Distributing software using central site distribution

The central site distribution process for distributing software is especially useful and convenient when your network is large and you want all the IBM® i systems or logical partitions in your computing environment to be identical.

The central site process for distributing software saves you time, effort, and expense by reducing the number of steps in the installation procedures for the target systems. For example, if you apply a cumulative PTF package on your source system before you distribute your software, you save time because you do not need to apply the same package on your target systems.

If you plan to distribute the user data and the IBM i release to only one system, go to the Data migrations topic.

You can also distribute one or more licensed programs using Tape, CD-ROM, DVD, Virtual media, and Removable Mass Storage (RMS) devices. For more information on these devices, refer to Storage solutions Link to Information Center in the IBM i Information Center.
