Overview
Bottom rule

A new offering in the IBM IoT for Manufacturing suite of solutions, Visual Inspection for Quality helps enable transformation for smarter manufacturing and Industry 4.0 through cognitive visual inspection. Visual Inspection for Quality uses cognitive capabilities to review and match incoming defects to defect patterns that it has formerly trained on, and classifies them accordingly. The solution accelerates the tedious and expertise-based visual inspection process to quickly identify and classify defects in the manufacturing process.

Visual Inspection for Quality and Prescriptive Quality for Manufacturing (another IoT for Manufacturing solution) are designed to help enable and accelerate cognitive operations and processes in manufacturing environments. Visual Inspection for Quality works in conjunction with and within the context of the IBM Prescriptive Quality for Manufacturing solution. When integrated, these offerings can bring more certainty to businesses by analyzing a variety of structured and unstructured manufacturing information from manufacturing data sources. Using prebuilt standard analytical models and deep learning models, these solutions can help drive the quality of operations and products, reduce scrap, and increase production yield.

Optional integration with the IBM Watson™ IoT Platform is also possible. This option adds another cognitive layer to the solution by connecting sensors and inputs from the manufacturing floor directly into Prescriptive Quality for Manufacturing and Visual Inspection for Quality. This offers a cost-effective means to connect, capture, and apply analytics to operational data generated by instrumented devices, equipment, and products.

Visual Inspection for Quality is an integral part of the IoT for Manufacturing suite, helping to bring increased intelligence and precision to your manufacturing environment:

  • Classifies incoming images into defect classes (if match), or non-defects
  • Uses IBM research algorithms to learn from defect patterns
  • Provides capability to define and track manufacturing defects by model managers and data scientists, to create more accurate assessments and defect capture strategies
  • Is operated on SoftLayer®
  • Can improve efficiency and reduce visual inspection times for visual inspectors and inspection supervisors
  • Can drive increase in manufacturing yield and reduction of scrap

Statement of good security practices
Bottom rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a lawful, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
