DESCRIPTION
USER PRODUCTIVITY
Lotus 1-2-3 has become established as a key analytical tool in
enterprises around the world. Lotus 1-2-3/M brings the power of
1-2-3 to the System/370 environment for MVS/TSO/E and VM/CMS users.
Lotus 1-2-3/M and Lotus 1-2-3 for the personal computer complement
each other's capabilities and together form a multilevel decision-
support environment. The Spreadsheet Connection, distributed with
1-2-3/M, can be downloaded and installed as an add-in application to
1-2-3 on the personal computer, providing a consistent menu-driven
interface for file transfer from within 1-2-3 to and from the
mainframe. Users are able to work where it makes the most sense for
their particular task, freeing them to concentrate on business
applications rather than environmental considerations. Users can be
immediately productive as the knowledge base and experience already
in place are directly applied to Lotus 1-2-3/M, reducing the need for
extensive retraining.
Lotus 1-2-3/M eliminates the personal computer 'islands of
computing,' making it possible to share and transfer data easily.
The program provides multiple users shared access to individual
worksheet models, providing a single source of up-to-date financial
information for numerical analysis. Further, it allows consolidation
of up to 256 individual models through a computer network.
Centralized spreadsheet distribution and control offer the potential
to take the best of existing personal computer spreadsheet
applications and make them available to a broad user community.
Moreover, need for costly rework is reduced as 1-2-3/M distributed
template applications standardize procedures within work groups and
across corporations.
User job performance is also enhanced by eliminating the need
to rekey centralized corporate data. Corporations maintaining
relational data bases (DB2 and SQL/DS) on mainframe systems can
access and analyze their corporate financial and operational
information using standard 1-2-3/M menu commands. Individual data
base tables may also be created and deleted. This relational
interface is done with a dynamic SQL program. Information from
multiple computing environments (DOS, OS/2 (R), MVS, and VM) derived
from a variety of sources (1-2-3, SQL/DS, DB2, AS, QMF, and 1-2-3/M)
can be consolidated into a single, central source for analysis. The
consolidated data can then be shared by users within a department or
across a division, regardless of geographical location.
The 1-2-3/M terminal interface is optimized to offer 3270 user
productivity. The user may move the cursor to any visible cell and
directly enter data, text, or formulas. A complete screen's worth of
data may be entered in one processor interaction. An interactive
command field enables composing and editing of complete menu command
strings before pressing the ENTER key.

BUSINESS SOLUTIONS
Lotus 1-2-3/M provides an integrated foundation for building and
managing centralized spreadsheet-based systems as a means to attain
business objectives. Serving as the hub of the Enterprise
Spreadsheet System, 1-2-3/M enhances a company's ability to deliver
business solutions by networking the current installed base of 1-2-3
personal computer users with 3270 users and allowing them to work
together on common spreadsheet tasks. English, French, German,
Italian, Spanish, and Japanese 1-2-3/M users may exchange worksheets
between supported languages, providing an international consolidation
tool for financial data. From within 1-2-3/M, users can gain access
to AS to further process data or present it (using such AS functions
as query, statistics, project management, reports, or charts), and
then return to 1-2-3/M. The QMF interface allows the user to invoke
QMF from within the worksheet, develop and execute a query, and/or
generate a report, and then return to 1-2-3/M.
System/370 graphic representation and presentation- quality
printouts using GDDM and GDDM's Interactive Chart Utility (ICU)
support the decision-making process and formal presentation of the
results. Graphs and worksheets can be displayed on the screen
together, and changes in the worksheet can be reflected automatically
in the graph. Presentation-quality output, with shading, style, and
font control, can be printed via IBM Advanced Function Printing on
3800-series printers, including text and graphics.
Additionally, Lotus 1-2-3/M takes advantage of System/370
memory capacity for large worksheets, and large data storage capacity
and disk access speed for spreadsheet storage and retrieval to
provide complex spreadsheet analysis.
INVESTMENT PROTECTION
Lotus 1-2-3/M protects and enhances the customer's current training
and software investments by extending 1-2-3 spreadsheet function to
the IBM System/370 environment. The Lotus 1-2-3/M menu is the same
as in the Lotus 1-2-3 Release 3 personal computer version, providing
macro compatibility between the products. The user interacts with
the program in a manner similar to working with the personal computer
product; data, formulas, text, and values can be entered through the
worksheet control panel. Traditional 1-2-3 personal- computer-like
file naming conventions are used when saving and retrieving files.
Further, since 1-2-3/M is upwardly compatible with 1-2-3 Release 1A,
Release 2.01, and Release 2.2, easy data migration is provided.
Current investment in 1-2-3 models, macro programming, and knowledge
of 1-2-3 operations is protected and extended.
GROWTH ENABLEMENT
Use of the spreadsheet macro programming language supports
application development by broadening the number of application
developers. The menu and macro language compatibility of Lotus
1-2-3/M expands the number of potential application developers in the
user community. Application backlogs may be reduced since users can
create and test macro-driven solutions on personal computers before
moving them to 1-2-3/M.
SYSTEM MANAGEMENT
Lotus 1-2-3/M's menu-driven access to corporate data will reduce the
requirement for separate data extraction procedures followed by
downloading to the personal computer for analysis. Formal mainframe
data backup procedures and access security protection will safeguard
company-sensitive data in a manner unavailable to the personal
computer versions of 1-2-3.
NATIONAL LANGUAGE SUPPORT
English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese are available
on a single product tape. There is no additional charge for
languages, which are user- selectable. Worksheets may be exchanged
between all supported languages. A 1-2-3/M system may concurrently
be used in several languages by different users. Code page, country,
and language selections are made at the time the user signs on to a
1-2-3/M session. The country selection defines the defaults for sort
sequence, currency symbol, date and time format, and thousands and
decimal separators. The language selection specifies the language to
be used for menus, long prompts, error messages, and help screens.
An installation can combine language and country selections as
necessary for a single user. A mixed language selection allows
menus, short prompts, and formulas to remain in US English while long
prompts, help text, and messages are displayed in the selected
language. This option preserves the customer investment in
spreadsheet macro programming by maintaining compatibility with other
Lotus products in a common language.
The Japanese implementation is 1-2-3/M combined with the
unique functionality of the Japanese personal computer product,
1-2-3/3J.

