Step 7: Starting TCP/IP

You must start TCP/IP to make TCP/IP services ready to use.

To start TCP/IP, follow these steps.

  1. On the command line, type STRTCP (Start TCP/IP command) and press F4 (Prompt) to access the Start TCP/IP menu.
  2. Specify *YES for the additional devices that you want to start optionally; otherwise, specify *NO.
  3. Press Enter to start TCP/IP.

The Start TCP/IP (STRTCP) command initializes and activates TCP/IP processing, starts the TCP/IP interfaces, and starts the server jobs. Only TCP/IP interfaces and servers with AUTOSTART *YES are started with the STRTCP command.

You can use either System i® Navigator or the character-based interface to change the configuration when you need to change the networking settings.
