IBM® i Monthly Licensing Offering for Service Providers is a new monthly licensing option for IBM i, V7.1 and later releases. Selected IBM i Licensed Program Products will also be eligible for monthly licensing. Service providers who choose to implement this monthly licensing option may see business benefits, specifically in the areas of:

  • Operating expense budget rather than capital expense
  • Short-term budgeting versus long-term budgeting
  • Short-term additional capacity needs

IBM DB2® Web Query for i, V2.1.1: IBM DB2 Web Query for i Express® Edition and Standard Edition, and IBM DB2 Web Query for i DataMigrator ETL Extension deliver new modification level version 2.1.1:

  • Official (base) modification level for offering the DataMigrator extension product
  • Simplify installs and upgrades

IBM i Monthly Licensing Offering for Service Providers offers IBM i V7.1 and later per-processor entitlement to service providers at a fixed monthly price.

  • IBM i unlimited user entitlement included in the per-processor monthly price for machines that require both IBM i processor and user entitlements
  • Selected IBM i Licensed Program Products (LPPs) at a fixed monthly price
  • Software Maintenance (SWMA), for both support and upgrade capability, included in the monthly price
  • Increasing, decreasing, and termination of IBM i and LPP monthly licensing capacity as needed

The monthly licensing options are available for IBM POWER7®, POWER7+™, and POWER8™ machines and can be ordered through the IBM Configurator for e-business (e-config).

IBM DB2 Web Query for i, V2.1.1

IBM DB2 Web Query for i Express Edition and Standard Edition, and IBM DB2 Web Query for i DataMigrator ETL Extension deliver new modification level version 2.1.1.

The new modification of Web Query provides:

  • An official (base) modification level for offering the DataMigrator extension product. The feature associated with it is now properly core based and easier to understand.
  • Repackages the Web Query product to simplify installs and upgrades.

IBM i Monthly Licensing Offering for Service Providers

This IBM i Monthly Licensing Offering is available to service providers. A service provider is a company that is hired by clients outside the company's enterprise to perform certain IT services, such as hosting workloads, on an ongoing basis, for an agreed-upon fee as specified in a service level agreement or other contract. Managed service providers and cloud service providers are also considered service providers.

IBM i Monthly Licensing is available for IBM i, V7.1 and later releases and can be ordered on POWER7, POWER7+, and POWER8 machines.

IBM i Monthly Licensing Offering for Service Providers

IBM i Monthly Licensing Offering for Service Providers (" IBM i Monthly Licensing") is available for the following program products:

  • IBM i V7.1 and later releases (5770-SS1 and 5770-MLI) includes:
    • IBM i per-processor entitlements
    • IBM i unlimited user entitlement, which is included with the per-processor monthly price for machines that require both processor and user entitlements
    • IBM i Media and Storage Extensions option

    Note: IBM i operating system separately charged features (other than Media and Storage Extensions) and 5250 Enterprise Enablement are not included in IBM i Monthly License and Support.
  • Selected IBM i Licensed Program Products (LPPs) ("Monthly LPPs"), including:
    • IBM i Access Family (5770-XW1 and 5770-MLX). The monthly licensing option includes IBM i Access Family unlimited users.
    • IBM Backup, Recovery, and Media Services for i (5770-BR1 and 5770-MLB). The monthly licensing option includes Network and Advanced features.

      The IBM i option for Media and Storage Extensions, a feature that can be used with Backup, Recovery, and Media Services, is automatically included with orders of IBM i Monthly Licensing (5770-MLI).

    • IBM Advanced Job Scheduler for i (5770-JS1 and 5770-MLJ).
    • IBM Performance Tools for i (5770-PT1 and 5770-MLP). The monthly licensing option includes Job Watcher, Manager, and Agent features.
    • IBM DB2 Query Manager and SQL Dev Kit for i (5770-ST1 and 5770-MLS).

The IBM i Monthly Licensing Offering for Service Providers includes IBM Software Subscription and Support (Software Maintenance).

Enrollment for IBM i Monthly Licensing is achieved through an e-config order and with the service provider signing the required agreements.

For both IBM i and the Monthly LPPs, there is a separate price available for processor group levels (P05, P10, P20, P30, and higher). There is a minimum commitment of three months, which is nonrefundable.

The service provider is issued temporary keys for the monthly licensing ordered for both IBM i operating system and Monthly LPPs. For machines that have a combination of IBM i per processor and user entitlement, a temporary key for unlimited user entitlement is provided. The temporary keys will be renewed while the service provider continues monthly licensing.

Permanent IBM i licensing and IBM i Monthly Licensing can coexist on a machine.

IBM i and LPP entitlements acquired under the IBM Attachment for Developer Discount cannot coexist on a machine with entitlements acquired with the IBM i Monthly Offering. Also IBM i Monthly Licensing cannot coexist on the same machine as IBM i Temporary Licensing (5733-ITL).

Entitlements acquired for IBM i Monthly Licensing are not transferrable from machine to machine within the service provider enterprise and cannot be transferred outside the service provider enterprise.

IBM DB2 Web Query for i (5733-WQE, 5733-WQS, 5733-WQM)

New modification level IBM DB2 Web Query for i, V2.1.1 (5733-WQE and 5733-WQS) is available beginning June 12, 2015, as is IBM DB2 Web Query for i DataMigrator ETL Extension, V2.1.1 (5733-WQM). Existing DB2 Web Query for i, V2.1.0 clients can upgrade to the version 2.1.1 modification level by ordering IBM DB2 Web Query for i with the new features announced in this letter. Processor core (or processor) is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. Processor core (or processor) is a functional unit within a computing device that interprets and executes instructions. A processor core consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic or logic unit. With multicore technology, each core is considered a processor core. Entitlements must be acquired for all activated processor cores available for use on the server.

