Working with files and folders using IBM Navigator
You can perform these tasks with files and folders.
- Creating a folder
To create a folder, follow these steps. - Removing a file or folder
To remove a file or folder, follow these steps: - Moving files or folders to another file system
Each file system has its own unique characteristics. However, moving objects to a different file system might mean losing the advantages of the file system in which the objects are currently stored. You might want to move objects from one file system to another to take advantage of those characteristics. - Setting permissions
Adding permissions to an object allows you to control the ability of others to manipulate that object. With permissions, you can allow some users to only view objects, while allowing others to actually edit the objects. - Setting up file text conversion
You can set up automatic text file conversion in System i® Navigator. Automatic text file conversion allows you to use file extensions for file data conversion. - Sending a file or folder to another system
To send a file or folder to another system, follow these steps. - Changing options for sending a file or folder
You can define whether to include subfolders and whether to replace an existing file when the system sends a file or folder to another system. You can also schedule a time for the system to send the file or folder. To change the options for sending a file, follow these steps. - Creating a file share
A file share is a directory path that IBM i NetServer shares with PC clients on the System i network. A file share can consist of any integrated file system directory on the System i platform. - Changing a file share
A file share is a directory path that IBM i NetServer shares with PC clients on the System i network. A file share can consist of any integrated file system directory on the System i platform. - Removing a file share
A file share is a directory path that IBM i NetServer shares with PC clients on the System i network. A file share can consist of any integrated file system directory on the System i platform. You can stop sharing an existing file share by using the System i Navigator. - Creating a new user-defined file system
A user-defined file system (UDFS) is a file system that you create and define the attributes for. UDFSs reside in auxiliary storage pools (ASPs) and independent ASPs on the system. - Mounting a user-defined file system
To access or view the data stored in a UDFS, you must mount the UDFS after every IPL. - Unmounting a user-defined file system
When you mount a UDFS, it covers up any file systems, directories, or objects that exist beneath the mount point in the folder hierarchy. This makes those file systems, directories, or objects inaccessible until you unmount the UDFS. - Working with dynamically mounted file systems
You can use the Dynamic Mount Information function to see which dynamically mounted file systems are currently mounted, display their properties, and unmount any of them. - Setting whether objects should be scanned or not
You can specify whether objects should be scanned or not in the "root" (/), QOpenSys and user-defined file systems. Follow these steps to set the scanning options. - Checking in objects
You can check in a file or all eligible objects within a folder by using the Check In option on the pop-up menu or the Properties page. - Checking out objects
You can check out a file or all eligible objects within a folder by using the Check Out option on the pop-up menu or the Properties page. - Downloading a file or folder
You can download a file or folder from and IBM i system to a local PC. - Uploading a file
You can upload a file from a local PC to an IBM i system.
