This IBM® Redbooks® publication is a comprehensive service-oriented architecture (SOA) offering that is designed to extend the IBM Business Process Management platform to deliver flexible composite business applications. In these Redbooks publications, we provide a complete overview of the chemical and petroleum industry and solutions provided through C&P IIF that can help overcome the business challenges through value identification. This Redbooks publication is the second of two books and covers the information technology and system architecture, installation guide, and step-by-step scenarios that describe how to model, assemble, deploy, and manage a composite business application. This book is for an audience that include solutions and technical architects, IT service providers who seek faster and quality implementations, maintenance, and upgrades of enterprise solutions. The first book covers the business and functional architecture of the chemical and petroleum industry. In particular, this book provides a market segmentation of the petroleum industry and how IBM C&P IIF can lead to better productivity and profitability. This book is for an audience that include chemical and petroleum industry professionals, business and functional architects who are looking for ways of improving efficiencies and operating margins. IBM C&P IIF provides a strategic advantage to the chemicals and petroleum industry by reducing costs and increasing revenues.

In many organizations, relational databases are the backbone for data storage and retrieval. Over the last couple of years, XML has become the de facto standard to exchange information between organizations, as well as between departments or applications within the same organization. Since data tends to live in databases, it needs to be converted from a relational format into an XML format when involved in those data exchanges, as well as converted (back) from XML into a relational format for storage, or for handling by other applications. How can we achieve this? This IBM Redbook describes how to design the mapping between XML and relational data, and vice versa, to enable a flexible exchange of information. IBM provides a number of products to help you bridge the gap between XML and its relational database, DB2. The DB2 engine itself provides support to generate XML fragments from relational data through the use of SQL/XML built-in functions. DB2 also provides the DB2 XML Extender. It allows you to perform XML composition, like SQL/XML, but also provides functionality to decompose XML documents and store XML documents intact inside the database. XML Extender also provides a set of transformation and validation functions. Another option to work with XML is to use the XML wrapper, a part of the set of non-relational wrappers of DB2 Information Integrator. This redbook also looks at the IBM tools available to assist you when dealing with XML, specifically WebSphere Application Developer and DB2 Control Center. T

Federation and integration are open technologies, which extend your investment on existing data and relational or non relational data by bringing it all together in a single virtual location for on demand application access. IBM DB2 Information Integrator V8.1 is the framework supporting federated data solutions. This IBM Redbook provides implementation guidelines for deploying a federated access solution with IBM DB2 Information Integrator V8.1. Topics include configuring, tuning, and debugging a federated system; use of federation in a business intelligence-like environment with read access to relational (DB2 family, Oracle, SQL Server) and non relational sources (flat files, XML, ODBC), and usage through queries or reporting tools. This redbook will help you create a federated data solution with a case study, which accesses several data sources across the AIX , Windows , and z/OS platforms.

IBM DB2 Replication (called DataPropagator on some platforms) is a powerful, flexible facility for copying DB2 and/or Informix data from one place to another. The IBM replication solution includes transformation, joining, and the filtering of data. You can move data between different platforms. You can distribute data to many different places or consolidate data in one place from many different places. You can exchange data between systems. The objective of this IBM Redbook is to provide you with detailed information that you can use to install, configure, and implement replication among the IBM database family - DB2 and Informix. The Appendix C provides information about configuring federated access to Informix, which can be used as a model for federated access to other non-DB2 database, such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sybase, and more, using DB2 Information Integrator V8. The redbook is organized so that each chapter builds upon information from the previous chapter.