  • Some programs may require licenses for the program and what is being managed. In that case, the following applies. In addition to the entitlements required for the program directly, licensee must obtain entitlements for this program sufficient to cover the processor cores managed by the program.

The information provided in this announcement letter is for reference and convenience purposes only. The terms and conditions that govern any transaction with IBM are contained in the applicable contract documents such as the IBM International Program License Agreement, IBM International Passport Advantage® Agreement, and the IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance.

Licensing

IBM International Program License Agreement including the License Information document and Proof of Entitlement (PoE) govern your use of the program. PoEs are required for all authorized use.

This software license includes Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance).

Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance

The IBM Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance (Z125-6011) applies for Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) and does not require customer signatures.

These programs are licensed under the IBM Program License Agreement (IPLA) and the associated Agreement for Acquisition of Software Maintenance, which provide for support with ongoing access to releases and versions of the program. IBM includes one year of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Subscription and Support (also referred to as Software Maintenance) can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available. These programs have a one-time license charge for use of the program and an annual renewable charge for the enhanced support that includes telephone assistance (voice support for defects during normal business hours), as well as access to updates, releases, and versions of the program as long as support is in effect.

Licensed machine code

IBM machine code is licensed for use by a customer on a specific machine, designated by serial number, under the terms and conditions of the IBM License Agreement for Machine Code, to enable a specific machine to function in accordance with its specifications, and only for the capacity authorized by IBM and acquired by the customer. Elliptical Curve Cryptography (ECC) technology is included with IBM i V7 (5770-SS1). This ECC technology is delivered through the machine code and requires license terms in addition to the standard IBM License Agreement for Machine Code (LMC) referenced above. These additional terms are delivered through the LMC's Addendum for Elliptical Curve Cryptography. IBM warrants that when the program is used in the specified operating environment, it will conform to its specifications. The warranty applies only to the unmodified portion of the program. IBM does not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation of the program or that IBM will correct all program defects. You are responsible for the results obtained from the use of the program.

IBM provides you with access to IBM databases containing information on known program defects, defect corrections, restrictions, and bypasses at no additional charge. For further information, consult the IBM Software Support Handbook found at

Extending coverage for a total of three years from date of acquisition may be elected.

While your Software Subscription and Support is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions, and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. Electronic Service Agent™ and the IBM Electronic Support web portal are dedicated to providing fast, exceptional support to IBM Systems customers. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tool is a no-additional-charge tool that proactively monitors and reports hardware events, such as system errors, performance issues, and inventory. The Electronic Service Agent tool can help you stay focused on your company's strategic business initiatives, save time, and spend less effort managing day-to-day IT maintenance issues. Servers enabled with this tool can be monitored remotely around the clock by IBM Support, all at no additional cost to you.

Now integrated into the base operating system of IBM i 7.1 and later, Electronic Service Agent is designed to automatically and electronically report system failures and utilization issues to IBM, which can result in faster problem resolution and increased availability. System configuration and inventory information collected by the Electronic Service Agent tool also can be viewed on the secure Electronic Support web portal, and used to improve problem determination and resolution by you and the IBM support team. To access the tool main menu, simply type smitty esa_main, and select Configure Electronic Service Agent. In addition, ESA now includes a powerful web user interface, giving the administrator easy access to status, tool settings, problem information, and filters. The IBM Electronic Support portal is a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used to access IBM Internet services and support. This portal enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems. The My Systems and Premium Search functions make it even easier for Electronic Service Agent tool-enabled customers to track system inventory and find pertinent fixes.

Increased uptime: The Electronic Service Agent™ tool is designed to enhance the Warranty or Maintenance Agreement by providing faster hardware error reporting and uploading system information to IBM Support. This can translate to less wasted time monitoring the symptoms, diagnosing the error, and manually calling IBM Support to open a problem record. Its 24x7 monitoring and reporting mean no more dependence on human intervention or off-hours customer personnel when errors are encountered in the middle of the night.

Security: The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to be secure in monitoring, reporting, and storing the data at IBM. The Electronic Service Agent tool is designed to securely transmit either via the Internet (HTTPS or VPN) or modem to provide customers a single point of exit from their site. Communication is one way. Activating Electronic Service Agent does not enable IBM to call into a customer's system.

More accurate reporting: Because system information and error logs are automatically uploaded to the IBM Support center in conjunction with the service request, you are not required to find and send system information, decreasing the risk of misreported or misdiagnosed errors. Once inside IBM, problem error data is run through a data knowledge management system and knowledge articles are appended to the problem record.

Customized support: Using the IBM ID entered during activation, you can view system and support information in the My Systems and Premium Search sections of the Electronic Support website at

My Systems provides valuable reports of installed hardware and software using information collected from the systems by Electronic Service Agent. Variable charges: The applicable processor-based one-time charge will be based on the group of the designated machine on which the program is licensed for use. If the program is designated to a processor in a group for which no charge is listed, the charge of the next higher group listed applies. For movement to a machine in a higher group, an upgrade charge equal to the difference in the then-current charges between the two groups will apply. For movement to a machine in a lower group, there will be no adjustment or refund of charges paid.