COMPATIBILITY: Lotus 1-2-3/M is the IBM System/370 version of Lotus
Development Corporation's Lotus 1-2-3 Release 3. Files in each
program are kept in the same record format, allowing the personal
computer and mainframe programs to work with the same spreadsheets
without translation. Lotus 1-2-3/M supports the Lotus 1-2-3 Release
3 features, including reading and writing files, executing macros,
calculating formulas, drawing graphs, and printing. It should be
noted, however, that Lotus 1-2-3/M does not provide support for the
1-2-3 personal computer add-in applications.
Due to hardware and operating system limitations, the Lotus
1-2-3/M interface differs from the personal computer version of Lotus
1-2-3 Release 3 in the following ways:
o Commands can be entered and edited in a special command field in
the control panel.
o Data or formulas can be entered or edited directly in a visible
cell as well as in the familiar control panel.
o Macros are invoked by entering the name of the macro and then
pressing the MACRO PF key.
o GDDM is used to display, modify, print, or save Lotus 1-2-3/M
graphs.
o The current cell pointer is indicated by a pointer character and
highlighting when reverse video is not available on a mainframe
terminal.
o Cell pointing is done with PF keys as well as the cursor movement
keys.
PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS: Lotus 1-2-3/M performance will vary
according to the particular hardware and software installed, the
number of concurrent users, and the frequency and use of different
spreadsheet functions. To obtain satisfactory performance,
consideration must be given to the type of usage, as well as system
resources available, in terms of processor power, real and virtual
storage, and input/output services.

PRIMARY LICENSE/ANNUAL LICENSE CHARGE: Customers who pay a primary
license and an annual license charge for a licensed program receive
enhancements and future releases, if any, at no additional charge.
Significant new functions may be offered as an optional feature and
charged for separately. If a new version is announced and the
customer elects to license the new version for a one-time or primary
license/annual license charge and replace the prior version, an
upgrade charge may apply.
The first payment consists of the primary license charge and
the annual license charge. The annual license charge applies yearly
thereafter.
VARIABLE CHARGES: The applicable graduated primary license/annual
license charge or graduated monthly license charge will be based on
the group of the designated machine on which the licensed program is
licensed for use.
For upgrades of primary license/annual license charge licenses
to a machine in a higher group, the upgrade charge will be the
difference in the current charges between the two groups. Annual
license charges will be prorated. For downgrades of primary
license/annual license charge licenses to a machine in a lower group,
there will be no adjustment or refund of primary license charges
paid. Annual license charges will be prorated.
For upgrades or downgrades of monthly license charge licenses,
the monthly license charge applicable to the higher or lower group
will apply.
