Data migration concepts

IBM® i data migration is the movement of data from one system or logical partition to a new system or logical partition. When migrating data between systems, the source system and the target system have different serial numbers.

The data migration process includes planning, ordering, preparing for, and performing the data migration. Planning may require up to 6 weeks, depending on the complexity of your environment. Installing IBM i on the source system requires at least one hour. Migrating the data from the source system to the target system (sometimes referred to as the managed system) can normally be accomplished in up to 3 days.
