Collecting and analyzing folder attributes with Navigator for i

This easy-to-use interface provides the same function as the Retrieve Directory Information (RTVDIRINF) command does. You can examine and query data collected by this interface as well as that collected by the RTVDIRINF command.End of change

To generate a report for the attributes of certain objects in the integrated file system, follow these steps:

  1. Start of changeIn Navigator for i, expand My Connections > your system > File Systems > Integrated File System.End of change
  2. Start of changeClick the arrowhead next to the folder containing the objects of interest, and select Folder Attribute Information > Collect Attributes.End of change
  3. In the Collect Attributes window, specify your preferences. Select Include the contents of subfolders contained in this folder if you want to collect the attributes of subfolders as well. Optionally, you can specify the File prefix and Library. Click OK to start collecting object attributes.

    This data collection process might take a while. You need to wait a few seconds before the Display Collected Attributes windows is displayed.

  4. Start of changeIn the Display Collected Attributes window, clicking the arrowhead next to the entry you want to analyze and select Analyze information.
    Note: If you have performed the Collect Attributes operation from System i® Navigator or run the Retrieve Directory Information (RTVDIRINF) command before, you can enter Display Collected Attributes directly by clicking the arrowhead next to the folder and selecting Folder Attribute Information > Display Collect Attributes.

  5. In the Analyze Folder Information window, customize the attributes you want to view on the Columns, Filter, and Order tabs. Then click OK to generate the Folder Attribute Information Report.
    Here is an example. Suppose you want to display the files that are larger than 10 MB in size and their owners, with the results sorted first by size and then by owner.
    • On the Columns tab, select Owner and click Add. Select Parent folder path and click Add. Select Object name and click Add. Select Allocated size and click Add.
    • On the Filter tab, select Allocated size in Field, select Sizes greater than in Condition, type 10 in Size, and select Megabytes in Unit. Click Add to create the filter.
    • On the Order tab, select Allocated size and Descending for First sort, and select Owner and Descending for Second sort.
    • Click OK. Then the Folder Attribute Information Report displays the tailored information.
  6. Start of changeIn the Folder Attribute Information Report Window, you could select the delete action to remove Integrated File System objects listed in the report without leaving the report window.End of change
