Exceptions stage

The Exceptions stage is used to specify and gather information about exceptions that are generated by other stages in an InfoSphere® DataStage® and QualityStage® job. Exception sets and data are stored in an exceptions database and can be retrieved and viewed in the Data Quality Exception Console.

Unlike many stages in parallel jobs, most of the properties that you specify when you configure the Exceptions stage do not determine how the stage processes data. Instead, the information that you specify is added to the exception set. When you run jobs that contain the Exceptions stage, the exception sets and exception data are sent to an exceptions database. By default, all exception sets that are generated by the Exceptions stage are displayed in the Data Quality Exception Console.

The only properties that you are required to enter in the stage editor are a description and exception categories. For example, you do not have to specify rule sets that are associated with exceptions. However, if you add such information you can use that information later. The information can help you refine classification of a set of exceptions and assign them to the appropriate reviewer. Or, you can use the information to review and resolve exceptions.

The Exceptions stage does not use links for output. The Exceptions stage writes directly to the exceptions database.
