Release-to-release support

The release-to-release support on the System i® environments allows you to move data from the current release to a previous-release system. This support also allows you to move data from a previous-release system to a current-release system.

Releases of licensed programs on the System i environments have a three-part name that consists of a version, a release, and a modification. For example, the current version is version 7, release 1, modification 0. The short form of the current release name is i 7.1.
