What is technical document entitlement?

Technical documents marked with this symbol,,are available to entitled customers — that is, to customers who have purchased an applicable IBM support agreement or who are members of authorized technical support or business partner programs. IBM employees and others who have an employment relationship with IBM are also considered to be entitled.

How do I become entitled?

1) You must have an IBM ID and password. This allows us to identify you and validate any entitlements you may have. You may already have an IBM ID and password as many IBM web sites use the IBM ID and password to identify their customers. If you do not have an IBM ID and password you can register for one whenever you are asked to sign in.

Many technical document entitlement programs use your IBM ID and password to identify you, so we won't need to ask you for any additional information. Some examples of those programs include IBM PartnerWorld memberships and support programs for IBM eServerand Total Storage products.

If signing on with your IBM ID is not enough...

2) You may have to supply additional entitlement credentials. Other technical document entitlement programs use additional credentials to identify you. For example, IBM Passport Advantage customers receive an IBM customer number that identifies their support contract (entitlement), and IBM employees use their intranet ID and password to gain entitlement.

You use the Get access page to update the association between your IBM ID and any additional entitlement credentials. Access to one technical document does not necessarily guarantee access to all documents. The Get access page will help guide you as it shows you only the entitlement programs that can grant access to the resource you have requested and provides helpful links.

What entitlement programs for technical documents are currently supported?

While there are many entitlement programs within IBM, they all do not provide access to entitled technical support documents.

As of March 1, 2004, we accept entitlements from the following IBM support programs and business units:

  • IBM Passport Advantage: provides technical support for IBM-distributed software products, including Lotus, Rational and Tivoli software.

  • IBM PartnerWorld: entitlement is available to members who have purchased a Value Option for Developers or a Value Package for Software.

  • IBM eServer (iSeries, pSeries, xSeries and Total Storage): entitlement is available under several different support programs.

  • Legacy Tivoli software support: for customers whose Tivoli support has not yet migrated to IBM Passport Advantage.

  • IBM Employees and others who have an employment relationship with IBM.
