You can collect and analyze attributes for
objects in the integrated file system with Navigator for i. This easy-to-use
interface provides the same function as the Retrieve Directory
Information (RTVDIRINF) command does. You can examine and
query data collected by this interface as well as that collected by
the RTVDIRINF command.
Note: This method is available in Navigator for i V6R1, or
later.
To generate a report for the attributes of certain
objects in the integrated file system, follow these steps:
- In Navigator for i, expand .
- Click the arrowhead next to the folder containing
the objects of interest, and select .
- In the Collect Attributes window, specify
your preferences. Select Include the contents of subfolders
contained in this folder if you want to collect the attributes
of subfolders as well. Optionally, you can specify the File
prefix and Library. Click OK to
start collecting object attributes.
This data collection
process might take a while. You need to wait a few seconds before
the Display Collected Attributes windows is displayed.
- In the Display Collected Attributes window,
clicking the arrowhead next to the entry you want to analyze and select Analyze
information.
Note: If you have performed the
Collect Attributes operation from System i® Navigator or run the Retrieve
Directory Information (RTVDIRINF) command before, you can
enter Display Collected Attributes directly by clicking the arrowhead
next to the folder and selecting .
- In the Analyze Folder Information window, customize the
attributes you want to view on the Columns, Filter,
and Order tabs. Then click OK to
generate the Folder Attribute Information Report.
Here is an example. Suppose you want to display the
files that are larger than 10 MB in size and their owners, with the
results sorted first by size and then by owner.
- On the Columns tab, select Owner and
click Add. Select Parent folder path and
click Add. Select Object name and
click Add. Select Allocated size and
click Add.
- On the Filter tab, select Allocated
size in Field, select Sizes
greater than in Condition, type 10
in Size, and select Megabytes in Unit.
Click Add to create the filter.
- On the Order tab, select Allocated
size and Descending for First
sort, and select Owner and Descending for Second
sort.
- Click OK. Then the Folder Attribute Information
Report displays the tailored information.
- In the Folder Attribute Information Report
Window, you could select the delete action to remove Integrated File
System objects listed in the report without leaving the report window.
