New memory option for the IBM® BladeCenter® HX5

Back to topBack to top

Top rule
Overview
Bottom rule

The BladeCenter HX5 enables unprecedented performance and utilization in a blade form factor for database and virtualization. With MAX5 scalability, the HX5 blade offers memory capacity of up to 320 GB on a double-wide blade. It utilizes the Intel® Xeon® 7500 and 6500 Processors and, with MAX5, offers the most memory of any server in its class.

The HX5 currently supports the following DDR3 memory RDIMMs:

  • 2 GB (1x2GB, 2Rx8, 1.5V) PC3-10600 CL9 ECC DDR3 1333MHz VLP RDIMM
  • 4 GB (1x4GB, 2Rx8, 1.5V) PC3-10600 CL9 ECC DDR3 1333MHz VLP RDIMM
  • 8 GB (1x8GB, 4Rx8, 1.5V) PC3-8500 CL7 ECC DDR3 1066MHz VLP RDIMM

The MAX5 currently supports the following DDR3 memory RDIMMs:

  • 4 GB (1x4GB, 2Rx8, 1.5V) PC3-10600 CL9 ECC DDR3 1333MHz VLP RDIMM
  • 8 GB (1x8GB, 4Rx8, 1.5V) PC3-8500 CL7 ECC DDR3 1066MHz VLP RDIMM

Today IBM is announcing BladeCenter HX5 support for the following DDR3 RDIMM, in addition to the RDIMMs already supported on the HX5 (this DIMM is not supported on the MAX5):

  • 8 GB (1x8GB, 2Rx4, 1.5V) PC3-10600 CL9 ECC DDR3 1333MHz VLP RDIMM (49Y1555)

These high-speed, DDR3 registered DIMMs are synchronized to the processor. Once addressed, data can be transferred on both edges of the clock signal. This significantly improves performance of the front-side bus Xeon MP processors.

ECC DIMMs, combined with an integrated advanced ECC memory controller with fourth-generation Chipkill™ support to correct many single-bit, 2-bit, 3-bit, and 4-bit memory errors, minimize disruption of service to LAN clients.
