Overview

Top rule

While cloud computing has become the standard use model for IT services, the IT infrastructure continues to be the foundation for every IT service. Realizing the benefits of cloud computing requires easy provisioning and management of the underlying IT infrastructure.

Cloud Infrastructure Center 1.1.2 is an advanced infrastructure as a service (IaaS) management offering, including on-premises cloud deployments of z/VM and open source KVM-based Linux virtual machines on the IBM Z® and IBM LinuxONE platforms. It is part of IBM's hybrid and multicloud solution portfolio for IBM Z and LinuxONE.

Cloud Infrastructure Center 1.1.2 provides a ready-to-use solution for a consistent, industry-standard user experience to define, instantiate, discover, and manage the lifecycle of virtual infrastructure and deployment of images (operating system and applications).

Cloud Infrastructure Center 1.1.2 offers the following benefits:

  • Improves administrator productivity and simplifies the lifecycle management of Linux virtual machines and related resource bindings on IBM Z and LinuxONE servers
  • Uses open standards and can be valuable for most industries
  • Delivers the foundation for IBM Z and LinuxONE servers providing scalable IaaS cloud management, including the integration to higher-level cloud automation tools

Cloud Infrastructure Center 1.1.2 is built to require little or no training by users who manage virtual infrastructure, which can help accelerate workload deployments on IBM Z and LinuxONE servers. It provides the same usage and skill requirements as similar IaaS offerings on other platforms.

Description

Top rule

Cloud Infrastructure Center 1.1.2 enables the integration to higher-level cloud automation tools, such as IBM Cloud Automation Manager or VMware® vRealize Automation and VMware vRealize Orchestrator. With its built-in Red Hat OpenStack-compatible RESTful APIs, Cloud Infrastructure Center 1.1.2 is based on the de facto industry standard for vendor-agnostic IaaS management.

Cloud Automation Manager integrates with Cloud Infrastructure Center 1.1.2 with Terraform or Red Hat CloudForms®. Terraform can call the Cloud Infrastructure Center APIs with Terraform's Red Hat OpenStack provider. Red Hat CloudForms also can consume Cloud Infrastructure Center using its matching Red Hat OpenStack provider. The same applies to Ansible®.

VMware vRealize Automation and VMware vRealize Orchestrator support Red Hat OpenStack APIs and are able to directly attach to Cloud Infrastructure Center 1.1.2 as an additional endpoint to orchestrate Linux for Z and LinuxONE virtual servers.

The integration capability increases flexibility and improves efficiency with a singular skill set (VMware, Terraform, Red Hat CloudForms, and Ansible), and simplifies virtual machine lifecycle management to provide a unified hybrid multicloud environment with a single pane of glass for IBM Z and LinuxONE servers.

Cloud Infrastructure Center 1.1.2 enables infrastructure administrators to capture and manage a library of virtual machine images to quickly deploy a virtual machine environment by launching a stored image from the library, instead of manually recreating a virtual machine image. The centralized image management enables self-service users to rapidly deploy well-defined image-based services leading to repeatable and predictable results.

Cloud Infrastructure Center 1.1.2 delivers the following capabilities:

  • Designed for easy provisioning of virtual machine instances based on z/VM or RHEL-based KVM into an on-premises cloud using either a self-service portal that includes network and storage bindings or, optionally, image deployment or automated deployment using Terraform, CloudForms, or Ansible.
  • Fast provisioning of virtual infrastructure to be consumed by Red Hat OpenShift®
  • Infrastructure provisioning that can be confined by workflow-driven policies, such as approval flows, expiration dates, or resource quotas
  • Optional discovery and onboarding of preexisting virtual machines to be managed by Cloud Infrastructure Center 1.1.2
  • Support for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) to meet enterprise identity mapping requirements
  • Enablement of FCP (SCSI)-only virtual machines and their automated configuration of I/O and network resources
  • Image management that includes virtual machine image capture, catalog, and deployment
  • Multitenancy support
  • Designed for easy integration into higher-level cloud automation and orchestration tools
  • Federation of an on-premises cloud with other Red Hat OpenStack clouds using Red Hat OpenStack compatible APIs establishing a multiregion cloud
  • Provisioning of Red Hat, SUSE, and Canonical Linux distributions
  • Deployment of CoreOS as part of Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform for z/VM
  • Built to require no specific platform skills from the user and minimal platform skills from the administrator to accelerate cloud deployments

Accessibility by people with disabilities

Accessibility Compliance Reports (previously known as a VPAT) containing details on accessibility compliance to standards, including the Worldwide Consortium Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, European Standard EN 301 349, and US Section 508, can be found on the IBM Accessibility Conformance Report Request website.

Statement of good security practices

Top rule

IT system security involves protecting systems and information through intrusion prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a regulatory compliant, comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective.

Important: IBM does not warrant that any systems, products, or services are immune from, or will make your enterprise immune from, the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
