Description
Bottom rule

IBM BPM V8.5.7

IBM BPM V8.5.7 delivers:

  • Compelling business user experience

Liberate knowledge workers and enable field staff to participate in business processes by allowing them to perform their work outside the office by using their mobile devices. Improvements to the business user experience is provided by new Process Portal capabilities and enhanced UI tooling to help enable developers to rapidly create compelling business UIs without requiring deep, technical skills.

  • Mobile enablement

The Process Portal and stock controls are now fully responsive. Business users can use the new responsive portal with existing business processes from either their desktops or mobile devices with appropriate network access. Process developers can transform existing coaches into responsive UIs automatically within process designer and can create UIs for mobile devices with improved UI tooling.

  • Enhanced UI tooling

The CSHS editor is enhanced to simplify the development of user interfaces for both desktop and mobile plus many other improvements, such as the ability to create nested client-side human services. Process developers can create compelling user interfaces by imply using the new Grid Layout and Theme Editor.

The Grid Layout can be used to define the layout of a coach or coach view without needing horizontal and vertical sections. It is based on a 12-column grid so that it is quick and easy to define a layout where content is perfectly aligned to create a modern user interface. The WYSIWYG editor enables the UI developer to visualize the layout and add content without having to execute the UI to see the end result.

The new theming capability allows the UI designer to define the corporate look and feel in one place by using a simple Graphical Theme Editor. A theme can be applied to one or more process applications dynamically without having to edit individual coaches, redeploy the process application or migrate process instances. It is possible to create multiple themes with multiple versions, so different themes can be applied to each process application independently.

  • Process federation

The Process Portal can now be used with either a single process server or in a federated topology. Federation enables business users to access and execute all their processes, cases, activities, and dashboards from a single user interface without needing to be aware of either the task implementation or origin. Federation allows IT personnel to manage the infrastructure without impacting the business user experience. Federated tasks can originate from multiple process servers that may include different versions of IBM BPM to support isolation and migration scenarios.

Processes may be isolated for a variety of reasons that include managing platform stability, process scaleability, and separate departmental deployments. When transitioning to a new version of IBM BPM, federation enables customers to roll out processes on the latest version while they migrate existing processes. Clients may decide to leave some processes running on the older platform indefinitely or remove them once there are no more instances, thus avoiding migration altogether. The unified task list combines human activities from both BPMN and BPEL processes to enable clients with WebSphere® Process Server solutions to transition to BPMN while utilizing their existing investments.

  • Improved portal experience

The process portal is now responsive so that the UI adapts, according to the available screen size of the user's chosen device. Business users can complete their tasks virtually anywhere, at any time, by using their mobile phone or tablet.

The portal is now completely coach-based, so it is much easier for developers to make modifications or use it as a baseline to create a custom portal to satisfy the demands of the business. Configuration options are added to enable the portal behavior to be adapted without having to customize the portal. Dashboards can still be used to extend portal behavior.

New, saved search capabilities are now available for individuals and team leaders to organize tasks for themselves and their teams without having to ask the IT administrator to expose saved searches to the entire organization. Users can find tasks that match a combination of business and process data and save the search for later use. Team leaders can define role-based, saved searches so that they are only exposed to specific teams.

Business users who need to access other systems to complete a task can now launch external activities directly from the process portal without logging into the other systems and navigate to the required user interface.

  • Case, as standard

All case, structured and hybrid process standards patterns are now supported in Process Designer as standard. Authors do not need to decide whether to build either a Case or Business Process definition because these are now converged into a single, BPMN process model. This provides the best of both worlds in a single tool. A new, web-based editor enables developers to model, validate, and playback their cases. Knowledge workers can now monitor, measure, and report on case metrics. Any CMIS-compatible content repository can now be used to manage the client's documents for all cases and business processes consistently.

  • Operating environment

This release includes essential operating environment updates to enable the clients' IT operations to keep their IBM BPM infrastructure current.

Authorized User

Authorized User is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. An Authorized User is a unique person who is given access to the program. The program may be installed on any number of computers or servers and each Authorized User may have simultaneous access to any number of instances of the program at one time. Licensee must obtain separate, dedicated entitlements for each Authorized User given access to the program in any manner directly or indirectly (for example, through a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means. An entitlement for an Authorized User is unique to that Authorized User and may not be shared, nor may it be reassigned other than for the permanent transfer of the Authorized User entitlement to another person.

Note: Some programs may be licensed where devices are considered users. In that case, the following applies. Any computing device that requests the execution of or receives for execution a set of commands, procedures, or applications from the program or that is otherwise managed by the program is considered a separate user of the program and requires an entitlement as if that device were a person.

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at the website below) and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip (socket). A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores. The PVU table can be found on the PVU licensing for Distributed Software page. Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms found on the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules page. If using full capacity licensing, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores* in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using virtualization capacity licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules that can be found on the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules page.

* An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.

Notes

  • Some programs may require licenses for the program and what is being managed. In that case, the following applies. In addition to the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • Some programs may be licensed on a managed basis only. In that case, the following applies. Instead of the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.
  • A few programs on an exception basis may be licensed on a referenced basis. In that case, the following applies. Rather than obtaining entitlements for the activated processor cores available to the program, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the environment made available to the referenced program as if the program itself were executing everywhere the referenced program was executing, independent of the basis on which the referenced program is licensed.

Application Instance

Application Instance is a unit of measure by which the Program can be licensed. An entitlement is required for each instance of an application connected to or managed by the Program. An application in a test, development, staging, or production environment is each considered to be a separate instance of the application and each must have an entitlement. As well, multiple application instances in a single environment are each considered to be separate instances of the application and each must have an entitlement.

Top rule
Statement of good security practices
Bottom rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a lawful, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
