Based on the IBM e-BI architectural framework, this IBM Redbook explains the building blocks required to connect front-end e-BI user tools to the OS/390 data warehouse or data mart. It also shows the Web integration in the architecture and the accessibility of the data warehouse from browser-based clients in an e-business environment. The book provides: An overview of e-BI user connectivity and architectural framework on OS/390, as well as guidance on choosing the appropriate e-BI front-end user tool or e-BI user application, based on end-user profiles. Connectivity methodologies, contrasting Web-based middleware with traditional client/server middleware in 2-tier or N-tier solutions connecting users to the OS/390 data warehouse or data mart. The steps needed to implement front-end e-BI user tools accessing the OS/390 data warehouse and OLAP data mart. We highlight the stumbling blocks and show the implementation steps for: QMF for Windows Brio DB2 OLAP Server Analyzer

The Viewer, first introduced with the Tivoli Performance Reporter for OS/390 in Version 1 Release 4 and enhanced with Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390, is a Java-based graphical interface for reporting collected performance data. Using the Viewer, you can easily and intuitively perform reporting activities from a variety of workstation platforms connected to your OS/390 DB2 Universal Database. This IBM redbook contains detailed information about setting up the environment to support the Viewer along with directions for installing and configuring the Viewer on a variety of workstation platforms including Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, OS/2, Linux (not officially supported), and AIX. Examples show you how to create, modify, and execute reports using the Viewer in an enterprise environment. This book is a must for customers, consultants, business partners, and Tivoli and IBM professionals wanting to deploy and utilize the Viewer in their organization. The included CD-ROM provides a sample component that you can install on your Tivoli Decision Support for OS/390 system to perform the actions described in this book in your own reporting environment.

Database management system implementations within a single company are no longer restricted to a single data source that is easy to administer and easy to access from a single front end application. Today, the typical database infrastructure has become very diverse, with relational database management systems from various vendors, and may also be installed on different operating systems. In addition, these RDBMSs are not the only data sources; a considerable amount of data can also be stored in hierarchical databases such as Information Management System (IMS) and Virtual Storage Access Method (VSAM). Administering and accessing these diverse data sources can easily become a nightmare for people who need to work with them. Each database management system may provide a different user interface, and this fact alone makes end users and companies unhappy, because they must either learn different user interfaces or must invest extensively in education. In this redbook we describe how to set up an Enterprise Query Environment, where users can access different database management systems using the same front end application. Also, they can share the queries they created with other users, by either storing the queries at the appropriate database server or in a LAN accessible file. The database administrator will have the opportunity to restrict the resources available to each user, or user groups, thereby balancing the expected workload. This redbook will help you design and implement a solution to build an Enterprise
