Due to the common-component updates first shipped with the August 2007 PTFs, the non-default installation tool (NDI script) from previous PTFs must be updated before installing the August 2007, as well as future, PTFs to a non-default location. In general, the NDI tool version and the version of the compiler PTF to be installed should match. For example, NDI tool from PTF 1 should not be used to install PTF 2, and vice versa.

With each compiler PTF, there can be changes to how the Non-Default Installation (NDI) tool behaves. In general, the NDI tool version and the version of the compiler PTF to be installed should match. For example, NDI tool from PTF 1 should not be used to install PTF 2, and vice versa. Specifically, when a problem related to the NDI tool is fixed in a PTF, the NDI tool must be updated from the PTF fileset before using it to apply the actual compiler PTF to a non-default location.
