Adapter Features and Purpose

The IBM Security Privileged Identity Manager (ISPIM) Adapter is designed to create and manage accounts, roles, groups and admin domains on IBM Security Privileged Identity Manager systems. The adapter runs as a Java shared library JAR file in the IBM Security Identity Manager and communicates using REST API to the systems being managed.

This adapter is installed as part of the  IBM Security Identity Manager virtual appliance.  This adapter package contains an updated adapter profile and release notes only.  The connector jar is not included in this package.

IBM Security Identity Manager adapters are powerful tools that require administrator level authority. Adapters operate much like a human system administrator, creating and modifying accounts and other objects. Operations requested from IBM Security Identity Manager server will fail if the adapter is not given sufficient authority to perform the requested task. IBM recommends that this adapter run with administrative permissions.

Known Issues

 Internal#

APAR#

PMR# / Description

RTC 116556

Some widgets on the service group forms (roles, groups and admin domains) display the source attribute of the object rather than the display-friendly attribute that it is mapped to.  This is an issue with the IBM Security Identity Manager UI.

Some versions of IBM Security Identity Manager cannot render a form field in read-only mode when creating a managed object. The following fields are meant to be read-only at all times and should not be modified when creating or modifying an object:

Role (Known as accesses in ISPIM 2.0.1 and later)

·         Role classification

·         Approval workflow on the managed resource

·         Role identifier

Group

·         Group identifier

Admin Domain

·         Admin domain identifier

Known Limitations

Internal#

APAR#

PMR# / Description

The adapter has been tested only in an environment where IBM Security Identity Manager is configured to a DB2 database. This release of the adapter does not support Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server databases.

Limitations when managing roles (known as "accesses" from PIM 2.0.1):

·         Only static roles are supported

·         Role hierarchies are not supported

·         Role classifications cannot be specified when creating or modifying a role

When account add or account modify operations return a WARNING status, the attributes that failed to be set are not shown in the warning message or in the log file. You must view the account in the console to see which attributes were successfully set.

Bugz 1868

82993,004,000

Due to restrictions in the PIM REST APIs, only the PIM Account password is changed during PIM Adapter changePassword requests. The Adapter does not change any synchronized passwords (like ESSO Account) on the PIM server. This issue of Password Synchronization has been fixed by PIM APAR #IV77765.

RTC 135660

Roles have been renamed to Accesses in group management from ISPIM VA 2.0.1 and above. In case a lower version of VA is being used, the profile jar needs to be unpacked and the CustomLabels.properties file needs to be replaced from 7.0.2 release profile jar, and the jar needs to be repacked and imported.

Customizing or Extending Adapter Features

IBM Security Identity Manager adapters can be customized and/or extended. The type and method of this customization may vary from adapter to adapter.

Getting Started

Customizing and extending adapters requires a number of additional skills. The developer must be familiar with the following concepts and skills prior to beginning the modifications:

·         IBM Security Identity Manager administration

·         IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator management

·         IBM Tivoli Directory Integrator Assembly Line development

·         LDAP schema management

·         Working knowledge of Java scripting language

·         Working knowledge of LDAP object classes and attributes

·         Working knowledge of XML document structure

Note: If the customization requires a new Tivoli Directory Integrator connector, the developer must also be familiar with Tivoli Directory Integrator connector development and working knowledge of Java programming language.

Tivoli Directory Integrator Resources:

IBM Security Identity Manager Adapter Development:

Adapter Development Tool

The Adapter Development Tool, ADT, is a tool used by IBM Security Identity Manager customers and consultants to create custom IBM Security Identity Manager adapters. It reduces adapter delivery time by about 50% and it helps in the development of custom adapters. The Adapter development tool is available on the IBM Open Process Automation Library (OPAL).

Support for Customized Adapters

The integration to the Identity Manager server – the adapter framework – is supported. However, IBM does not support the customizations, scripts, or other modifications. If you experience a problem with a customized adapter, IBM Support may require the problem to be demonstrated on the GA version of the adapter before a PMR is opened.
