Accessibility features
Accessibility features help a user who has a physical disability, such as restricted mobility or limited vision, to use software products successfully. Major accessibility features of the IBM Webcasts site include:
- You can use screen-reader software and a digital speech synthesizer to hear what is displayed on the screen. You can also use voice recognition software, such as IBM ViaVoice, to navigate the user interface.*
- You can operate all basic features using the keyboard instead of the mouse.*
- You can access an unsynchronized version of webcast events using the keyboard instead of a mouse.
- You can access an unsynchronized, frame-free version of webcast events without JavaScript or frame-enabled browsers.
- You can resize windows to accommodate increased font sizes (except when using Netscape 4.x; see the web browser requirements section for more information).
- Captions and/or transcripts of important audio content will be provided.
- Transcripts or audio descriptions of important video content will be provided.
- Adobe PDFs and/or text versions of slide presentations will be provided.
Note: If you are operating features with screen reader software or by keyboard only, you will be unable to access the audio/video player controls in the IBM Webcasts presentation window (see Accessing webcasts with a screen reader or by keyboard only for special instructions).
Accessing webcasts with a screen reader or by keyboard only
If you are operating features with screen reader software or by keyboard only (without the use of a mouse), you will be unable to access the audio/video player controls in the IBM Webcasts presentation window.* You will however, be able to access an unsynchronized version of the webcast event. Specific instructions are provided below:
How to access a webcast with screen reader software
- From the Webcast event page, select your preferred audio/video format (i.e., "Play w/ Real" or "Play w/ WMP").
- From the first frame in the IBM Webcasts presentation window, select "Launch the webcast in a standalone player that can be accessed by a screen reader. It is recommended that you close this window after launching the standalone player.".
- Close the IBM Webcasts presentation window.
- If you wish to access the content of a slide presentation, a link to a slides PDF and/or slides text file will be available on the Webcast event page.
How to access a webcast with the keyboard only
- From the Webcast event page, select a "Play w/ WMP" audio/video format (as keyboard access issues exist with some embedded versions of RealPlayer).
- From the IBM Webcasts presentation window, select "launch a standalone player".
- Close the IBM Webcasts presentation window.
- If you wish to view slides in conjunction with audio/video, select "Play slide show only" from the Webcast event page. Then, you may manually pause and switch between the interactive slides and the audio/video in the standalone player.
* The IBM Webcasts presentation window was developed for audiences who wish to view a rich media environment that synchronizes slides with streaming media (audio/video).
Keyboard shortcuts
You can use keys or key combinations to perform operations that can also be done through mouse actions. Many menu actions can be initiated from the keyboard. In those cases, the keyboard equivalent appears to the right of the menu item or the shortcut letter is underlined. There are no IBM Webcast site-specific keyboard shortcuts.
