IBM® intends to deliver the following future enhancements to IBM API Connect™ and DataPower® Gateway in support of API workloads:

  • Freedom to deploy the solution on any cloud platform with scalable, performant design based on microservices and container architecture.
  • Provide technology to enable clients to create and run industry-focused marketplaces that include:
    • On-boarding marketplace participants
    • Collecting billing information
    • Securing API usage
    • Metering API usage
    • Providing monetization capabilities for transactions between marketplace participants
  • Ability to generate revenue from API products with an end-to-end monetization capability that includes the ability to:
    • Create pricing plans and set limits.
    • Configure billing documents and issue invoices.
    • Collect payments.
  • New API Gateway service, which is natively built on DataPower Gateways, that provides increased performance and robustness along with additional security, traffic management, and mediation policies for API Connect.
  • Complete isolation between API and non-API workload on DataPower Gateway physical appliances. API Connect tenants are isolated from non-API Connect tenants to provide flexible upgrades and runtime isolation for enhanced, operational resiliency.
  • Ability to rapidly create Swift microservices and expose them as APIs.
  • Ability to perform polyglot runtime management with your choice of container orchestration tools.
  • Ability to offload API analytics to third-party tools.
  • Ability for API Connect to create an application by using API definition from design to implementation.

IBM plans for IBM z™/OS Connect Enterprise Edition and IBM API Connect to deliver tighter integration with the ability to publish REST APIs directly into API Connect.
