY-B2XBUC
5725-B69 IBM Operational Decision Manager Server Express V8.10 L-ASAY-B2XBSC

Select your language of choice and scroll down to the Charge Metrics section. Follow-on releases, if any, may have updated terms. See the License Information documents website for more information.

Limited warranty applies

Yes

Limited warranty

IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, see the IBM Software Support Handbook.

IBM will maintain this information for at least one year after the original licensee acquires the program (warranty period).

With the IBM ODM V8.10 family of products, IBM ODM uses the CD support model. Following the initial release of Version 8.10, new function and enhancements will be made available by incremental updates within the same version and release.

The new support model is implemented as follows:

  • The CD support model allows IBM products to make new function available more frequently. The model also recognizes that frequent releases may not be suitable for all client application environments. Therefore, some products may offer a Long Term Support Release (LTSR) option.
  • An LTSR can be supported for a longer period time, thereby assisting clients where frequent functional updates may not be practical and a longer term deployment is desirable.
  • Clients should stay up to date with the installation of updates and LTSR packages to obtain the latest maintenance and new function. Product defect fixes and security updates are only available for the two, most current CD updates and all active LTSRs. If required, individual product fixes can be made available between update packages for resolution of problems.
  • Update packages are delivered on the latest product release stream when the new release becomes available.
  • New functional updates are not available to previously released update packages and LTSRs.
  • Support is available for all IBM components of a product until the product is withdrawn from support.
  • Support extensions are available, for a minimum period of two years for an additional fee, following effective support discontinuance date of the product.

For support of IBM ODM V8.10:

  • New functionality, security updates, and defect fixes will be made available through CD releases. Additional support will be made available, as necessary, through iFixes on only the two most recent CD updates and LTSR.
  • IBM ODM V8.10 is delivered as a CD update release.

Technical support of a program product version or release will be available for a minimum of three years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) is in effect.

This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (by telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance) also provides you with access to versions, releases, and updates (CD releases, Long Term Support Releases or fixes) of the program. You will be notified, through an announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with six months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

For additional information on the IBM Software Support Lifecycle Policy, see the IBM Software Support Lifecycle Policy website.

Money-back guarantee

If for any reason you are dissatisfied with the program and you are the original licensee, you may obtain a refund of the amount you paid for it, if within 30 days of your invoice date you return the program and its PoE to the party from whom you obtained it. If you downloaded the program, you may contact the party from whom you acquired it for instructions on how to obtain the refund.

For clarification, note that (1) for programs acquired under the IBM International Passport Advantage offering, this term applies only to your first acquisition of the program and (2) for programs acquired under any of IBM's On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) software offerings, this term does not apply since these offerings apply to programs already acquired and in use by you.

Statement of good security practices

Top rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through intrusion prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a regulatory compliant, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
