Data partitions

Create partitions if you want to send data to users of a different Rational® DOORS® database to be viewed or edited and then returned to you. If you include data that will be edited by the users in the other database, the data is locked in your database until it is returned and rejoined, or recovered.

You use three different files to partition, synchronize, and return data. They all have the .par file extension.

Note: You can only send data to a Rational DOORS database that has the same major version number. For example, you can send data from a version 9.6 database to a version 9.2.0.1 database but not to a version 8.3. database.

Note: If the original module contains sections that are configured for shareable edit mode, the access rights and shareable editing for those sections are not retained when the partition is imported in the second database. User access rights are specific to each database. You cannot configure sections in the partition for shareable editing in the new database, because users in that database do not have administrative rights to the data in the imported partition.

File	Description
Partition file	Used to send data that has been included in a partition definition to a different Rational DOORS database so that it can be viewed or edited.
Synch file	Used to send updates that have been made to editable data back to the originating database.
Return file	Used to transfer the final updates back to the originating database. Any read-only locks at the originating database are removed.
