Deploying on Active Directory using Group Policy
Active Directory supports distributing MSI-based applications to remote computers using the Group Policy Software Installation feature. You can create a package for a group of users or computers and then distribute the package to the group members.
Use the following information to help deploy IBM® i Access for Windows through Active Directory:
- Windows Installer version 4.5, or later must be installed on client computers before deploying.
- IBM i Access for Windows supports assigning only to computers. Publishing and assigning to users is not supported.
- If you want to set public properties, you must create transforms to modify the Property table. Group Policy does not use setup.ini or command-line parameters.
- Copy the full image of IBM i Access for Windows to the shared folder. Make sure that at least one MRI directory is copied into the distribution point.
- Deploy only cwbinstall.msi. Do not deploy cwbinmri.msi or cwbnethlp.msi. Cwbinstall.msi sets up the correct properties and starts the other MSI files.
- You cannot install System i® Navigator plug-ins using this deployment method.
Refer to Microsoft documentation for information about using this deployment method.
